What you have is call a blue tint red face. I think 66 was the last year of the 2 piece control panel ending the blue tint red face. 67 started the one piece control panel with the red face. 70 was a round barrel with a black face that was the same as the red face panel but all black. After that they went to the octagon barrel and the black face of which there are 3 black face. The first was a large black face. It was more of a square than the narrow red face. The second was the same large face that had a green light for the charging circuit, the third was the same large face with a warning label. The last copper wound SA200 were round barrels. Time is slipping away from me and so is my memory so check your facts.

I've had a '46 SA200 'junior' for years-it runs and welds good, a '48 shorthood with a blown motor-lots of parts but worth the 100 bucks I paid. Just got a Hobart 300amp with a Buda motor that just needs a carb for 100 a month ago. My PipePro 400 runs 12k amps A/C power,400amps D/C. there is no better sound in the world than the throaty sound of a 200 idling up!!

Two piece front face is 65 and earlier.......contrary to popular belief the red face blue dial isn't a magical machine, Lincoln was probably sourcing other vendors for the face plates and that is what they got from that particular vendor and Lincoln used them til they ran out. I've heard almost all the "stories" about red face blue dials......best advice I could give is DO NOT CHOP ANY SA 200's...go with 1 wire alternators, 70 and later oil filter set up, wire it for a remote, Murphy gages if you like and stay with a Fairbanks-Morse mag....

It depends I paid 1k for my 48 but it runs and welds a little tinkering and 650 for the red face blue dial but I hadn’t run for at least 7 years a lot of tinkering but I think is worth more. That being said I would probably buy every one I find if I have the money to do it if not I don’t

He said that his neighbor needed money for a move and he gave him some money for the welder. He did not see it run but as you know it doesn't take much to get them running.
