How's it going? Do you still have the saw? I am hoping to build a cylinder for my saw. It is an older Model 90. I haven't been able to find anyone else with one, and the manual only shows a spring not a cylinder. If you're able to could you take a few measurements of your hydraulic cylinder? I'm trying to figure out what size it needs to be, how much travel it needs and where to mount it. Thanks!

EVERYTHING makes a difference on the eventual sound the bell will make. If you could hang the bell from a good piece of BONE or ANTLER instead of the metal ring, you'd have a different sound. If you trimmed just a 1/4 inch off the bottom, you'd have a different sound - it's called "Tuning the Bell". If you could put the bell on a metal lathe and "TRUE UP" the cylinder, you'd have a more "TRUE" sound instead of the Ghastly "Plinking" effect and then the rich overtones following that. Cutting designs into the side walls will change the tone as well. If you can put that bell into a forge and heat up the open end then flare out the open end to give it a more "Bell" like appearance instead of a cylinder you'd get a better sustain on your ring.

To answer your question at 30 seconds: _Which is more Important, the tone or the aesthetics_ ... It's the TONE ...for 2 reasons. No one wants to listen to a symphony orchestra that is out of tune and if it were the aesthetics, you'd need not cut the tank...just hang it up in a tree or from the eve of the porch. So the TONE beats Aesthetics hands down.

4 quarter inches and then 16/187th of an inch to the left. Why can't Americans just adopt the metric system? Appreciate the video tutorial but damn the system.

That's the best one piece rose I've ever seen done and it's executed in a way that not many people would have thought to ensure the success of the project and it's the most realistic one piece rose

When striking the bell, the striker should be wrapped in thick leather, or wrapped in cotton twine. That will keep that annoying, high-pitched "CLANGGGG" noises to a minimum.

This is a great video!!!! Thank you for your service, sir. I just bought a full-length cylinder from a scrap yard, and I can't wait to get started. I've wanted my own bell like this for years.

5/16, that's more branch than stem, 5/32 rod is more representative of and actual rose stem , it's strong enough to support the rose but still small enough to put some small bends in like a real stem would have....

A TOTALLY different sound will be made by using a different clapper....try the handle and not the sharp knock of the ballpeen hammer. and strike from onside! I found this out from using old dive tanks!........All different and more pleasant sounds!

A man up by Provo Utah Uses a gearbox from an old semi-truck and a large electric motor. It has a tail stock about 30 feet away. He puts in a few 3" pipes, 4" angle Iron and a bunch of other stuff to make a round of about 1- foot diameter by thirty feet long. He twists this all cold and it ends up looking like an African vine. He twists up barb wire out of two 2" round bars with 1/2" by 2"x 12" barbs. I have a 2" square bar twisted cold just for fun that he gave me. He has a giant workable bear trap he hauls around to show on a semi-truck and trailer. I think his name is Delo Larson. He has passed away now but his work is still around.

Short but very good video. If you twist a single-angle iron by itself you have a center hole that works well for running wires up through like on a lamp or chandelier.

Also you could make a fixed resonator out of wood. If tuned properly it would amplify low fundamental notes
