I'm Steve Vance and thank you for coming to my channel! As a career firefighter, I have a deep desire to help others and that passion continues on through my retirement. So, using my gift of teaching, I want to share my love for technology, photography, and other subjects to make them easier for you to understand and enrich your lives as much as they've enriched mine.
In the past 5 years, my wife Janice, and I took to the RV world and have fallen in love with it! Surprisingly, all of my "experience" has come into play during this newfound past-time and been the inspiration for this channel. We all start the world of "RV", which can be stressful. But, following the guidance from others can flatten out the learning curve, and help it be more enjoyable and stress-free.
So, WELCOME, and please feel free to post any suggestions for future content that you would find helpful!

Thanks a bunch! I just bought one to test the amp draw on my camper ac and found out you have to check individual wire to get a reading. Never even crossed my mind to do this. Glad i found your video!
@@bigrig. wonderful!! So glad it helped you!!
How much for a RV that size?
It varies slightly by location due to the amount of leasing and operating expenses. But, be prepared for around $120 per foot.
Thanks, you did a much better job than some of the others.
Well, thank you very much for that compliment!!
Thank you for clarifying DI vs Soft water
@@borgimplantdan you’re welcome and thank you for watching and commenting!
great hack
Thanks! Works so great.
Do you have a video of how you put the three stages together on your filter system?
No I do not. But I do assemble, test, and deliver full systems them for those who’d like to purchase.
Excellent video. Did you discuss with Bob Moses using Bugs N All on your ceramic coated coach?
Thank you! Yes, we discussed that. The surfaces I use Bugs N All on are all XPEL PFF, so it really doesn’t matter. But nonetheless, they didn’t feel it would harm the SENSHA ceramic.
Great video. Depending upon where your coach is parked, ensuring the top of the slides are free of tree residue before retracting your slides. Also, if you are in an area that receives snow, be sure and clean the snow/ice off the top of your slides.
Thank you for the compliments, Jim! You're absolutely correct about checking your slide tops for any debris!
Steve, excellent video. I also use Sensa soap but get quite a bit more foam from my foam cannon.
Thank you, Jim! Yes, I use a pretty "lean" mixture, though, especially when using this low-end PW. Otherwise, I'd have 2 birthdays and an anniversary pass before getting all of it washed off! LOL
Thanks for posting. I've never had good luck with manual leveling. leveling in pairs and shutting the system off are game changers. 👍
Great to hear!!! Thank you for responding to let me know.
Hi Steve, it’s gang! Have fun.
👍
Wow thanks so much. I built a 3 filter bank and use a 10, 5, 1 set up. I was thinking of going 5, 1 and .5 like yours. Does the .5 give you adequate flow? I'm getting a water softener ASAP so I'm loving all the QDs you have. I'm tired of the mess of the water spilling out of my filter bank into a bin when traveling.
Thanks for watching and commenting! Yes, I get FULL flow with the .5 micron! I strongly encourage you to switch to that cartridge.
I want you to check for refrigerant gas leaks. Can a very small leak be detected?
Yes, the Amprobe is designed to detect HVAC leaks.
You said "PH" and then tested "Hardness". Those are two different tests unless you have a dual test strip. Softener aren't really intended to change Acid/ Base(PH) readings, although they might tend to show a slight coincidental change due to sodium ion exchange. Sodium bicarbonate injector ( baking soda) can change PH, but that's another device and process that's done in municipal water treatment systems. I've built a Sodium Bicarb treatment plant for a major Northeast city.
Argh. You’re absolutely right. That was a complete slip of the tongue; no idea why I said that! I always try so hard to be accurate…but blew it this time!
Very informative !! I wonder if Newell will replace the fittings when the coach is manufactured if they are asked ? Thank you !!!
Thank you for watching and the compliment. Newell is currently using DOT compression fittings for the suspension components only. Engineering will continue to use the standard push to connects for the rest of the coach. They feel using those standard of the industry fittings is appropriate and not willing to change. Obviously, it comes down to ease and speed of installation.
Thank you, I'm getting ready to go on my first adventure flat towing my f150. Very helpful
You’re welcome! Enjoy…and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be sure you’ve engaged Neutral Tow as well as supplied your Raptor with a 12v charger lead.
Great tip. Thanks for the demo.
Glad it was helpful!
Hey I noticed that in the description you wrote the EMS-PT50X but when you click on the link it actually takes you to the SSP-50X. Is there a difference? Which is better? Thank you!
Thanks for watching. I’ve checked the link and it’s correctly bringing me to the correct unit.
Hi i have same noise you found problem?
Yes, the CAC Boot was leaking.
Your list has 3 quick connects but I count at least 4 , maybe 5? With 3, I have to keep it me permanent on in side of filter and one on water softener. The 3 are then on one side of filter and softener and regulator? Do you concur? You show at least 3 - 2 on the softener and one on the filter.
The systems I design and build have many sets; ranging from 5 to 8, depending on the components put in play. The list is there as a reference and the QC come in sets of 3, so 2 packs are needed for most applications. Thanks for watching.
Why would the trans be low unless you just worked on it or a leak? Also what I got from this is check the dipstick once past 100 degrees. I would live to have one of those dance digital shifting panels like you have. I wonder if it can be installed in a Dually
Good question. Oil does have the chance to leak or dissipate on any trans, really. Shouldn’t be very much, though, and if it’s an ongoing issue, it should be looked at.
Great information, thanks for sharing
Thank you!
Excellent video!!
Thank you very much!
Awesome
Thank you!
Will your clamp measure voltage also? Your pigtail is a good idea.
Absolutely! It’s a full functioning Multi-meter and will measure AC/DC voltage, Resistance (ohms), as well as NFC for sensing live circuits!
I wouldn’t mind doing that if I had a Newell
It's definitely worth doing...really with any coach! Thanks for watching.
Steve, great video. It is amazing to me the number of people that don't use water softeners. I also put together your 3 stage water filter system that you posted a while back. I ordered all of the components that you suggested. It works very well and several people have come up to me in parks and ask what the heck is going on!! Ha. I point them to your video explanation. How about a video on importance of 4 corner weighing and adjusting tire pressures accordingly. Safe travels.
Thank you, Dan! Thanks for the suggestion on the Corner Weighing; I'll see what I can put together. Appreciate the suggestion.
Great job I run a sediment filter before the on the go and then a carbon filter and virus filters on the output to eliminate the salt and any other stuff. I also bought an inexpensive water meter to monitor usage. Rather than buy the super expensive triple filter in the metal case i bought 3 filters at home depot and three camco filter holders. More hook ups but easier to store. I use clearsource ultra filters
NICE! Yes, I run my 3-Stage before the Softener. It's gives 5, 1, and 0.5 micron filtration. Thank you for watching and the compliment!!
Awesome video. I get asked this all the time about my two units. Hope you have a great season Steve!!! Love the shirt.
THANK YOU!! And thanks for watching. All the best to you as well. 👊
I read your comments and I agree the way your are thinking (50 amp plug to another 50 amp plug). I am looking into coach 1247, It may be our next coach if it pass inspection.
Thanks for watching, but I'm not sure of what "comments about a 50 amp plug" you are referring to? Good luck on 1247!
But can it make raw water drinkable?
It’s a good question and, while 0.5 microns is known to filter out bacteria, I strongly suggest researching your specific application for the best safety for raw water filtration.
Outstanding!!
Thank you!
Is there an internal fuse for the test leads?
To be honest, I'm not really sure.. Sorry, but I don't have the manual with me.
Your Our idle, we glad you living and enjoying. Most importantly, taking the time to share with all of us money saving tips. God Bless
That’s so kind of you to say. Thank you very much; it keeps me going to know the efforts are appreciated and helping others! Blessings to you as well.
Great Job, Would love to see your depot box, love that idea

...As I write this, my wife and I are looking at ordering a 24 Newell coach. As such, i point out that for expert advice on towing, and getting the job done correctly the "first" time, may i point out NIRVC. I say this, because my wife and I plan on using their product "Retro Band" on our coach. If, you are not familiar with it, I strongly suggest you look into it. Now, as to correctly doing a TOAD. These services are offered by them as well. 1000's done, not many complaints. Just a little info. tossing out there. ScottishxPride, Tx.
Thanks for the watch and comments. I am fully aware of NIRVC, as well as their RETTROBAND product and also the TYRONs. I’m not going to enter that discussion as it is out of the scope of this topic. It’s also not a product of safety I wish to get into due to many questions and concerns which I will leave to the individual owner. As to installation, that’s not the issue of towing; On-going inspection and maintenance is! You’ll see my other video discussing this. I’ve discussed almost a dozen failures in the past year or so and they have ALL been the result of baseplate failure from fatigue and/or lack of maintenance.
Question. As my wife and I are looking at the 24/25 model (custom order), do you have pads that you've added to your jacks as I have seen on other videos? Also, if, I can trouble you. How does Newell do when taking on hills/mountains? ScottishxPride, Tx.
Hello, that's exciting news! Newells don't have jacks, they're always "on the bags" and, hence, use the VALID Leveling system. The new models have a slightly different interface, but this video gives you a good idea of how the Valid system works: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qH-Z27BuldC4d5s.html Our Newell passes any RV and truck (unloaded) out there on the grades, so I'd say that's a pretty good indication. The inarguable opinion from anyone is that the Newell, with the Cummins 605HP X15 is the king of the hills...at least in terms of the custom 45' buses. The one strong opponent would be a King-Aire, which is quite a bit lighter and would give a Newell a good run for the money up a hill. All this said, every 6%+ hill can be a struggle if you're in a hurry, no matter what. But our Newell, with the PDI Stage 2 upgrades, handles it better than the rest. Here is a real quick "first-look" I did after the upgrades: kzread.info/dash/bejne/d22Km5p-irbUXcY.htmlsi=v6FABpFMUY0tZDaj Thank you for watching and commenting!
I'm looking to pair to of the exact same generators to a different named parallel kit... its it possible? safe? will the different parallel kit work with the different named generators? AGAIN the generators ARE the exact same just the parallel kit is different... any information would be greatly appreciated THANKS!!🍻🍻🍻🍻
Thanks for watching and for your question. However, the topic is about using 2 30 amp outlets on a shoreline post for your RV to plug into. It has nothing to do with a generator(s) and, therefore, I don’t feel comfortable making any suggestions or assumptions. Thanks again.
New to RV’ing and subscriber to your channel. Thanks Steve for a good tutorial for the basics/beginners using this tool. Appreciate you taking the time to share.
Welcome, Geoff! I’m so glad you found my channel and getting useful information. Looking forward to hearing more from you…thanks for watching and commenting!
If you turn off the spigot then move your selector from city water to tank fill it will relieve the pressure in the hose.
Thank you for watching and commenting. However, Newell's ONLY run on pressurized water system from tank water, so there's no option for "city water" as you suggest. The auto-tank fill is a switch, which controls the tank fill ON/OFF only. Plus, not only is there an on-board regulator, but also a check-valve so, your suggestion won't work to dump pressure. Normally, the best we can do is try to bleed some pressure at the WYE on the spigot; but, again, with checkvalves in that outboard regulator...it really doesn't do much good.
Ahhh, learning something new every day! Thanks for the explanation.@@RVSquaredSteve
@@thecherryrvlife glad to help!
Looking forward to using your system on mine! Haven't had time to play with it all but your video answered my questions on washing and not worrying about drying. Thanks again!
Thanks, as always, for your support Simon! I know'll have great results with your system and the tips in this video. You know where to find me if I can help any further!
Nice hack - very useful!
Glad you think so! Hope you get use out of it.
Steve, this was a really interesting video. I knew that Newell provides redundant air compressors and often wondered why. I suppose having hundreds of fittings means leaks that make that redundancy a requirement.
Thanks Duncan. Actually, the reason for twin compressors is for redundancy of failure. Since Newells rely on air pressure for the BODE entry door and seals, having a functioning compressor is critical. Should one seize or have a major issue, a manual changeover switch keeps you going. Newell builds redundancy on most critical functions. Thank you for watching and commenting!
My pleasure. I was thinking that the redundancy of compressors was due to failure resulting from more runtime than a system that had fewer leaks. Either way, I love redundant systems! 🙂 @@RVSquaredSteve
@@duncanjames914 yes…you’re correct.
Wait... city water particulate was 196. Filtered was 214. Isn't that the opposite of what you want to see?
This is a huge point of confusion for many; let me explain. The meter I'm using reads TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS (TDS) and will pick up ALL minerals...including trace salts which CAN be present shortly after a softener recharge which uses salt. The TDS is NOT a measure of water hardness, which is performed with ChemStrips and ONLY measures Calcium and Magnesium. This demonstration was to illustrate the fact the two readings are entirely different and, as stated, the filter and softener system will provide micro filtration and softening, but NOT a total removal of solids. That is a job solely for a DeIonized Water Filter. I have a video about the DI filter here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKxqpMONkdWanbg.htmlsi=JryoNjstQRSgm_wB Incidentally, since posting this video, I have changed the order of the filter system to have the softener tank AFTER the 3-stage. I do this to send the purest water into the softener resin; thus making it work less and prolong its life. Hope this clarifies things for you. Thanks for watching and commenting!Incidentally, since posting this video, I have changed the order of the filter system to have the softener tank AFTER the 3-stage. Another great video. Reminds me of what I need to be doing next weekend when the temps get super low.

SHAME ON "NEWELL" AS MUCH AS THESE COACHS COST💸💸💸💸 WOW!!!
I know it’s easy to blame Newell. But frankly, these push to connect fittings are widely used in the heavy truck industry. Unfortunately, as with so many things, time will tell if they are a long range good bet or not. Keep in mind, our coach is nearly 9 years old.
Thank you for taking the time to explain a little about the pneumatics on the coach, beautiful Newell there!
You’re welcome Ross. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thought I recognized that face! Hey Steve, Eric Fox here, looking good mister, I just stumbled across your page!
WOW…HEY ERIC!!!! Happy you stumbled into me. Welcome! 😉
I have always dreamed of a Newell. In fact yesterday I was looking at a 2006. BUT I can't see why a 2 million dollar coach would use push on fittings which are known to leak. Makes my 2002 Beaver Marquis which holds air in the suspension two months before starting to lean look better all the time.A year ago I looked at a 2005 Newell that the compressor kicked on every 10 minutes. Is this normal for a Newell? Sorry to rant on Newell's BUT???
Hi Dan. Glad you're still look'n at Newells. Obviously, every coach has their weakness and, in this case, these fittings are a definite sore spot. We could all guess as to why they're used by Newell. For one, they ARE widely accepted and will "generally" be good for most applications. In the case of a Newell coach, however, the large collection of these fittings, after time, will seep just enough to cause a lot of compressor cycling. Most coaches don't use air seals for the slides, so there's nothing that needs a constant air pressure. This is where the problem is; the slide seals should be kept under pressure at all times...hence, if you have fittings in that same system that are leaking, you're gonna have short cycle times. And, yes, 10 minutes IS common, but indicates a lot of leaking. I'm up to 45. My friend's 2020 is 6 hours. And a fellow Guru with a 2014 is now at 44 hours! So, with diligence and the proper fittings, a Newell can be as tight as they come....but certainly gonna be hard to match your Beaver at 6 months!
Thanks Steve for a great video! I learn something new every time you post something up! Bought the Ampro off Amazon before I finished your video. It’s another “gotta have” tool that we need to keep these coach’s maintained!
Good job, Ken..you’ll be SO glad you have it!! Thanks for your comments, too.
