I think this is positive, as long as it doesn’t threaten the Union. Devolution could help de-londonise the UK. We need to focus more on other parts of the nation, especially the north. As for the democracy argument… we could always get rid of that awful undemocratic first-past-the-post system we’ve got and actually have PM elections.

British man doing some history revisionism on his own country dark past. The discrimination against Catholics in Ireland by the English traces back hundreds of years to the penal laws. Both north and south Catholics were second class citizens. Period, any attempt to undermine that by suggesting it to be perceived, is absurd on all accounts by any reputable historian. Irish Catholics in the north faced job discrimination , housing discrimination, denial of voting rights by having gerrymandered elections so and so including going as far as having the Irish national flag criminalized. It was state oppression at its finest. and the civil rights marches getting beaten off the streets on multiple occasions by the state militia the RUC was a prime example of that. We got 18 and Mountbatten, TAL32.

Interesting video, but you might have mentioned Bristol. They had a Mayoral system for a while but then voted to get rid of it. So presumably it doesn't always work?

Poor Brits. They miss Brussels whipping them and they are too lazy to use freedom they regained thanks to Brexit. If you want to go back you better hurry up because soon the EU won’t exist anymore.

Perhaps some Lord of the House will introduce a law that will make it a criminal offence to grow old. With the death penalty as punishment. Don't scoff at this. Did anyone watch the TV series Blade Runner. Don't trust politicians plus.

Problem: There are not enough seats for politicians Solution: Let's make more Problem: councils and local authorities cannot make decisions because they disagree with each other Solution: Let's introduce an additional role to help them disagree more

a 5% increase in pay to try make up for countless lies and corruption is hilarious. I'd never ever join the army and every other young person I know will never even consider it either. The UK has only mistreated the youth.

All monopolies should be a State owned , no profit/no loss Firm . Competition improves the quality of a product ( Cars, Tv’s, Trucks, Cycles, food brands etc . A natural resource , with zero competition will decay ; as there is no competition and the customer has nowhere else to go . The French apparently call the UK ‘ shit island “ due to the raw sewage floating in the North Sea and English Channel .

Having spent many years working in the uk public sector i can say that the national civil service is almost completely useless and incompetent in almost every sector. They make decisions by spreadsheets have no connection to outcomes and make every decision to give themselves more power. The fact is almost all the bureaucratic waste is in the centre. Not to say local government does not have problems but at least they are more connected to the issues they deal with.

Not exactly, at that time the UK state sector was facing a demographic state pensions catastrophe due to increased life expectation, well up from the previous ‘three score and ten’. These changes provided a sustainable State sector for future generations whilst paying off the national debt in the decade following Thatcher’s departure.

Let Thames go Bankrupt and allow it to be renationalised they have never done anything right, the forced water meter on everyone yet still didn’t fix leaks Adequately and now that they are in money trouble the money lenders want to increase prices by 40% ofwat shouldn’t allow it it’s a rip off , and while they are on the verge of collapse they increase the ceo pay to 4 million

Thank you for this. It helped me realise what on earth the Mayoral election in my local area (East Midlands/Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire) were about. I still voted in it, but I assumed it was just a ceremonial role. Your video explained that it was not, and was actually quite important. I'll go and show this video to my family members who didn't vote because they too didn't understand the position, so they can vote as well next time.

I am really concerned about the Good Friday agreement. And I hail the Scottish for their resillience and patience. I am not sure whether the Brexiteers had factored in the Scottish independence sentiment and the Good Friday agreement. Most likely, not as they were more concerned about the dangers of the "Polish plumbers". I feel so sorry for the British youth who were semi-imprisoned on an island at the footsteps of Europe not enjoying many personal benefits of the EU that their grannies and parents had freely enjoyed between 1973 and 2022. So selfish, so heartless. I won't be surprised a bit if Scotland moves away and Ireland is reunited and "Kingdom / Queendom of England & Wales" (KEW, sounds nice) which might as well be a better prospects for future generations of the British youth. =/

As soon as I started work, I followed my banker Grandfather's advice and put in the maximum amount I could into my private pension. Given its getting topped up to 20% by my company, I feel comfortable with what I have. I am surprised many others don't do the same because its almost like they forget it reduces your income tax bill too.
