Golden Comets are sweet birds. My chickens used to love me feeding them snails I picked from the flowerbeds...until July, then they wouldn't eat them anymore, their flavor must change.

I had a beautiful black chicken named Jemima. She loved being a mama. And I must say I learned so much from her. She was so smart and one summer had two sets of babies. The first set produced 5 chick's all yellow and one black, the were so much fun to watch grow up. I really did not expect her to have yet another brood, but she did toward the end of October. Pretty late around these parts of the mountains. I had a feeling they might not make it to hatch as the nights got pretty cold early that fall. I had my neighbor boy build a little house around where she laid them, as I was so worried about the plunging temperature, and she would not let anyone go near her eggs. She had laid 12. She was relentless as she sat on her babes, I had to bring her food and water, as she was so tenacious about not leaving them alone. Finally, after Thanksgiving came and went she abandoned the nest for the barn. All 12 eggs had frozen solid. 😢 Her mama love was beautiful, and I know she would have stayed and gave her life for those chicks had she not been persuaded to the warmth of the barn. ❤ How I love the simple pleasures and lessons country life offers. 😊 Thanks, friend Melinda, for sharing your lovely feathers family. ❤

My Boston Terriers are watching intently 😁 Maybe you said this ( my fan was muffling the sound). Guineas are great for tick management. I’m getting close to buying a home with an acres of land, so I may get some.
