Rush - 2112 Overture/Temples Of Syrinx Bass Cover

Happy 48th birthday to 2112!! Here’s my cover of 2112 Overture/Temples Of Syrinx. This album, as well as Moving Pictures and Signals were my gateways into the Rush world a few years ago. These 3 albums changed everything for me, so I had to celebrate the birth of this one. I will ask that you please forgive some of the shoddy timing in the beginning, my brain was exploding trying to count the intro 😂 Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy!
Recorded direct with bassless track
Rickenbacker 4003

I really thought Rush would just die out over time because their music is so esoteric, but here's the new generation keeping Rush alive! Awesome bass playing and the intense facial expressions show how much he's into it! Really enjoyed this one!

If you’re a reader, pick up his autobiography “My Effin’ Life”. Fascinating story and an easy read “like he’s talking to you in the same room”. His parents, pre-marriage, survived 6 years in the WW2 prisoner or war camps. Got married directly after and migrated to Toronto. And the story goes on!!

How cool would it be to one day be acknowledged by Geddy Lee? Well done Preston. For me, 2112, Farewell to Kings & Hemispheres (76’-‘78’) were my favorite 3 years of Rush.

If I was acknowledged by Geddy then my goal as a musician would be complete 😂😂😂 I did tag Geddy in an Instagram story once and he saw it but that’s the closest I’ve ever been to being acknowledged by him.

Hey man, do not apologise for a single thing you KILLED IT...the intro was funny as well, great idea to fill the time :D overall enjoyable video and fantastic musicianship....can you please tell me whether you used 'vintage' push/pull thing on that rick..and did you use both pickups or bridge only for this one? Either way great tone! Cheers \m/

Thanks for watching!! And thanks for the positive feedback! I didn’t use the vintage switch, and both pickups were on. My neck pickup was at full, and the bridge was at half :)

@@PrestonHunsinger thing is i thought it sounds more vintage than the typical scooped clang of a 4003 when both pickups are on...i guess its down to that pedal of yours...either way...fantastic sound!

The playing wasn't too bad, but terribly rushed (seriously, NO pun intended!). Lucky for you, you're still just a young kid and you have plenty of time to learn to play as well as you think you do. Stick with it, watch your rehearsal and perfornce videos and be honest with critiquing yourself. You may just bring it all together, each in the right measure and be a real good performer some day! 👍

Well I’m a second in and already upvoting for your righteous maple Rickenbacker bass. Literally my dream bass. Also what Geddy was playing on the album if I remember correctly. It’s wonderfully growly when played hard, as you’re doing. That’s what most people covering Rush get wrong-they play too light. Keep up the great work!
