I’ve been using some industrial aviation muff-com’s for the past few years but the batteries alone are incredibly expensive and they are HUGE! We actually look like we’re wearing some 1970’s headphones with antennas! Haha The other problem with walkie-talkie’s and cellphones is the noise surrounding each operator! Screaming Kids, Barking Dogs and then the Nosey Neighbors that think you need help when you definitely don’t. Haha Yea, I’m very focused while in this mode and I only want to hear my wife’s voice instead of a Karl & Karen! I believe I’m going to look at these..! Great Topic!

BTW, my wife and I are busting up as we re-read your comments! Thanks for your humor.
We almost always use a spotter and communication devices. The one time we got lazy, well, you know the rest. Thanks for your videos. The information is excellent.

Good advice, Richard…we’ve all let our guard down “just once”. That’s what we call “experience”. Thanks for watching and the compliment!
What about when you have two motor coaches going down the road and traveling together?? what would you recommend for communication between coaches for drivers???

I recommend commercial band VHF/UHF radios; e.g. Motorola, Yaesu, Kenwood, Baofeng, etc. I, myself have a HAM license and have used dozens of handheld and mobile radios. In terms of clarity, range, and reliability nothing comes close to that type of radio. Getting a 5 watt radio gives you plenty of power to get out of a coach and reach for a 1/2 mile. Anything less power, or FRMS, is just more frustration than I care to deal with.
Thanks for this. Do you carry a measuring stick to check bow clearances when you are scouting your site?

Hi, thanks for the question. No I don’t. Not that it’s a bad idea, but at 13’3”, it’d be another specialized pole that’s harder to store and deploy. My judgment is always spot-on, even for width. But, I do have a broom handle marked for the real tight slide clearances.
I just purchased a pair of these on Amazon. They work great INSIDE our class A, but as soon as one of us walks out the door the static starts. I can't even get to the end of the RV before the static is so bad they are unusable. Lots of complains about this in the Amazon reviews, too. Not sure why I didn't see those complaints before I ordered. I'll be sending these back. Any suggestion for a better quality set?

Hi John, sorry that your set isn't working well. As ALWAYS, I am VERY leery of electronics...actually everything...on Amazon. I am convinced that a lot of these resellers have purchased "seconds" of some sort. I hope you bought a first-line set. I usually attempt to buy from the dedicated Amazon storefront of the vendor, Sena, in this case. As to your headset(s), not sure which "pair" you bought, because I'm not seeing any complaints on the Tuff-Talk Lite. I pair the Expand with the Tuff-Talk, but have used two Expands in the past. I would suspect that the Tuff-talk may have a better antenna due to its larger size. But FIRST, I ALWAYS make sure to update their firmware and then re-pair the headsets. I've not had any bad static, unless the distance is well over the coach's length. In fact, last time, one of my friends wore his all the way back to his coach, before remembering it was around his neck! ;-) As to an even higher quality headset option, the problem is, if you jump up into the commercial category, you'll well over double your cost.

For reference, John, these would be my choice if I were to "up the game" into a commerical headset. Rugged has made top gear for off-road and emergency vehicles for years. I trusted them, and have used many of their products! www.ruggedradios.com/products/rw-h30-dt?variant=32735260934240
You are costing me more money. I need to stop watching your videos. Just kidding good information. Thanks.

😂 Not the first time I’ve been accused of that. Some wives have even banned their husbands from hanging around me! But they always come back. 🤪
