sounds lovely and beautifully played mate. £10k is out out reach for most...I've bough cars for less money! I love a relic'd guitar, like you say takes the worry out of scratching it....doesn't take the worry of having it stolen at a gig and let's face it you are not going to gig that one....I certainly wouldn't.

"Worth the money" is a function of how much money you have. Maybe a bit of ego too. I have some very nice instruments that are very sought after and are trophy instruments to most players who are not rich pros. But I get more joy playing an instrument that feels good and sounds good no matter what it's price than I do contemplating its market value for resale. I play my Revstar a lot more than my Gibson ES335 and play my OMC16e and Alvarez Baritone a lot more than my D35. It is all about the voice I want to project. Worth 10K$? Maybe if I had it to spare and had no other financial concerns. Even then I doubt I would buy any guitar at that price other than maybe a D45-12 string custom shop Martin. But it is in the end a matter of lust and want, not one of need. A sub-$1000 instrument properly set up and maybe a few light mods will do anything needed for most gigs. In most settings the audience will not hear a difference. But a lot of players seem to feel more confident performing with an instrument they consider 'first class' and feel they can't do their best without it. Again goes back to ego.

Had an R6 and an R8, payed $1900 back in 2014-15. Prices are insane now. Now my main ones are a Collings 290 and a Maybach Albatroz Jr. Both with Amber p90s. Both are great, and have cured my lust for new guitars. Paying $10500 for a guitar is bonkers, maybe if a won a hundred times that in a lottery 😅

It would have been nice to see a comparison with a standard non Murphy aged guitar because that guitar doesn’t seem that special tone wise. Sounds like a nice Les Paul but really nothing that exceptional to my ears. It sounds like a Les Paul.

Paying someone thousands to beat up your guitar is a form of insanity. Buy what plays and sounds like the guitar you want and play the hell out of it. It will look beat up soon enough if you play enough to play well. If the artificially banged up unit plays as you want it to (and you can afford it) don’t worry about how it looks and buy it because it works, not for its faked look. IMO a little patience and work will likely get you the same experience for half the cost.

I'm one of those people that think buying an already f$%ked up guitar is stupid . It the same people that buy jeans pre ripped. If you play on stage every night your lp will get f$%ked up on it's own in a few short years. That said when I buy a new lp the first thing I do to it is roll the fretboard, polish frets, rewire using good pots ,caps and in the 50s style. That will give you the same feel of the Murphy crap. Almost all LPS sound so similar it's ridiculous, if you think you can get another 5% out of it spend 500$ on some pups. But I find I can eq to almost any tone I want as much of said tone comes from the player. In conclusion I spend almost 4k on my 2014 traditional and anybody who's ever played it says it's the nicest lp they have ever played and it's beat up pretty good at this point. But I did it all and compared to my sg or 335 it's like new.

This is not a Gibson problem, it is a customer decision. If there are people who wants to pay 10k for a Les Paul that clearly plays with suggestion, and sounds and feel very similar to a 3k Gibson, is just business.

Spend half of that and get a full custom made to your specifications which is hand tooled from Japan…. Not factory overrated, even the Heritage H150 blows the crap out anything from Gibson’s custom shop..

The entire video you talk about how expensive it is and how you're not sure about it being worth the money, but then you play it and it sounds absolutely incredible and clearly many steps above most other guitars. You can drive a Civic too, but it won't be as much fun as a Challenger.

I recently traded some gear in for a 1988 American Standard Telecaster in Sumburst. It happened to be loaded with the Fishman Fluence Tele set. I had no idea what they were. I feel like I hit the lotto with this one. I love the pups and the guitar itself is killer. Ironically, I part of my trade was a Reverend Sensei. The Gristle Master seems like a winner.

I would suggest trying out the Heritage Les Pauls made in the original Gibson factory using the original equipment and employees in Kalamazoo MI. They cost about the same as an LP standard, but I am sure you can get a deal on a used one. The Gibson name tag isn't worth the extra cost.

10k 😂, you have been brainwashed into justifying that sort of purchase. Some one should do a blindfold challenge with 100 different guitar players. They will play 10-20 different high end les paul style guitars. In the end people will see that to our ears and hands 10k is not getting you anything that 2-4K isn’t giving you. The grand prize will be the overpriced les paul of course.😂 Brainwashed monkeys.

Yeah - Gibson has gotten greedy, especially when the economy is heading into the tank. Still suffering from Juskiewicz-itis. I have two ‘Bursts purchased in ‘79 and ‘83, respectively. The aging was done by me and both sound great with their Shaw pickups. Like PT Barnum said, “There’s a sucker born every minute.”

These products are primarily vanity projects. While they may appeal to some individuals, it is important to recognize that their value proposition is largely based on aesthetics rather than tangible improvements in performance or quality. When comparing these products to standard offerings, the price difference cannot be justified solely on the basis of superior craftsmanship, if any.

This is typical of Gibson's sheer arrogance! All their guitar should be up to this level of quality . . We shouldn't have to pay a fortune for a top quality Gibson guitar, especially when other companies offer guitars of similar quality for half this guitar's asking price. I watched an interview with Tom Murphy recently, and to my dismay he revealed that he truly considers himself to be the way, the truth, and the life, when it comes to the future of Gibson guitars in particular, and all guitars in general. Whatever happened to the excitement and anticipation of buying a new guitar? That expectation has been superseded by the desire to buy one that's been made to look old. For goodness sake, people, put your own wear and tear on a new guitar and save yourselves thousands of dollars in the process! So what do I think of this particular guitar? Well, it sure is a super nice guitar, no question, but I don't think it's worth the money. If you, the buyer, put a scratch on it, it'll devalue its resale price! If you've got that sort of money to spend, buy TWO custom shop guitars that haven't been to the Murphy Lab and haven't been beat up artificially to make them cost that ridiculous asking price.

Expensive but people are buying them so apparently worth it. Is the relic worth $5000? Figure the custom shop people are getting paid $50/hr so retail charge is about $100/hr. It probably takes 40-50 hours to properly relic these guitars so the labor charge is reasonable from a financial standpoint. Having said that I would never pay $10k for a guitar.
