    It took me a few tries before I understood that I have to click the center point or rim of the circle I've selected before I click the vertex to which I wish to move or copy the circle. This isn't very intuitive. Clicking anywhere other than the center or rim of the circle selects an offset from the center point which is applied to the destination vertex. It wouldn't be implemented this way if there wasn't a purpose, but I'm not sure what that purpose might be. Can you clairify?

    I'm trying to basically make a bunch of parts to put together a large robotics project. I'm starting with just a part of it, which is basically just an arm of the robot (it will have multiple arms for multiple tasks so just starting with one arm) and since med/large servos are super expensive I found a way to make my own cheap, so each servo I use will also be broken down into parts. I already designed 1 servo in freecad, but it was a year ago and I have been using fusion 360 so I'm super rusty now. Also I want to be able to move this arm within freecad to show my friend how it's going to move after I construct the whole thing for real. I never learned that part before. So my question is, would this be a good tutorial series for brushing up on things and also being able to put all the parts together to make an assembly or animation or w/e they call it in freecad, and if not can anyone point me to one? I don' t want to commit a bunch of time to the wrong tutorial for the task at hand, and I don't know a lot of the terminology for what I'm trying to do so it's difficult to just look at the titles and know if it's a good fit, TIA!

    I was wondering if you could add a verbal cue for the shortcuts. Something like " Select the horizontal constraint here or L on they keyboard". Back in the dark side days when learning Photo$hop, the instructor would add in the shortcut keys. Sometimes it was a bit clumsy because most of the shortcuts had modifier keys. Mac and Windows different modifiers with the same names (alt for Mac ctrl for Windows ). Halfway through the class you were thinking the shortcuts and by the end you were using them. Note: Some of the shortcuts started with the joke "Hold down the right side of the keyboard and press...."

    Thanks for the new series! I went through the old one some time ago since I needed to manage the basic fast (there was a time sensitive need), and now, since I have more time, I can do the lessons more systematically and with no rush. So it is great it is now based on the newest version of Freecad. Can't wait for the next lessons. I think I will join your patrons community pretty soon.

    I found the options that were making tutorials impossible to follow as I was missing a lot of icons on the tools bar. Go into Preferences > Sketcher > General, and uncheck "Unify Coincidental and PointOnObject", "Auto tool for Horizontal/Vertical", and set Dimensioning constraints: to "Separated tools". Then you will get all the icons they have in the tutorials.

    Nice this 0.22 version. Nice video's. Don't know how you do it. First a great series on version 0.19 and now starting all over again. Chapeau. However, In the current weekly build I miss specific items on the toolbars (e.g. the Constrain coincident on the Sketcher toolbar). In Customizing the toolbars I am not able to add items to the existing toolbars and rearrange them. The only option I find is to add a sub-toolbaar and then add the Coincincident constrain to that sub... I then have the functionality available but can not reaarrange the icons with the icons that were availble in the first place. Am I missing something?

    Says something when you need a tutorial to move something. Even worse half these things Don't work when i try. Example trying to move a part in the part Design gives no movement arrows! I just keep hitting this wall. Click on something to do something with. Nope. Got first go to this other workbench. Then make it compound then go somewhere else then move then ... It is like a and then story. WHY? Why is a basic UI/UX of click on something not a freecad thing. Is it like -- stuff other cads, we don't want a few click work flow. I came to freecad as onshape have hiked prices. Don't get me started with other cad EULAs. But WHY after all these years are we still stuck with such a wall of absolutely opaque workflow and tools? I am stuck trying to make free cad work. But dam freecad is not making it easy.

    Theres is no point increasing the number of triangles of ur CAD Models when importing to Slicers for 3D Printing. Tessimation is only used to maintain smoothness of CAD Models when using them in 3D softwares such as Blender, Maya or ZBrush, CAD models are not editable in tyese sofwares, you need to retopologies them to be useful, so why retopologies if u can create ur models inside these models? CAD models are not Mesh that is why when u imported them at low triangle counts they lost their shape. Vice versa, mesh models are not editable in CAD Sofwares because beause mesh are made o' point, edges and faces.

    I have been making tutorials the last few days for the CFDof workbench for all the high powered rockets i make. CFD and FEM in ondsel (freecad) is really powerful and easy. Ondsel has done some EXCELLENT development for both workbenches. I also did a few tutorials on how to use FEM in freecad and ondsel with a wind turbine blade that i show how to model based off of your videos on airfoils haha. I use prepomax as well since it is easy, opensource AND can mesh STL files

    A question - At ~14:00 where the approximate surface is created - the surface does not fully follow the curve of the sketch from the side view image. Is it simply that one just needs to add more free-hand curves between the font and rear split curves to get a better approximation?

    so I do a rectangle and it is locked down. I close, yours reads name-body-sketch, on mine it reads name-sketch-body, and when i try to pad the sketch it says i do not have an active body? any ideas?

  • @MangoJellySolutions
    @MangoJellySolutions4 күн бұрын

    By what you have described your body wasn't active when you created the sketch. To get around this right click on the body and select, toggle active body. The body should be in bold. Any new sketches will be created inside the body. If you have a sketch outside the body, drag and drop it inside. Hope that helps.

    thanks for your fine videos! i hope i'm not bothering if i ask you something that is troubling me for very long time. i am trying to make a 3d printable cookie cutter or signature from an image. there is no problem if i manually make the sketch for a simple image but many issues arise if it's a more detailed image. i put it in inkscape to make an .svg file but freecad finally sees b-splines and that gives errors...

    Sometimes Part workbench at first might seem worse option but things like boolean operations works much better than in part design. Sometimes sadly further editing geometry can brake in both benches when importing stl and converting it to solid.

    One of the reasons FreeCAD isn't really free-it costs you your sanity. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the hard work of the devs for making a powerful CAD program that's free to use. But man, does it have its flaws.
