Hey wonderful humans,
I'm currently doing a PhD in English Literature at the University of Birmingham, so most of my channel revolves around that! Always happy to offer advice on doing a PhD and hopefully my videos will demystify the process.
Sometimes have a smattering of travel videos and also LGBT+ stuff (but it's mainly PhD)

Hi dear, I am from India, I was looking for some phd scholar's video and I got your vedios, firstly I dint get everything but I really like and want some suggestions and some guidance if you can provide me
This is all great advice, thank you for sharing. A lot of your tips were actually super helpful for my interview - especially the advice about rereading your proposal. I applied back in Jan, and was interviewed 6 months later, so in that time I had done a lot of reading and my ideas had developed a lot further.
Hi may I know which room is closest to kitchen? Is it number 4?
Hey Luci..Plzz !! can you tell me admission process of plant science PhD in UoB without contacting any professor and i don't have any research experience. I am from India and done my masters in plant science as well.
Thanks so much, hope my first meeting in next week just like you so succesfully
I really appreciate this video. Thank you!
Thanks
Timely advice for me. Thank you.
This was quite helpful. Thanks. ❤ I wish you could deep dive into this in another video. Maybe show us some examples?
The most important phase a humanities PhD needs to know is "would you like fries with that" !
I am watching this 3yrs later. Hope you got done with it❤
thanks ya...for your sharing
Hi lucy, Thanks a lot for your video. I had my phd interview today. It went really well but i am so concerned about the supervisor. I feel i didn't get a good vibe. He didn't respond to any of my emails before the interview. During the interview, I was answering a question and i said do you want me to elaborate? He said, yes that's the whole point of the question. Also at the end when i asked about his supervising style, he said he grows with his students, he doesn't know everything. The topic i applied for hadn't been done by him before. I am so anxious 😢
Hy, hope you are well. Just wanted to know with about how you get access to papers/books that needs to be paid. Are there sites where i can have free access. Do you know any of them. It would be much helpful. :)
please make a video in which discuss the procedure to take admission in phd in english
Thank you for sharing your personal experience, I found it very insightful and inspiring. I am currently doing my dissertation on experiences of navigating HE for students with dyslexia! To break down the negative stereotypes that are commonly associated with dyslexia we need more people like you who have the confidence to talk about your personal experiance in a transparent and coherent way. Very good job!!
I think, therefore I am.
I am also looking forward to do PHD there
I think this may be your best video yet, absolutely brief and amazing!
Thank you for this! I'm finishing my LLB this month and have been hired as a research assistant for my lecturer's socio-legal LLD. I'm super excited but daunted because I've obviously never done such a volume of research before. This video has really helped me visualise the processes that will help. Thank you! 💗
Hi Lucy! Thank you for this video. Do they offer fellowships/scholarahips
Super helpful, Lucy! I found it especially valuable how you mentioned that there'll be heaps of info I find interesting but which I don't need to take notes on (especially if I have a million other things to read) because its not relevant to my thesis.
Omg! So hard to stand up to a supervisor and advocate for my need to balance paid work with the PhD. Definitely something I need to practice.
Super helpful video. I have a stipend, but it doesn't even cover my living expenses - and that's saying something since I live in social housing. It's nice to know I'm not alone having to juggle paid work with PhD stuff.
Easily the most helpful video on KZread about a humanities PhD. There's heaps about the sciences which have some helpful takeaways, but your channel has been a lifeline. It's so motivating to know that someone else know's what my PhD is like. Thanks for adding value, Lucy!❤
Thanks for that , i really need this kind of motivation cauz I’m exactly at the deepest point of my motivation
I really appreciate this video, this is the first video i found that gave me the advice that i needed
This is very helpful - thanks
Im moving to Jarrat Hall in 2 weeks. I just wanted to know can we smoke in the room? Or anywhere outside?
Commenting for the algorithm, thank you for posting!
Thanks for sharing! Im planning to set my very first meeting next month. Do you think I should invite both (first and second) SPVs altogether or do it seperately? thanks!
Hello! Firstly good luck! I personally would talk to them together as this is your supervisory team so it is important that all three of you are on the same page!
Hi, I am a full-time lecturer in FE but want to do PhD full time, is this possible? I don't want to wait 6/7 years to complete it.
A full time PhD takes 40 hours a week on average. If you can for in 30-40 hours of creative, deep thinking, go for it. But I'd suggest dropping down to 20 hours a week paid work (MAX) so manage a full time PhD.
Very Informative video, Thanks
You're like an elder sis to new comers in PhD in English Literature 😊😘❤️ tysm sister
Thanks a lot Lucy, for kindly sharing ur ideas
Great video, I am grateful to find this, I really needed some positive motivation. Thankyou Lucy✨
Great video. Curious as to why in parts of the video the voice changes? like computer modulated?
You are brilliant! I am pursuing my PhD in literature and I’ve been trying to figure out a simple and useful way of organising my reading and this is the best system I’ve found so far without all the unnecessary clutter. Thank you!!
Oikeastiko luulette, että joku jaksaa lähes koko videon ajan katsoa kasvojanne kun ette käännä kameraa kohti nähtävyyksiä.
I already use mind maps to visualise the themes of my main texts but the way you use mind maps is so brilliant! Thank you for sharing! I will definitely use this method from now on.
You're in Alabama?
no lol, she's in the original Birmingham
This is amazing, thank you so much for sharing it! I'm doing an MRes and struggling so much to organise my notes - that mindmap software alone was worth me watching, thank you.
I’m going to check out the Barber Institute this weekend because of your video!
I'm thinking in my second semester in Feb 2023 of my first year of my degree. My mental health (Anxiety, ADHD) has not been great since December 2022 also and I'm considering talking to an academic mentor to focus on exercise and diet for maybe 3 months. I will make my decision in about 7 days after having a week from Uni. I want to lower stress levels and come back stronger.
I know this video is old but I just want to let you know that it helped me a lot. All through my studies at uni I have been drowning in my research whenever I need to write a paper, because I never learnt how to organize the stuff that I read and my notes. I just highlight a bunch of stuff and hope I remember it when I need it (which obviously isn't working well) I do use a different program for citations just because my uni recommends it and we have workshops to teach us the program, but the basics of the connections between the citation software and the notes documents is what I was missing. Thank you so much for this video!
I am using NVivo and now Mindview8, thank you for sharing your topic made it easier for me to "see" the flow/organization of your thoughts so I may better organize mine. Good Luck!
Thank you lucy. I am going to meet my supervisor in two days. Now I feel more comfortable about it.
Thank you for sharing.
I'm a dyslexic/dyscalculic. I face more bigotry from my ASD diagnoses than my dyslexia. I have perfect pitch and I play 6 instruments, but being talked down to me is insulting.
Hey1 Great video! I graduated in July with.a BA Hons Theatre Performance and Production (Top-up) Degree. I also have dyslexia and dyspraxia. I had been performing from the womb and can't see myself doing anything else. Prior to this, I studied at Lamda (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) to be one of their Drama workshop leaders, that was how I got accepted into my current degree. While I was at university, I created my own workshop idea called the 'Neuroclusive' workshop, which is predominantly acting, but it teaches about memorisation and uses skills that could be used in Life. Because I have been an actor before this, I picked so many tips and things and its now been made into a workshop through the help of my university degree, So yep! IT CAN BE DONE!! We can show those neurotypicals, how it's done!!
