My machine is Mill, the spindle motor is also from FUNUC, can Centroid AC/DC Drives control it?

Not likely. I would suggest you call Centroid. You'll need a spindle drive that accepts +/- 0-10vdc analog input

Hello Marty! I haven't seen you post in a while. I have a question for you. I use an acorn, and I need to wire up the limit switches. On my X and Y axis I have only one swith and two trips on this retrofit machine. Is it possible to program Acorn for one switch per axis? Thanks.

@martyscncgarage5275 Hello, Marty, Im not talking about the goming switches. I was talking about the hard limit switches in case the servos run away. I have one limit switches per axis and two trip blocks on both ends of the table. That's the way Anilam did their CNC that I'm retrofitting with Acorn. I think I might have a solution, I'm thinking of running parallel wires from one contact to for both axis limits.

Hey Marty I was looking at buying a DMM 86M-DHT 0.75kW AC Servo Motor and run it from one of the DYN4 AC Servo Drives. Do you think the 86M-DHT motor would fit in the Syil X4 head? It says its a NEMA 34 and with 14mm shaft just like the original BLDC motors the machine comes with? Thanks

I don't recommend using an AC servo for a spindle motor. I have not had good luck getting them tuned. They are really not designed for spindles. Feel free to reach out to DMM for further advice.

Hey sorry if I'm annoying you with all the questions but I think what your doing is awesome and I want to do the same thing. Infract I even went and bought a CUI Devices AMT312Q encoder for the spindle motor and a used Ultra3000 drive in hopes to be able to have variable speeds up to 5000rmp with ridged taping. well it turns out that the drive I was sold is defective with error faults that I cant get to clear and work properly. Anyways I'm thinking of throwing my ripoff drive away and starting from scratch including the spindle motor. I was just wondering what DMM spindle motor should I get and a drive? Or which ones can I get that would still be compatible with the encoder and but convertible to run on Step/Dir and fit in the Syil X4? Anyways awesome thanks....

I would try and stick with a 3 phase motor and VFD with a braking resistor for the spindle. I got lucky and was able to mount a differential 5vdc encoder on the other end. I would go with Clearpath SDSK servos on all axis. Be sure to get one with a brake for the Z axis if necessary

@martyscncgarage5275 Hi Marty so I went ahead and bought one of these it was bran new from a guy on OfferUp. I’ve got it all setup and running great with LinuxCNC but my only problem is I don't understand how to get the spinal working through software. I’m able to run M3 S1000 and M4 S1000 and on the display panel of the machine indicates the direction is changing from forward and reverse but the spindle does not turn on. Is there some sort of PWM settings I’m also supposed to be configuring? If so, I don’t understand it and my guess is that I’m supposed to configure PWM on either pin 3 or pin 9 because in the user manual it says those are signal pins of some kind. I did try it once and after turning the spindle on through LinuxCNC the back of the main power panel made a horrible noise like a relay freaking out and immediately pulled the plug. Hope I didn’t damage anything. But can you give me any advice on what I should do? There's no information about configuring the spindle online and Syil won’t respond to my messages. You seem to be extremely knowledgeable on all this. Thanks?

In August 2008 I purchased a new CNC milling machine with a centroid control. It was exactly 15 years to the day and to the hour from the time I energized the machine, that the mother board crashed. Take it for what you think, but I think an inbuilt virus is to blame for the sole reason of selling another control. Once you have a $30,000 machine and the control dies you have a $30,000 boat anchor. So yes I did buy an updated control and now it has been 3 weeks trying to get the spindle to rotate. 4 months and the machine is still a boat anchor. Please help me.

Hi Ronald. Not sure what you have. I can tell you that many people get overwhelmed with the conversion and or find they don't have the ability to wrap their mind around it and abandon the project. @@laserfalcon you need to identify which Teknic clear path motors and drives you have and how they are controlled first. Especially if you plan on using Centroid Acorn. They must be able to take step and direction signals. I suggest you get the drive and axis motor model/serial numbers and give Teknic a call and ask to talk to an Applications Engineer. They are most helpful

Marty, while using this video to add homing to my machine I noticed that you were required to cycle reset to start your machine. The version I am using does not have this feature. This is want. I want to require a software reset on power up and after an e-stop. Is this an option somewhere in the parameters? Sorry a little off topic.

The software used to require a reset on power up. Are you saying that feature is missing? Please run over to the Centroid CNC User's forum and post a fresh report there with your concern. Centroid will comment on it. If you hit Estop and reset E-Stop, you reset CNC12

All in the Centroid All in One DC installation manual. You follow the in screen prompts as you do the test
