Inspire n Ignite

Inspire n Ignite

I am Zahid, did my B.Tech. M.Tech and PhD in Computer Science and now working at Samsung Electronics in South Korea, for last couple of years. In 2006 I have been awarded as "IBM Best PhD Student".

I traveled all across India, north, south, east and west. I was lucky to get a chance to visit all IITs, IISc, and ISI Kolkatta. I started my education with a private engineering college and ended up with a PhD from IIT Roorkee in 2007.

I strongly believe with extra effort and consistency anyone can reach at highest position in life. This all helped me to finish my PhD in less than three years with good amount of publications, scholarship, foreign assignments for research, an award from IBM helped me a lot.

I started this blog to help and support student who are average with an extraordinary attitude to achieve their dreams. If you are one of them, I welcome you here and wish to get your support to join me to help many like us.

    There could be only two reasons for someone to choose IIT over IISc :-- 1. The most obvious reason - His/her GATE rank isn't good enough (IISc MTech course typically asks for <50 rank holders & NOT <100 as mentioned by you) 2. He/She is an IIT Bhakt like you who simply wants to join the industrial labour force instead of academia which typically IISCians do... Anyhow IISc is clearly a better choice in every aspect and you will find even IITians prefer to do research from IISc after their BTech if they are stayin back in India but they will always prefer MS/PhD abroad over another degree from IIT...

  • @epictetus__

    @@souvik___dey__ Lol who told u that one needs under 50 rank in JEE Advanced to get IIT?? My cousin brother got AIR 5K and he is in Kgp.. I am from Jadavpur and prefered it over Kgp even though I was having simillar rank...An IIT degree without core/relevant streams is pretty useless... And you can get top IITs like KGP with even 10k rank in Advanced in Ext. merit list... Its not the same case for IISc... But I am not telling IISc attracts better minds... if you calculate the percentile cutoff then both institutes are simillar (1 lakh candidates give GATE and 10lakh candidates give JEE)... so <100 out of 1lakh is 99.9%ile and <5k out of 10lakh is also 99.5%ile... There is approx 0.4%ile difference which might show IISc attract slightly better minds compared to top IITs but the exact figures are variable and the difference is negligible...

  • @epictetus__

    @@souvik___dey__ IISc is known for research... they are always in limelight for research... Google IISc and go to news section... You will find many... Geting into a foreign university doesnot depend on you UG college in any way... there are more no. of students getting into top MS/PhD programs from SRM University than any other institutes in India... Sounds wierd no? But its true ... and even simillar no. of students from univ. like Jadavpur University and Calcutta University convert ms/phd programs in top 30 US & German schools every year but that doesnot implies that its comparable to IIT Kgp remotely r8?... Very few students from IIT (old 7) who opt for higher studies land up in Cornell, Princeton, MIT, CMU etc.. But does that prove IIT is similar to JU or CU? Academically maybe yes but on other parameters STRICTLY NO... Well this is a debatable topic frankly coz getting into metallurgy dept. of IIT Kgp made no sense to me leaving ETCE in JU and its much easier to go for higher studies in EECS from ETCE rather than metallurgy (even with IIT tag)... Due to this very reason I know many students from IITs, top NITs, IIITs, BITS, DTU and even Jadavpur getting into IISc MTech program in CS/EC rather than opting for top US schools and I also know many from VIT and SRM CS dept. converting MS admits from Caltech & U. Berkeley... Getting into IISc is only worth it if someone is not getting top 50 US universities in MS program or top 100 univ. globally in PhD(direct) with full scholarship + stipend... Below that IISc is much better....

    So you are telling like for higher degree than BTech people should always chase IISC if he gets ??

  • @epictetus__
    @epictetus__3 жыл бұрын

    @@abhikachieverofdailygoals1621 Yes if one decides to stay back and continue their higher studies in India. IISc is the Indian alternative to CalTech. IISc MTech is comparable to top 50-100 universities worldwide in engineering. However MS from top 50 university will always be better choice over IISc MTech even if they demands huge course fees. If someone is focused more on research and planning to do PhD abroad then IISc MTech will be a safe route to convert the coveted PhD offers in top universities abroad and in that case Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata is also a great option. So according to me :- 1. MS from top 50 universities 2. Direct /Integrated PhD offer from top 100 universities (if interested in that) 3. MTech from IISc 4. MTech from ISI K 5. MS from top 50-100 universities

    @@epictetus__ But brother I have heard that they do theoretical research more rather than application..So if anyone is interested to research on a current topic( ex- In Power Electronics topic related to renewables,EV ) which will help Indian industry for them IIT B , IIT M would be better than IISc?? Or it doesn't matter on institute rather depends on topic and guide ??
