I would turn down the distortion a little. Geddys bass was never this distorted. Good playing but the bass sound is a little rough. Have you checked your input levels using a VU meter? It sounds like its clipping an awful lot. Bass is recording too hot it sounds mixed with too much distortion.

but there seems to be some harsh digital clipping, you may want to check your channel faders and master bus for that and maybe use a limiter
@PrestonHunsinger-un9ce14 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! For the clipping- yes. This is my first recording with a new setup (I’m using Reaper now) and I’m still figuring out how I should balance everything and where to set my levels. It’ll get there :)
@Cake_Doge14 күн бұрын
@@PrestonHunsinger-un9ce Balance your individual channels so that you don't overload your master bus, preferrably have it quite with average peaks of -3dB and do all your processing later, you can push it to 0dB with the limiter. It's all good as long as you don't exceed 0dBFS.

Ive been playing these songs for decades. Its cool to see younger generations trying to keep these old songs that are very much out of style alive on KZread but i would just try and develop your own style man. There is only one geddy lee. Geddy was extremely original. That was the whole thing about him. He developed all this stuff by himself and wasnt copying anyone. Instruments in general are not popular like they used to be. Rock music is a dying breed. Try to find ways to do something unique with it instead of just repeating what was done decades ago. Just some helpful advice to think about 👍

@@belalugrisi1614 geddy? Yes he was influenced by chris, but he didnt try to be him. Geddy was geddy from the very start. He is a very different bass player on those early rush albums than chris who was a pick player and had a much different style. The kid that posted this video is young but he is a good player. I hope he doesnt spend his entire time as a musician trying to be geddy. Geddy was in a classic rock band which is gone now and it cant be replicated.
