How much will it cost to do phd in some branch of physics in iisc banglore?how much is the cost to do it in usa?
It looks like some people that commented watched my video "7 reasons to never do a PhD" the job thing is ridiculous... Unemployment rate is higher for masters and PhDs with no experience who are entering workforce for the first time as compared to undergrads with no experience entering workforce for the first time. Reason 8.
Thanks. I will be doing the PhD in the future, insyaallah
sir myself from trivandrum kerala did mtech in power electronics (electrical engineering) and wish to do phd in iit. could i make up for it? how should i prepare for written test and interview.
After finishing the phd does any student get money for it?
Thanks Zahid for the video. Where are you doing your PhD?
sir from where should i do phd if i m not gate qualified and net qualified... and does it make much difference in learning?
Very appreciable step Zahid. I am looking forward to more information and your anecdotes about Phd. First it was masters now as I look forward to doing Phd InI will againg be the guiding light.
A PhD severely limits opportunities in the job market, meaning you're usually stuck within one position for many years, or having to relocate to another city, if not country, if you change positions. You don't have this problem in say software which is why so many STEM PhDs give up on academia.
after doing PhD is u able to solve hard question in maths
Yes sure I am going to cover everything related to PhD into this. Just keep an eye for now and give me some time please : )
what are the jobs in india after phd other than academic?

Hi Zahid, I am very much confused about few decisions which I have to take. Need your help. I am a B.tech in mechanical engg working in a consultancy company and the customer is Rolls Royce (aero engines). Since last 2 and half years I am working for them and I really liked the job (FEA, stress analysis). Learning is there but not sure for how long it will be.I have been told that for FEA or stress analysis one should be M.tech otherwise it will be tough to grow in this field. But I dont want to be a part of consultancy company and what I have heard is in India analysis jobs are not that great, mostly repetitive work. I always wanted to do PhD but scared with the system we have in India. Now I have 3 years of experience and going for Mtech and than PhD from here will atleast take 5-6 years and I will be 32 till then. So, I am scared if I am now too late for this.I dont know how much will be the earning while doing the PhD, will it be sufficient for the survival of 3 member in family? Apart from this, as I told I am scared about the system in india for PhD. I am scared about doing Mtech also, I dont like the compulsory courses which I have to learn, even if I hate those subjects. I dont want to mug things and vomit it in exam, what I have done in Btech. In short I dont like conventional way of eduction. Right now I am taking proficiency course in IISc and I really like the course as well as the prof. But scared if the other classes in Mtech, I may have to mug up things. Could you please guide me with the queries and information I need. Thanks for your patience to read it.

I am planning to do phd in commerce.. can you say how is the career opportunities in india?
i am b. tech 2014 c. s. e passout. I dropped for 1 year but on gate exam day I met with an accident due to which exam was messed up & I didn't clear gate. Should I drop 2nd time for gate or take admission for m. tech in average college[no placement support]. My parents can support me for 2nd time drop. I still have average concepts because of my bad studying practice in b. tech.

Concerning jobs, it depends on the PHD. Doing a PHD in a STEM field is definitely a big plus, which is not the case for any PHD
I just have to ask one question and I will take whatever answer is provided: Suppose my family is financially secured and I dont care about the social and other corporate-like vantages that PhD can provide... Then why should I do my Phd??
thnx sir
Please correct it. If you do PhD, you need not know in and out of a specific field, but also on many other field which run around that. People mistake this. I have a B.E. in Civil, M.Tech in Structures and pursuing PhD in Applied Mechanics and I am well versed in Mathematics, Stellar Dynamics, Vibrations of Plates/Shells, Aircraft Control Systems, Computer Programming/Microprocessors, Statistics and Quantum Mechanics. Also in Computer Graphics. I really get disappointed when people tell If you do PhD or gonna do PhD, you learn about a [articular field. Even Governments think so. So they take Undergrads for Research and Research Scholars are pulled out.

You might know all subjects like everyone else but when it comes to a specific field you know whats up to date work in that and where the future is heading too.

Sir this video is useful. I am interested in doing Ph.D. in Yoga. I completed B.E(ECE) at Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai. Can you explain how to do Ph.D. in Yoga
Are u from india bro
Sir, After phd may I go in NASA?
I have watched the video, well done. But, I did not realize the true advantages of doing a PhD in the video-content. PhD program and doing a PhD is larger, by far, than squeezing it in a short video. Good endeavor though!
I am currrently looking for a supervisor for my PhD; wish me luck; my intended professor is very busy because he is an expert in drinking water treatment. If he is not available I will have to start looking in Postsdam but I was hoping to stay with TU Berlin.

I am asking this question because as we know such golden years will come just once in our Life....so...we must be ready for it with full power....right ?

PhD is only benefitting when you know what to do in life
I respectfully disagree with your take on PhD. An average age of starting a PhD can be between 23-27. The next 4-6 years could be worst years of your life affecting your health, personal relations, self confidence and self esteem. Very very few PhDs become professor. Most of them just die as a Post doc jumping from one country to another every 1 or 2 year. Although you are a student while pursuing your PhD, you can barely get some useful advice from your supervisor. Mostly its you who has to come up with an idea and then validate it from your supervisor. Forget about the humanity and social service through science, you will only work to get the 3-4 publications in peer reviewed journals to get the degree. No matter whats the topic because at the end of the day they will look at your list of publications and impact factor. You will not get the full credit for your work, you will have to share it with everyone who had not helped you at all getting those results. You will always have to add the names of your co-workers who didnt contribute at all in your hard work. Anther fact, PhD is the only job which requires highest intellectual labor and its mostly paid with a minimum wage roughly $1500-$2000/month. If you are working in an industry with that kinda intellectual efforts you can have the same figure with an additional 0 at the end. In short, you work more than an average employee in the university but you get paid by a student scholarship that meant to cover your living expenses only NO SAVINGS. When you will finish your PhD, you will be surprised to realize that there are only 1000-2000 people at the most who actually give a shit about your subject. Then you simply feel stupid wasting 4-6 precious years of your 20s (the most productive age) on a very very specific subject that can only guarantee you a Post doc position for a couple of years. Well not always, you can also become an engineer in some company but your chances are really really slim. Having said that I do agree with the job security you will have after the PhD. There will always be a position somewhere in the world for you once you have a PhD. You should only do a PhD if you don't have any other job.

krltoro I'm 26 and I'm thinking of getting a PhD in Data MIning. I love the idea of learning about this, but I'm really worried it will be a wast of time when it comes to getting a job. I think it might be wiser to spend that time and money getting as many certifications as I can. Companies seem to care more about certifications than they do about formal education, and there are many openings to work as professors. I'm afraid I won't be able to find a good paying job as a professor either.

totally agree. PhD is a waste of time. If you have started it - the best is to fail it and present these years on your CV as work experience. Many employers treat PhD time as work experience as long as you are on a scholarship and get paid for your time. Many employers though are biased against PhD qualification and they would not be bothered to hire you if you have no other work experience. In general, when you finish your bachelor or masters, try to find a job and build your work experience instead of wasting your time in academia. Of course, if you are lacking self confidence and want to secure a teaching position at the end of the day, go for PhD. In my view, the life with PhD is the most unsettled. You have to change your location every 1-2 year since the funding contract is time limited. Then if the government decides to cut off funding, you may end up jobless. If you work, you build work experience, get certifications, develop in your career and will always find a new job
PhD ka tamasha---- except for talented ones who are scholars and can write equations to make money (SS , not even diff quantities based ), most of the PhD wallahs are wasting taxpayers hard earned money...the 4 yrs of PhD are spent gossiping with mtech/phd girls and becoming their willing slaves and producing poor quality publications....the govt should understand that large scale research funding and increasing stipend does not necessarily mean better quality research...i am grieved to see why the level of doctoral level education has fallen so much in our country...These are the kinds of people ( again, not all )who have never qualified any qualifying examination in their whole life.
