Hi Jackie im practicing and practicing but cant get the hang of this. The misty effect and the first wash is not as easy also timing for wetness of paint for blurry trees is key. And I cant seem to get the depth or darkness, i follow step by step but it looks nothing like yours. Its no way as dark and overworked. I can do the trees tho so thats something. Pse could you break down the steps a bit more sorry

In all the tutorials they make it sound so easy but I tried for hours and just don't manage and just want to cry at this point because I suck so hard at something that looks so easy.

Just discovered your channel via Emma lefebvre…I live on the coast of Australia and love the beach…not many mountains around here…but I’m hoping to use your mountain techniques in miniature to improve painting my beach rocks and cliffs. Also some wishful thinking mountain misty paintings 😀

Hi Lauren! So glad you decided to join me over here. I hope you get what you’re after with your rocks and cliffs. I love cliffs; I’ll have to think about painting those too. I believe you can paint a misty scene! 🌲

I found you on Emma’s page this morning. I am looking forward to learning more from you. Thank you for sharing. I also like to not have to mix colors. I never seem to make enough and never get the color correct on second try. Thank you again.

Ummm... I can say I started drawing before I wrote... When I grew I drew in the time gaps that I found between writing, scribbling on paper... And now it's the most cherished part of me... I am all over the place in terms of mediums too...i relish hyper realism..But I love water color due to the layers that it gives... A sort of abstract exactness if that makes any sense... It allows me to be free... And dwell in nature or structures... Being there and not being there.. I tried this today, added couple of more warmer and cooler hues... Turned out great... Would love to go in more detail or forms of this. Thanks for sharing

Ok, so you say you don't draw, but then you dive right in with a pen or marker right off the cuff. If drawing is hard for you, then perhaps allow yourself the luxury of using a pencil. That way you can use depth of shading, sort of like adding water to a color and spreading the edges, but in reverse. Start light then darken. Anyway, bold little doodles with pens that leave you no room for error.

I feel you on the work and setting aside time for taking care of life to finally squeeze a bit of time for painting & drawing. I like a number of your sketchbook pieces. You pull off the mist and tree pieces so nicely... very organic. Have a great day! I hope you can find the time to fill the rest of that book up!

Jackie, I looove your paintings and we’re twins in mentality. I’m also very hard on myself and recently I haven’t picked up a brush in about a week and yesterday when I started painting I had a feeling that I forgot how to paint 😂😂😂 it took me over 2 hours to get in the flow. So I feel you on that one 😊

It’s challenging to find a good tutorial on coniferous trees where the trees look realistic. This video is a great video to learn how. There’s some ugly and gnarly old spruce trees in my neighborhood that I want to master but it’s proving to be quite hard to get right. My efforts always look artificial.

And I think o saw something about what type of tape. I’m just using painters tape. People do use heat on it, but I personally never do. I remove the tape carefully when the pieces are important to me. But mostly I don’t actually use tape. I prefer blocks and if using a single sheet, I will wet both front and back of paper if starting out with wow technique.

Gosh I can't remember when I fell in love with art; I've always done it! My love of art was passed onto me by a family member and that helped kickstart my development, but I've always been looking to improve since I was a wee kid. My love of history also heavily tied in with art. I got a lot of inspiration from museums as a child and I still do today. The techniques of the old masters have always fascinated me, so I tend to work in very archaic styles. In fact, I recently completed an A1 portrait using the chiaroscuro method of Caravaggio!
