    I have been training with bulging discs for well over 8 years now, I just keep training, if it gets bad a have some time off and let my back rest, stretch, anti inflammatory’s and strength training when I can. When I train I chose my partners wisely, being a black belt in my 40s everyone wants to go hard so sometime have to tell people “not today maybe next week”

    I’ve had a bulging disc for decades - sciatica and the whole bit; however, my understanding is when it’s herniated it’s a slipped disc and you can’t do much of anything - at one point i couldn’t get out of bed.

    I'm a poor, old, out-of-shape schlub. But damn, if I had money and was managing a fighter... you would be the trainer I hired. Not because I think you are the most-skilled BJJ practicioner, but because I think you are generally wise. I think you could not only come up with a decent-enough training program, but you would also be the best guy to keep a fighter grounded and focused -- and sometimes that can be the most important thing. Can't believe that some of the UFC camps haven't approached you with dump truck full of money yet. And as someone who has repeatedly struggled with sciatic pain... your advice is spot on. I would only add that physical therapists often punch above their weight and can be the most useful medical assistants. Good to see you recovered from covid and keeping at it. Best wishes to you. Keep up the good work.

    What was the realignment technique?

  • @StephanKesting

    The SI joint can go out of alignment in at least three different ways (up and down, rotating forward or back, and tilting left or right), so that needs to be diagnosed first. In my case my left ilium was riding a bit high on my sacrum, so I needed to traction my left leg (but not my right) until I felt a very gentle pop and then 90% of the pain was immediately gone. I repeat that process whenever it comes back. It was startling how reliable a cure this was for me, but - once again - it may not be a cure for you!

    Rolles is more significant in bjj history than mentioned here, his mother would bring him to the US and he got exposed in wrestling and he brought a top wrestling coach to Brazil from the states snd created the Brazilian national wrestling team and introduced wrestling to bjj . He also trained in Sambo and competed and I am not sure but he may have introduced some leg locks

    IMHO (again) one reason why this distinction often gets overlooked is that a lot of people train sport BJJ at MMA academies where they also have striking and wrestling classes so it doesn’t matter so much if the BJJ class doesn’t cover self defence stuff

  • @MetalCooking666
    @MetalCooking666Күн бұрын

    IMHO the only differences are: 1) For self-defence you want at least *some* takedown ability and punch defence; and 2) Some classic BJJ moves of the Gracie era that may have been superseded in competitive BJJ will still work well against some drunk untrained idiot and may be easier to execute.

    This was such a good listen. I been following MMA/UFC for a good number of years and just in the past few months felt like I had finally outgrown it, all the reactionary macho bravado of absolute psycho fighters and fans and trolls gets to one I guess. Good to see some decent guys like you and Luke in the business.

    As a 3 yr purple belt now with 11 years training on and off, and at 48yrs old needing to conserve and not get injured, I sumo for a second to get a feel, and if I can't sweep from knees after a try, I'll just go to butterfly and closed guard Idc where Im at. All positions are equally important to train. But these are great techniques cant wait to try!

    Not in my experience. Either you have the fist choke or you don’t so it’s usually pretty clear who has to tap.

    Funny how only ‘woke’ liberals talking about long Covid. Funny how nobody outside of their circle have long term Covid. We have the data in medical insurance, our numbers do not match what you are saying regarding long term Covid. The CDC is not a valid source anymore, they have lost all credibility. The research is still pending and there is not real conclusion yet. Your point on suicide and depression seems to be valid at this time.

    Luke’s take at the end as a combat sports fan at the end of- so hard to articulate to someone who’s more of a passive fan without coming off as an elitist. I’m glad friends and family are excited about combat sports and ask me about it but so hard to respond as far as interest level and my thoughts which they genuinely are asking knowing that’s my passion

    This was just overall a great interview. Kudos to this guy for knowing what he wanted to ask, and knowing his guest. Allowing Luke to speak. These two could really create and open up a lot of conversations between each other if they continue to collaborate with this approach. (Each of them could take turns in the driver seat and almost have an open discussion rather than debate and give rebuttals)

    SRY sir that's incorrect. You don't need multiple surgeries.... The therapy after dislocating your hip is a skilled manipulation of the hip joint to place the ball back into the socket. But it requires anesthesia.
