    Yes I understand now sorry, I didn't even realise that was not on this clip. The boys on the table worked hard, I remember being on a night shift there and it was a massive southerly blowing through with so much rain and wind they shut the mill down because it wasn't fair on guys on the table

    Thanks for the enjoyable video with off roading in the lovely New Zealand countryside. Two questions if I may. 1. Is Mata School 4x4 a place that teaches and then practices off roading or it simply a club? and 2. Would all vehicles have bash plates for those river crossings? Thanks matey.

  • @garynz345
    @garynz3458 жыл бұрын

    hi there, Mata is a place, small rural community on the east coast of the north island of NZ. The school is a public school for the children of the area. they run a 4wd trek in the surrounding area to help fund raise for extra curricular activities and school equipment. as for the river crossings, maybe some people have fitted bash plates, some of the patrols might have the factory fitted ones but would doubt it. pays to be gentle with the truck in the rocky rivers.

  • @BelloBudo007

    Thanks for explaining mate. I'm in the throws of enrolling in a 4x4 club myself, to practice off road gear and skills, thus the enquiry.

  • @garynz345
    @garynz3458 жыл бұрын

    Thats the best thing to do, get in touch with a club, im sure they will advise you on their equipment requirements and truck requirements. It will be simple things initially like First aid Kits, Fire extinguishers. Recovery gear like snatch straps, tree protectors and shackles. Best of luck out there!!

    Far too much waste, - unless the buyers only want certain sizes. Why couldn't the big chips be made into 'pressed board'.? If 60+ jobs were lost where were the workers - I only saw 1 in the entire video - oops sorry 2.

  • @garynz345

    When filming the intention was to not include too many people as the emphasis was the machinery and operation. There are many people involved in milling, not to mention the forestry side of it. This plant was not a large operation by today's milling standards. As for the waste, yes customers want precise sizes most of the time, there are some that dont require exact sizing but usually that is if the wood will be re manufactured. The waste off cuts are chipped and turned into pulp to make paper. In output based milling you will find only 50-60% of a log is turned into lumber and the rest is chipped with the remaining sawdust usually used to fire Boilers and Furnaces to heat kilns where the lumber is then dried. There is very little 'waste' as in unused parts of the log.

  • @dicksonchin6704
    @dicksonchin67049 жыл бұрын

    Alistair Mitchell You would probably find that the river changes every few months when there is heavy rain any way judging by how clear the river bed is. what gets people banned from areas is the likes of tearing up conservation land and rest areas or parks and dunes etc... There are plenty of designated motor sport areas around but people keep messing it up so the places are being shut off. big powerful trucks don't help either when they dig out big ruts and it just escalates very quickly with water run off and more trucks struggling because of the holes made. Please don't call people names just makes you another key board warrior on the internet.

  • @garynz345
    @garynz34510 жыл бұрын

    hey mate, this is in some forestry around the Gisborne District, I cant remember the name sorry. This isnt a bi annual run sorry, however there are a few around the area. There is a safari called Motu School Safari which is bi annual and the next is in January 2015 then the alternate safari which will be the following year is the Mahia Hunt Club Safari. There is a great run that the East Coast club helps out with which is called the Mata School Run which is normally every year run over 3 days. I highly recommend the Mata Run as its a bit more rugged than the other safaris but caters for all vehicles and is a bit more friendly and based out of the one camp.
