Maybe the doctrine presents to them.Two ideas that are mutually exclusive and their sense of logic requires them to reject it and rightly so. I think chief among these doctrines are the doctrine of eternal torment and the doctrine of atonement that requires the death of an innocent person in order to forgive the guilty. The former presents a god of love that is mutually exclusive from a god of "justice." And the latter presents the most unjustacked in the history of the universe (corporal punishment of an innocent Person in order to forgive the guilty) as an act of required justice. I do not blame anybody for rejecting a god based on these doctrinal descriptions. I reject that too. A third.failure of the christian church is the inability to present the difficult stories in scripture in a way that fits with a god of love. Our blind and unreasonable commitments to these two doctrines and the failure to understand god in the old testament, reveal that it is very often our fault that they reject our god. I would love to hear Dr Lennox grapple with these issues.

@Practical.Wisdom I had an out-of-body experience, and when I started to see the room after sleep and tried to get up, I felt myself detaching from my body. In a fraction of a second, I was standing up, and when I looked at my hands, they seemed like a hologram. There was a field in each hand that moved in a wavy or digital manner. I believe this is where the idea comes from that God made us in His image and likeness, meaning similar to Him, so that we could be eternal. The feeling was that I no longer felt the weight of my body; I felt light. I could see the furniture, the bed, my body in the bed. It was incredible.

Semantic, it means that all the stuff in the universe came into being without the need of a creator, the mere existence of a force like gravity does not indicate a creator either. The building blocks and laws of the standard model have always existed. Nothing was created, because nothing is impossible.

As humans we have two choices -- one is that the physical world can explain many things. Those explanations can be tested, measured, used to benefit humanity. They can be understood, meaning any results using them will mostly correspond to other proofs by multiple sources. Other humans can make use of those items or the results to benefit the human situation. The other is that humans embrace the spiritual, which can't explain or be tested, measured or used. Everything spiritual belongs to beliefs. Beliefs are human imaginations. Therefore there can be as many beliefs as there are human minds to imagine them. The primary benefit to mankind is to feel good, and that can very often be done without God in the equation. The scorecard - on one side we have a limited number of explanations but those explanations are practical for humans. On the other side we have a philosophy with NO explanations that have no use in our physical world.

This implies topic selection for analyzing phenomena must inevitably be linked to tracing the source(s) of one, two or all of the 3 types of evil mentioned above as PURPOSE, and the accuracy of the resultant findings be verified ONLY by how well they serve to PREVENT (certainly NOT TO PREDICT) so selected evil(s). This is the only possible faith independent criterion of proof of any statement of knowledge and the only possible way to get rid of the harlot's prerogative (authority without responsibility) that both, SCIENCE and ALL RELIGIONS, enjoy at present. What he says about faith is very accurate: both science as well as all religions follow the same faith: that there exists a power that steers all events in the universe, IRRESPECTIVE OF WHAT WE OURSELVES DO IN IT. All religions call that power GOD whiles science calls it NATURE, even though scientists don't realize the fact that they only substituted the name of the power from GOD to NATURE while retaining its FUNCTION as creator of all regularities intact. Otherwise science can't DISCOVER fatalistic "laws of nature" explainig, justifying and thus contributing to perpetuate all the evil as they exist, the same way as do all religions ~ only difference being the lack of promise of life after death. The purpose cum criterion of proof mentioned above, on the other hand, renders flow of events in the entire universe dependent on our activities, hence all the errors in the laws (of GOD or NATURE ~ whichever name one prefers to call that power), which cause all the evil, rectifyable by our own efforts. Hence we MUST design the laws nature MUST folow if life is to be sustained evil free eternally and analyze phenomena only to find the means for implementing the laws we already designed. This also involves the faith that the power that steers the universe has NO fixed laws to be discovered, but permits us to enforce the ideal laws we design when they are beneficial to all beings ~ i.e. for eternal sustenance of evil free life function of all beings.
John Lennox completely and hopelessly misapprehends the nature of faith as presented in Hebrews 11! Faith (in the Heb 11 sense) is NOT SOMATIC - it is not of man (lest the creature should boast and so, rob God of His glory)! Instead, faith is entirely DEIFIC - it is of God - Eph 2:8,9! Faith is IMPUTED BELIEF… it is a ‘work of God that you believe’ (Jhn 6:29)! It is the CONSEQUENCE of a sovereign act of grace by God alone - it is NOT CONDITIONAL to justification! The demons believe (Jas 2:19), Judas believed (Luk 9:1), many of Jesus’ disciples believed but who later abandoned him (Jhn 6:66) and many believers are destined to one day hear those dreaded words of Jesus… “Get away from me - even though you believed, I never knew you as one chosen by my Father as one of His own” (Mat 7:21) Ultimately, CHRIST is the author and perfector of (somatic) faith (Heb 12:2) - faith is not a work of man (Rom 9:16, Tit 3:5…) God is not ‘merely sovereign’ or ‘nominally sovereign’ or ‘just-so sovereign’ as Lennox in fact implies and as most professing ‘Christians’ believe, but ABSOLUTELY SOVEREIGN over ABSOLUTELY ALL THINGS, INCLUDING the faith commitments of those whom the Father chose as His own even before He laid the foundations of the world (Eph 1ff) So, the evidence speaks not FOR God, but OF God (Psm 19:1)…

God being a word for everything we sense as real to encompass everything we perceive by living, cant deplete the awe of man amidst the creation until dead after which no brain is left to awe through sensing being alive. God is impossible to detect without a brain, the intangible perception of awe is not imagined , as the awesome tangible is visualized as real. We call this many names. It’s okay .
Please accept the simplicity of gravity as a downward direction drawn toward density and mass that determines which direction is up or down, up being duality with down like cold is a degree of heat lower than hot until below zero which is a negative larger number as temperature decreases. If walking or standing wasn’t a concept , up or down wouldn’t exist to us.
