  Seen the movie 6 goddamn times and this part still brings tears to my eyes....which is even sillier when you think that Paul is doing nothing more than following a plan laid down by others long ago...a Bene Gesserit plot. He would bring death and suffering to Billions of people....Billions. And he couldn't bring himself to lead mankind on the golden path...his son had to do it. And when you figure out what the golden path is...Basically mankind's slavery to a Worm God Thing for 3,000 years and the stifling of freedom and expression....was mankind's survival really worth the price? Still doesn't take away from the power of this moment....Brilliant movie...can't wait for 3.

  This is partly because we were raised in the Abrahamic religion and believe in the messiah, that one person can lead others to accomplish great things! I was always inspired by the moments when Jesus spoke with some Rabbi who doubted that he was Mashiach and he said, "I saw you when you were praying under a tree and that Rabbi falls to his knees and says - "Ravi"!" Of course, these are fairy tales, but they seem to be speaking that a person can change his mind and become different, that he is not completely dry like the sands of the Dune.😄

  @@shaixalyd6681 Yep, agreed...turned my back on Religion long ago, but its still moving to see the power of Religion in action sometimes....I think it's very funny that the kid we are cheering in this scene...is the instigator of a holocaust far worse than anything seen by mankind (Maybe even worse than the Butlerian Jihad) but it's impossible not too...As you intimate, its fun to root for the 'Messiah'. Frank was a Goddamn genius.

  @@unnamed6419 Yep, and that's what I ponder.....Billions of life forms have gone extinct on this planet alone, who knows how many more in the history of the cosmos....was Genocide and slavery too high a price to perpetuate the species? Most I'm sure would say any price should be paid to keep mankind going...but in a philosophical musing, I'm just not all that sure. I suppose at the end of the day I would agree, not wanting the light of mankind to be snuffed out, and maybe a species has to pay that sort of price to perpetuate into infinity....who knows. All I do know for certain is that Frank's books are a treasure and the new movies are brilliant. Thankful I lived this long to see this latest movie and hope I make it to 3. :)

  lmao. The movie is set 20.000 years from now with humans having different cultures. The Fremen have some of the culture INSPIRED by Islam (and other things). Their faith is being EXPLOITED by bad actors (which acted for their own survival, but still in deception). The vocabulary is also inspired but not 1:1 because 20.000 years passed so complaining about the meanings is pointless. And more importantly, the theme of the book is about false prophets, which Christianity, Judaism and Islam all warn against. Try to be a bit open minded.

  ​@@patrologos I mean, sheesh theres to many examples in the English language since its literally a melting pot of shitloads of other languages. Like slang of other languages became our dialogue. But idk, "Mors" means death in latin, "more" in english. Umbra- the shadow, shade, ghost im sure you use Umbrellas... you like using those ghosts to cover you from the rain? most words in english come from other places, and there are some pretty wild overlaps in general. You could probably write an entire paper on this said topic honestly.
