Desert Plants of Avalon

Hi my name is Lyn, I am a Cacti and Succulent Horticulturist and I have almost 40 years experience of growing Cacti and Succulents.

I have grown Cacti & Succulents since a young child, and it is from my many years of growing these prickly and fleshy plants that I love to share videos on this channel on how you can care for and grow the many different types of Cacti and Succulents.

In my videos I share tips and tricks on the challenges as well as the many rewards that you can experience growing Cacti & Succulents.

My You Tube videos contain lots of 'How To' video tutorials that are suited for both beginners and advanced growers.

I upload videos on an almost daily basis on Cacti & Succulents and also share other Houseplant care videos too.

If you love Cacti and Succulents or you want to learn more about them, then please do Subscribe to my channel and also check out my website : www.desertplantsofavalon.com

OMG! I'm so sorry, Lyn! I can just imagine how you felt when you saw your beautiful polytunnel in such a state. And the poor cat! I'm so so sorry. I wish I could help you clean up, repot, sweep, anything just to lend a hand. Bless you for being so loving toward the poor unfortunate cat that found itself in peril.

So sorry for your loss! We have 2 cats and they can get themselves into situations! And yes we have to check them that they are in at night. We have neighbours who don’t and it causes fights as our cat Molly was attacked! It’s a lot of work poor you! Plants are tough and hope you don’t have too many losses!

What is the name of the plant in the 18 second part of the video? It is a plant located on both sides of the Buddha statue.

Oh my goodness what a disaster, Lynn! I had similar one winter (I don't close my greenhouse doors at night in summer) when I locked our cat, Catskydoodles, in the greenhouse one night when closing up. Well, she shredded the bubblewrap in several places but luckily there was no plant damage or pot upset (as has happened with you). I must say you are very stoic and have taken this better than I did. Although I did know that it wasn't the cat's fault really at all.

Wow what a mess. You have alot of replanting to do. Poor cat probably was so afraid of those evil plants that hurt him.😊 The owner maybe check his paws for prickles. You have a wonderful attitude. Alot would be crying but you still have a smile. Good you😊

I’m so glad the 🐈 is okay . The kindness you show for him is wonderful . I’m happy he didn’t get hurt. I’m glad the plants will be okay. It’s going to be an uphill climb. I’m worried about identifying everything! I bet you are wise enough to know all of them. What are you going to do about your beautiful poly tunnel? How are your plants going to react to the rain? I hope all will be will. Updates would be great. Sorry you don’t have time to work on it right away. Sorry this happened. Hope you and Hans are doing well well despite all of this.

So very sorry! Poor kitty, too. Hope he wasn't injured by the Euphorbia. I'm wondering if you get a replacement cover, could you double layer it with the scratched cover on the exterior? Maybe bird damage would only be one layer this way and maybe it might add warmth for winter, too?Perhaps it's too tight a fit, but I'm hoping it could be a "silver lining" to the disaster.

Oh no! When I was a child we had a cat that used to purposefully knock a house plant over to get attention. I had to stop him sleeping in my bedroom because I had a collection of cacti in there! I don't blame him, he likely needed to go out to do a wee but his way of making you aware was more than a little annoying!

So sorry that happened and I know you're hurting right now😢 All you can do is take your time and go through everything methodically. The rootballs seem pretty dry so that definitely helps and the weather looks overcast for the next few days so less stress on the plants. Yes, I have been there on a much smaller scale. I had a wooden shelf unit collapse that was packed with rows and rows of just watered cactus and succs. It was a nightmare and I did lose some but once you get over the shock you celebrate what you can save. From what I saw in this video, I think the vast majority of your plants will be absolutely fine 😊

so sorry Lyn,, hopefully you can salvage a bunch of your cacti... pretty devastating mess you your green room as well, i see. 😩hard to believe that was just a normal house cat. looks more like the kind of damage my yard gets from the raccoons that visit my yard every summer....

You might remember that a ginger cat can sometimes get as large as an average size raccoon. I wouldn't want either one trapped and scared in my greenhouse.

ohh my godd Lyn... i am so sorry for you. You sound very positive, but i can imagine i don't know quiet how they say it over there but i say it as we here in Belgium would express our selves... My courage would be in my shoes 🤕... So glad you can see through this disaster and even more glad you were so concerened about the cat and his safety. With yours and Hans's positive vibes you will get it back as it was. Again don't know the english word for it, but can't you place a hor door i mean like those things you put in your windows to keep the musicitos out. That exists for doors as well. so when you leave the door open, the pollytunnel will be closed with such a door, there will be the same air flow, and you won't have to worry anymore leaving the door open!!. The pollytunnel would look great again, i'm sure of it. I give you and Hans a big hugh a sending you lots of love and energy. Love from Belgium, and take care and stay save 🥰🥰😍😍😘😘😘

Oh man, that is so sad! Would installing window screening on your green house doors help? That way you can keep the doors closed, while still getting air into the tunnel and it will keep the animals out. I do realize that you need plastic on the doors during cold spells, but perhaps you could get some removable fiberglass sheets for the doors for when you need extra protection?

Oh my gosh, Lyn. Ginger kitties are known for having a little bit of an ornery streak in them. My daughter (Sydney) has a ginger kitty, named Simba. And the things he has gotten himself into are unbelievable sometimes! I hope that none of your plants of sustained any damage. I do love that your main concern was the well-being of the cat. That just speaks to the type of person that you are. 😊 I sure hope that your week get much better for you. And that the cleanup process moves along quickly. Best wishes....-Bennie ❤ 🌵🍀🌞🌈

What a flippin' MESS! And yes, you are right it could have been much worse..If I lived nearby, instead of halfway round the world, I would be there in a hurry to help clean up and repot. I have had my share of unexpected emergency repots.. due to cats.. possums and storms.. always the last thing you need at the worst time for it to happen. I have every faith you will get it sorted out and back in the finest fettle in no time. XO
