I have the SL 1 Version of this bike with 500 miles on it. I weigh 200 lbs and never had a problem with the battery life. And honestly once you get used to the slack head tube angle you don't even think about it. I ride pretty aggressive desert terrain and this bike has taken everything, jumps, drops, chunk, speed, berms, all of it. It's a very fast bike. The two drawbacks I see is that you will strike at the mullet set up on something. It has a low BB. I flipped it to the 29er set up and the bike clears everything. The other thing is that I was considering putting on a 38 on this. I'm still on the fence about that. I did put on TRP Evo Brakes on this along with the SC Reserve 30 SL Rims. With pedals and downhill tires the bike weighs 46.1 pounds. If I add the 38 it will add on 8 oz but that is nothing with an ebike. If you race ebikes, you'll get beat by the Levo or the Orbea Wild on the uphills. Downhill and flats those bikes won't be able to keep up with the Moterra SL. So it depends on your course.
Would you recommend these for hot weather riding in dry St George, UT
if you're looking for goggles, absolutely.
Removable battery always for me, don't overlook the problems trying to operate a freezing cold ebike if it is stored in the winter in sub zero temperatures in a garage or shed.
Old video but here's a great pro tip - Get a box of dollar store shower caps. they slip right over them. Great for helping keep contaminants off.
Sick!
What was brand and model was that pink tire?
Or cube, never have an ep8,,,, cant beat bosch
I visited during Bikefest. Cool spot. I had the original Decoy for a couple of years. I’d like to give the Izzo a go. Maybe next time.
Right on. Thanks for watching.
Don't European & US riders run the brakes the same way ? I thought only the UK has them the ''wrong'' way :))
Pretty sick!
It is a rad spot. Thanks for watching.
Just bought a Jeffsy, can't wait till it gets home in Missoula, Montana!
That’s awesome congrats and enjoy.
How come no transition repeater PT?
Yt seems to be killing it. Decent bikes at reasonable prices. Hopefully other bike companies adjust their prices to be more 'Realistic'
They definitely seem to be holding some impressive price points.
First!
Thanks for watching.
I was just in Branson last week. Didn't get to ride there but did catch a show. Then proceeded to ride at Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and now in Bentonville for a week of riding.
Well Done ! An excellent & thorough review that obviously came out of experience. The Shimano Cues system is being sold as "made for e-bikes" or at least more able to stand up to the heavier loads and higher torque of a big class III e-bike. One thing I can speak to based on personal experience is, Don't get the Shimano brand CN-LG500 Chain on backwards ! My new e-bike came w/ the Cues RD-U6000 10/11 speed Derailleur & matching CS-400-10 cassette but had KMC e- bike chain installed. When I'd decided to go w/ a larger Chainring I thought I'd try out the Shimano LinkGlide chain and proceed to install the chain w/ the markings/lettering on the "inside", instead of facing outward (like it says in the installation instructions). While testing & adjusting the shifting in the shop you knew something wasn't right just turning the Crank by hand. Rotating the Crank fetl "ratchety", iow, you could feel every sprocket cog engage w/ the chain. I didn't ride w/ this setup but until I did some online research, I finally read where this is a No-No. I reversed the chain (writing to the outside), and suddenly everything worked Very smoothly. 😊 I'm not sure if KMC chain has the same requirements, but I'll be paying attention to that in the future. And yes, I already knew that some Master Links were directional.
buen video
The Bosch charger has a lip on it like a small ramp which is the top of the charge plug so it goes in the right way every time. Just wanted to say that 🙂 I also would like to see standard mounting for motors so you can choose the system you prefer. Plus waterproof the entire systems to stop so many faults.
Why there is no a single Specialized e-bike in this shootout? Turbo Levo SL Pro Carbon for example, no? Are they damned due to some reason? 🙂
Put some more commercials in pfft
How come now Merida or Cube entries?
No love for the YT Decoy
The fit and finish of the Orbea rise and their US customer support is abysmal
Thanks for your review. I use this bike on nearly everything at Aliso and Laguna. I bought a small when i should have got a medium. The bike is fast on 5oaks. Ive adjusted my leg stance using this bike on some very great trails. The bike maneveuvers great at Greer, Joplin, lower Holy Jim, Telonics. Jist get behind and your great.
I’ll stick with my Ibis Oso. One demo ride was all it took.
i kinda got used to it
So i just bought the altitude powerplay last week (same motor) and while I agree it's far more powerful than other bikes I've ridden, I'm running into significant overheating issues that are worrisome to me. I know your test this year only had 4-500 vert but I'm noticing than this motor can't handle riding 5K vert on boost 0 / 100% power without tripping motor over-heat. If that's true (meaning my motor isn't somehow defective) I think buyers would want to know that detail b/c I know, for a fact (b/c I rode with them today) that Shimano, Bosch and Brose motors can all handle this ride with out needing to "power down" from turbo to not overheat. Loam Wolf is "all turbo all the time", as am I, so imagine my dismay when I buy a new top shelf EMTB only to learn it can't do what my 3 year old turbo levo can do easily (on the up)....
and I'm being super diligent about riding at 80 RPMs or higher- which is harder but one of the reasons I bought the bike b/c I wanted a bit more fitness vs. the Levo.......as well as the much better descending capabilities.
Running different tires seems like a mistake. I get it, but you've introduced another variable, which you agree makes them feel different, when having the same tires (how they came) would level this out more. Certainly on the timed runs.
Great video as usual from this crew! A bit disappointed to not have the SCOR LT Z series here … it’s a shredder!!
Thanks! I bought a pivot lt last year thanks to your input appreciate your hard work help me more than my dealer went a size down also and very happy
No discussion on compound. It would be interesting to hear if a less aggressive but softer compound would bridge the gap between a between a faster rolling tire and a aggressive tire but with a harder compound if even available. Example. The Nobby Nic is not available in a super soft.
What happened to the Santa Cruz SL?
Like well, you just talked me out of buying one of these.

As always excellent review would have love to see major brands like other years ( Specialiazed trek santa cruz)
Pinion MGU is on my next bike if no one else makes a gearbox motor unit. basta!
For anyone here in 2024+, in the video they mention adding more advanced trails and even a proline, but 3 years later none of this has happened. Any ideas on why? 3:06
It’s good to have all four of you with rider input, makes for a balanced review. Top work guys
Thanks very much. Glad you enjoyed it.
Confession here, I too have cracked on young guys heading up a paved climb on e-bikes to do another shuttle run. At 65 and not in the shape I was even 5yrs. ago and having way too many bikes already, if there is a "next" bike it will probably be an e-bike, and the wife gets one first! As far as people are concerned, we are all flawed and need a Savior. Thanks Loam Wolf.
I demoed one from the Merk on Friday, Living in Oakridge Or, I feel like this should be my next bike. Hell, it's probably the perfect bike for living ANYWHERE! Definitely ordering one!
As always, nice job with the video! I'm curious why you didn't include the Ibis Oso? Maybe it's old already? I'm curious about the Rocky Mountain. I always hear issues with their Ebikes as mentioned here with the clutch and overheating? Are these causes for concern? Or are these just one offs? Other than that they seem like great bikes and I'd like to demo one.
If a bike is going to have a removable battery, it needs to be a better more robust design. NOT A CRAPPY PLASTIC COVER (that rattles)
Really wanted a Pole then they went bust 😢
It really doesn’t matter what a Lycra bro says I’m gonna laugh at them
I’ve heard these motors aren’t sealed so dirt, water can get in and cut the life significantly. Also have heard the Shimano motor wasn’t repairable. Those two things in and of themselves makes this seem like a throw away product, or at the best…even more expensive if you have to replace the motor. Is this true? I heard this on an embn KZread video.
Cool motorbike review
Thanks!
Stop washing bikes with a pressure washer!
Nice! I was at Howler during your last day of shooting. Cool to see you guys there in my neck of the woods.
Standardized plug port would be nice or paint a dot on the top of the plug and be done. I’d like to see more options for wireless remotes. I have a Rail 9.9. with the wireless remote and I don’t think I could live without it now. Real problems right!
lol where is this
Central Oregon, near Prineville.
