I feel like the opposite is the problem for some of them: they believe that if they just get rid of the leadership, it will patch-over what is, fundamentally, a deeply divided party on policy. At this point, anyone who COULD actually win the premiership in a party election would be practically unelectable in the general. Rishi will stay the PM until then, as much for the desire to not put Braverman in front of a hot mic again, as anything else.

Risky Soon-Out will hear the death knell of his government as millions of UK people vote against the government in the local elections. The police force is underfunded and broken. We have no UK National Guard to get the marchers off our high streets. The NHS which should be a National Healing Service is underfunded and propped up by subcontracting to private healthcare. Central funding to local councils has been reduced. they can't even afford to properly fix the potholes in the roads. And so on . . . .

What has changed is voters are no longer interested in just words and promises. From now on only results will convince voters that politicians are worth supporting. That's bad news for both the Tory's and Labour. They are basically identical now and both descended from New Labour. They still have to keep up the pretense of Labour being caring and compassionate, and the Torys of being tough and decisive. The truth is that's all just for votes, they don't believe that stuff anymore, they are just a bunch of career politicians.

Correct! I joined the Apathy Party some time ago after watching would be President Blair and the charismatic (cough) Brown on the one hand followed by Brexit destroying call-me-Dave, then the years of farce and Tory in fighting culminating in today's shambles. Many years ago an Independ ant candidate stood for the "Disillusioned Tory....Labour? no thank you!" party which neatly sums up my choice not to support any of them.

My choices were the “Conservatives” (who’ve betrayed everything they stood for and everyone they represented), Dems (who, in my area are just all about putting up ANPR cameras, raising taxes and doing FA), Labour (who cannot even define a woman and sees slyrocketing crime as cultural enrichment) and the Greens (who… Christ has anyone seen the awful state of Brighton? As an American, I cannot understand the desire for more conservative in-fighting from some of their MP’s. Nothing erodes public confidence in a party’s leadership capacities like self-inflicted turmoil, and that’s exactly what the Tories would get if they forced out yet another PM of their own. It’s best to just ride out with Sunak and accept they had a long run that must eventually come to an end, and shift focus to being an effective opposition to regain support and bounce back quickly. Nothing is going to save their party from getting clobbered at the next election, but trying to fight the tide will only make it worse. Ironically at home the Republicans risk doing the exact same thing by considering ousting our Speaker of the House again, inviting more needlessly bad optics for the GOP right as the 2024 elections are coming up.

I went to vote earlier in the local elections, I was the 60th person to vote this was in the evening and there are about 1,000 people eligible per polling station, turn out of the less than 10% the officer said in the polling station, worse than normal, our area is a close battle between Lib Dems and Labour in terms of the council. The officer said 'people don't seem to think local election matter, MP's are higher ranking than councillors, but councillors actually do a lot the affect people's everyday lives more so in many ways than MP's do, so it's important people vote'.
