    Did this fix the p0022 & shudder still? Neither came back? My 14 v6 Tacoma just threw the same code and I DO have that same shudder around 35-40mph. Only 84k on the truck… mechanic quoted $600 to replace both sensors which I thought was expensive.. thx

  • @wjgrandcherokee
    @wjgrandcherokee20 күн бұрын

    This did fix the p0022 and the shudder. It can be numerous issues that cause shudders, though. The well-known one is the torque convertor in the transmission. I don't know where the cam timing would stay if you were to unplug the solenoid, but you may be able to do that or just replace the solenoid and see if it fixes it. If it fixes that code and you still have the shudder, i would have the trans fluid changed.

  • @Chris-nb1rt
    @Chris-nb1rt20 күн бұрын

    @@wjgrandcherokee going in Monday to change trans fluid, on my truck the p0022 code actually went away on its own and hasn’t come back. I’m going to see if trans fluid helps or not, if not I’ll try doing these VVT solenoids to see if that is the issue. I’m dreading it being the TC though, shifts very smooth so I’m hoping between trying these things resolves it. Did your truck have an ever so slight rough idle before changing the vvt solenoids?

  • @wjgrandcherokee
    @wjgrandcherokee20 күн бұрын

    @Chris-nb1rt Yes a bad solenoid could definitely cause a rough idle. Chances are if the code went away it was electrical and not timing chains. These valves can definitely get weak over time. Also make sure your battery is good and the cables are clean and tight. Mine through the code with the battery getting weak.

    @dollarbillz29 You're right, I didn't, in all honesty. I'm very thankful that they did replace it. I'd say it was a matter of the cold weather and an inaccurate battery percentage that led to the failure. All in all, a battery is a battery, I just wouldn't get another aftermarket one.

    Mine did the same thing after I fixed the corrosion in the connector. I knew the wiring was good, it ended up being the park neutral safety switch on the side of the transmission. That was also contaminated with corrosion inside. If the shifter moves hard that's most likely the culprit.

  • @Filling_tags
    @Filling_tags3 ай бұрын

    @@wjgrandcherokee the shifter moves fine. So what connection do I check for corrosion

  • @wjgrandcherokee
    @wjgrandcherokee3 ай бұрын

    If the connector inside that's shown in the video is good, it's either the wiring, neutral safety switch (on the transmission) or possibly in a rare case the transmission control module. My neutral safety switch was the culprit the second time the code came back. My case was probably because I plowed with it. Toyotas fix on the later models is to replace the whole harness if the plus is corroded.

    Do you or anyone else know (more) about the Taco alignments? Do alignment specs for Tacos say anything special, like full tank of gas V 1/2 tank, or some other specs the alignment mechs could have missed? I ask because I foolishly had an alignment done (because I had bought a lifetime alignment when I bought new tires) and never had it done in 8 years. With brand new tires, it was immediately off . Slow drift to the right. Another set of new tires & 2nd alignment same thing (drift right). 3rd alignment with a 2 week old state of the art alignment machine got rid of most of the drift but it's still there a little bit compared to before I had it done. Alignment was perfect, was able to go all the way across a river bridge without touching the wheel before. Maybe I should leave it alone, it is 90% better than the first 2 alignments. Tires didn't wear. 2 different shops.

  • @wjgrandcherokee
    @wjgrandcherokee5 ай бұрын

    I did have previous experience with an alignment machine at a dealer years ago. This ofcoarse on a Tacoma would vary depending on the mods, added weight, lift, rim and tire, offset, etc. Vehicles naturally from the factory will have a very slight pull to the right with the crown of the road. This is so if anything ever happened (driver fell asleep) ( wasn't paying attention), the vehicle would not drift into oncoming traffic. When i was a tech, if the pull was slightly stronger, then normal, we could try and compensate by adjusting the caster a little higher on one side. Doing alignments can be very tricky for an auto tech, unfortunately at times. If a place has given free alignments, they may be in a hurry due to the profit loss with doing it for free. Hopefully, this helps. There are days i wish I had my own shop, then most days, i think of the complications like this and why I don't work on them anymore, lol.

    Quite helpful thank you. Gotta dig into this today. Also, on the park neutral sensor issue consider lubing the shift cable. When I had my head gasket replaced my shifter was very tough and I got this code in 2018. They took it back the next day, sprayed silicone on the cable, and worked fine for 6 years.

  • @wjgrandcherokee
    @wjgrandcherokee6 ай бұрын

    Good luck. This video was done a few years ago. I also had to replace the neutral safety switch myself after cleaning the contacts in the junction block. If it shifts hard, that sounds like it's the culprit after all these years.

    @wjgrandcherokee it has 150000 miles. No codes, seems like it runs fine. I do have a tune on it. Nothing is loose. I just changed plugs, cleaned maf and throttle body. I'm wondering if it could be my trans. Very hard to hear where it's coming from and doesn't make the noise in park or neutral

  • @wjgrandcherokee
    @wjgrandcherokee6 ай бұрын

    @Celayagmc Ya, unfortunately, without hearing the noise myself, this is the most help I could give you. At that mileage, anything could be, could be a broken timing chain guide, worn tensioner, and cam actuators themselves. Make a video of it, and if you're on facebook, post it up on one of the Tacoma forums. There's Tacoma world and numerous others. Just type it in the search bar.

    I live in the salt belt and I'm moving up to spraying it at least twice a year. F.F. is great stuff. Rustproofing tip for you, being a pickup owner.....remove the plastic bed rail caps and tailgate cap and get it Line-X'd They hold salt & moisture, plus the plastic constantly vibrates. With the added dirt that gets in there with the vibrating, the paint wears off and it'll rust.

    *JUST A TIP 👉👉 PERIODICALLY LUBE YOUR FRONT BEARINGS (ABS ONLY) THROUGH THE ABS SENSOR HOLE. VERY EASY JUST LIFT YOUR FRONT END AND IF YOU WANT OR NOT REMOVE YOUR FRONT TIRES I PREFER BECAUSE IT'S EASIER TO GET TO THE SENSOR AND PRELUBE THE OUTSIDE OF THE SENSOR JUST WHERE IT MOUNTS SO THAT THE O-RING CAN COME OUT EASIER AND THEN USE AN EXTENDED RED STRAW ON A CAN OF SILICONE LUBRICANT AND SPRAY AWAY. I SPRAY A FEW TIMES UNTIL IT COMES BACK OUT OF THE SENSOR HOLE ALL THE WHILE TURNING THE CV DRIVE SHAFT TO GET IT INTO THE BEARINGS. AFTER PUT EVERYTHING BACK AND DRIVE AROUND YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD SLOWLY AND EVEN TRY TO DRIVE IN REVERSE SOMEWHERE TO GET THE LUBRICANT IN ALL OVER THE INSIDE. HEY IF IT WORKS COOL AND SO FAR MY ABS SENSOR LIGHT HASN'T COME BACK ON!!!!*
