Actually studies also showed that sitting a lot is only bad if it‘s on static comfy chairs like on a desk or a couch in front of the tv. If you sit and you need to constantly use your muscles to balance sitting like playing with both legs it‘s not so bad. All the indigenous people also sit a lot during the day, but not on seats, they sit on the ground or wooden logs or something like that wich is not unhealthy. The comfy seats are the things that are unhealthy not the sitting per se

It's been Pedialyte for me during the gig, I eat afterwards, usually don't eat anything 6 to 8 hours before the performance. IBS makes you adjust a few things.

oh shit he plays the drums! Drumming and nutrition are also my passions. I find that a Ray Peat sort of high sugar diet is awesome for death metal drumming. I tried low carb and I wasn't nearly as fast and my endurance sucked. Glycogen is what you need for fast, endurance drumming

Hello, I’m a 15 year old drummer. I’ve been playing for about 2 years now, my drum teacher told me not to build muscle because it slows me down. He gave me an example saying “when you are playing the drums your wrists are like a straw, they are easy to bend. But when you build muscle you are turning that straw into a wood. And it isn’t as easy to bend causing you to lose speed.” (he is overweight if it has anything to do with this) he says he lost some weight and tried building muscle and at that time he lost speed which took him a long time to gain back. he told me if you’re gonna build muscle you have to practice 5-6 hours of stick-control daily. So I thought maybe stretching would help (I also have pain in my back for some reason so that’s a factor too) and prevent me from losing speed but I came across your video “Drummers do not stretch” and I’m really confused now. What exactly should I do to maintain my speed and solve my back pain problem & build muscle and lose weight?

If you grow muscle and continue playing drums, it will ABSOLUTELY NOT slow you down. A day after exercise you may not some fatigue but it will go away.

Which one of these exercises would benefit me the most and how often should I practice them? It would be cool if you could make a video demonstrating the technique for us heel-toe players🤘🤘🤘thank you.

I've definitely experienced my brain "combining" (for lack of better word, the opposite of "differentiating" as stated in the video) my limbs when playing beats. For example, playing a common 2-4 beat does not feel like 3 limbs doing different things, but rather they all feel like they are doing 1 movement in coordination with each other. While that "combining" may be more efficient for the brain, it seems to work against getting to be an advanced drummer. I can'e see how poly-rhythmic drummers can improvise without their brain 100% differentiating between all their limbs. A good next video would be to go more in depth on how to "force" the brain to differentiate limbs, rather than "combine" limbs into a single movement (simplifying here but hope you know what i mean).

A lot of very interesting stuff. I can clearly see how it relates to the experience I have had as (always) a drummer and later getting my masters in classical percussion. An interesting thing I have come a cross and correlates to this is an perceived actual positive effect on drumming from learning how to spin sticks/things in between my fingers (on both hands). I figure it has separated the "pathways" to every finger to develop neurologically and not only physically the way I previously thought about it. Another thing is the different ways of learning and there are a lot of different opinions among educators, some even argue there is no such thing as a "visual" or "physical" learners. From my experience getting rid of bad habits and learning some insane (my specialty) modern percussion solos, there is mainly one, not so secret, way of doing it. It's mainly a mater of the numbers of "good" repetitions vs "bad" repetitions. How ever you get more/only the good ones "in the bank" is a valid way of learning. Slowing down, breaking it down, learning it backwards, using sheet music, etc. Popular quotes like "Perfect practice makes perfect performance" has some level of scientific truth to it (there are some very interesting studies/papers on this) but is obviously neglecting other mental aspects of performance situations. Another quote is "Amateurs practice until they can get it right. Professionals practice until the can't get it wrong." Implicating that that way of practicing is mainly for the "next level" stuff and maybe not for everybody.

That's kinda dumb to play bare footed, it's like walking in life barefoot. The metal of the base drum will damage your foot as your pushing or striking, cause your not going to play flat footed. Dumb video. Go get a beer with the view I gave you. DUMB

I'm an industrial engineer and we had a semester on human anatomy and ergonomics; so having proper ergo is also going to make sure you're not hurting yourself. I used to like my toms flatter (that's how the drumfluencers play) but it isn't good for your wrists, arms, or tendons while playing! My speed and accuracy are improved with theb proper angles plus I'm not hurting myself.

I got a bigger electronic drum set recently, but although it's bigger and an old flagship (td30) , its rack feels maddeningly restrictive as to where you can place things: 1. the bigger ride cymbal actually feels a bit of curse cos fitting it without too much annoying tom overlap is a pain I didn't have with td12 . 2. I tried to make the positioning of toms as close to the reality of an acoustic but you cannot slide the top 2 toms across- is a weird ball and socket thing coming out of rack. I also tried to leave space for a double pedal between snare and hat, but it is leaving a gulf between the snare and hat. I'm not sure if this hat - ride distance is the primary cause of increased strain in my right shoulder or if it's just a non ideal ride position/height... Do you think trying to put left double pedal to left of hi hat would help that by reducing the distance right hand has to travel? The rack is already so opened out and the hat is really crammed right next to the bar. The kit also came with a second floor tom too but in reality I don't know how to move round to that in a pleasant feeling way...I can't put them all in completely straight line as immovable cymbal stand and tom fastenings get it the way. It's basically a table😅
