    Thank you for this video! I have a friend who is curiously enough pulling out of a gentle CM style co op, enrolling her oldest two 2 children in a hybrid because she says she has to do a lot of prep for her CMEC curriculum. To me, something is amiss there. I have been schooling my kids for over a decade, almost two decades. I Read Home Education early on in my journey. Keep my schooling as close to CM as I can, enjoying my family, protecting my children’s wonder and awe. I don’t think it’s that complicated. I love a book called Pocket Full of Pine Cones and truly it gave me a guide as to what I wanted my homeschool to be like. I believe if anyone wants to school CM they need to read Pocket Full of Pine Cones by Karen Andreola. Charlotte Mason was certainly not a busy momma with a couple of toddlers and babies in tow. Her style looks a lot different in real life with a large family and household full of chores. It definitely is not loading up the momma with a dozen individual subjects for each one of her children.

    Oh nooo, please don't feel like that!! These are all the books for the whole year - so we won't be doing each of these every day or every week! One of my upcoming videos will be about how I'm scheduling, and you'll see that it breaks down into very reasonable pieces, where we're only reading out of 2 or 3 books per day. And if it turns out to be too much (it very well could turn out that way since it's my first time doing my own thing) then I will drop things with no guilt! Pleaseeeee don't feel like what you're doing is inadequate. Your school picks and mine may look totally different in number and area of study, but if we can both still be feasting!!

    I’d love info about the gloves and knives your kids were using in the intro video. My son (6yo) loves bushcraft/whittling but I’m nervous about a sharper knife than a butter knife. 😂 I’d love a booklist also, I love seeing what others are loving for this age.

    We chose to do math u see as well this year! I was able to get all the teacher guides and videos for about $3 a piece on eBay. Wish I could find the work book more affordable but that’s ok. We also printed out some art/math pages from the good and the beautiful as practice sheets for her. She loves the beautiful art filled pages. They are free online if you are ever curious! You can print whatever your child might be having a hard time grasping and add it in. I find since we lean CM my daughter is really into beautiful things 😅

    I’d love to see your video of favorite kinder books! I have a 4 yr old who’s turning 5 in September, so my plan looks pretty similar to yours! I’m using kinder TGAB language arts and math since it was free but won’t require it; just use it to help introduce or continue concepts we’ve already started gently. Our morning time during breakfast consists of looping Bible, scripture memory, catechism, folk sin, hymn, and manners/virtue (I have sweetly illustrated flash cards with a woodland creature and a virtue, and I make up a story of that animal practicing or not practicing that virtue and the result). I may dabble in narration, but only as practice, not requiring it, though he naturally narrates after a story by wanting to act out whatever we just read

    THANK YOU. I am relatively new to CM although I've been homeschooling for 9 years. I started out following Well Trained Mind and gradually moved to CM style while reading her Vol. 6 and many Karen Glass books. In an effort to just take the CM plunge and go all in, I joined the CMEC for 24/25. I spent ALLLLLLL of last summer planning, prepping, pre-reading and creating a time table. I did not enjoy summer at all. And two weeks into term one, I dumped the time table and went back to a loop schedule for our morning time and group subjects, and gave my kids a suggested schedule and let them plan their individual time how they wanted (they are 11 and 13). It is very easy in a world of CM purists to feel inadequate, but I think you are 100% right. I have often wondered what Charlotte would say to us today. What she created her programs for was actually quite different from a family homeschool environment and i don't think she would say it all would be practical implemented just so. I did not join the CMEC again this year because i thought there has to be a more practical application of her methods for today's homeschool. The timetable was the first clue.

    If you were interested in in a little spark of fun and flair in a very nature based and beautiful way. Hearth Magic on Etsy has a wonderful literature unit for Eind in the Willows. My children love when I sprinkle one in occasionally because it’s unlike any book companion I have ever seen. It’s fun and nature based and very creative!

    Do you think the Abeka Handbook could be used to improve a newer reader in sounding out words better?

  • @AHeartForHomeEducation
    @AHeartForHomeEducation16 күн бұрын

    Abeka uses a very different approach to phonics, but I think maybe practice with their blend letters may be helpful? They have a "my blend book" that has just blend ladders. Depending on the level of your child, you could re-start at the beginning and fly through the first couple of chapters, just so your child understands the approach.

    I am blessed by your homeschool videos! And I’d just like to say that I related so much to your comment on being the mom watching other moms homeschool videos and feeling inadequate. There is a specific channel/podcast that I listen because everything she says is such pure gold when it comes to a classical Charlotte Mason education, yet I leave the episodes feeling educated yet discourage. I don’t think it is on purpose but her content paints a picture of Charlotte Mason perfection, that her children are perfectly habit trained, that their lessons go flawlessly, etc. Rarely does she ever tell of relatable real life interruptions in her homeschool or with her family. It leaves this mom feeling like my homeschool could never measure up and that my children are missing out on a perfect education.

  • @AHeartForHomeEducation
    @AHeartForHomeEducation16 күн бұрын

    Thank you for sharing that. Honestly, this is a huge reason I started this channel - because of content like that! We can hold ourselves to high standard of excellency in our homeschool and treat it with care and serious attention, but real life still happens, and we ought not get discouraged by what real life looks like! I want to share the balance of pursuing the excellence Mason, the classical tradition, and ultimately Christian parenting call us to, while still reminding myself and other mothers that perfection isn't attainable, and real life can and does still happen in the Mason home. I've had seasons where I've been tempted to give up Mason's ways altogether when I was in a spot of only hearing the highlight reel of someone else's homeschool journey. I felt burdened to share my experience with the CMEC and now I'm still sharing for the same reasons. Thanks for being here, Elizabeth! 🤍

    Wow, I had the opposite issue with the lesson plans. I found it so freeing to not have daily lesson plans. I hated AO because I constantly felt behind. I loved that they focus on the time table being the plan. Reading as much as you can in the time allotted and just moving the book mark. I do agree about the books and community.

    I'm so glad I found your channel. You have such a sweet, calming voice. We are going into year 7 of homeschooling, but our first year 100% CM. We absolutely LOVE Little Pilgrim's Progress. It's so, so good❤. I'd love to hear you talk a little bit more about notebooking. We have our nature journals. We will add in a book of centuries which I find very intimidating. I'm thinking I need to add a commonplace book for my 7 yr old and 10 yr old. I'm very much a "notebooker" but not in an organized way. I'm excited for you and your DIY curriculum! 🎉

    I love your choices! We do Story Of The World as well as AO Year One! I would recommend holding off for Robbin Hood until next year when you can do medieval times as it will flow more smoothly. Of course do what you want and make your own choices, but I try to keep our books as aligned as we can, of course it won’t always work that way but I adapt when I can and don’t worry too much when I can’t.
