Hard UNduro

Hard UNduro

G'day, Al and Furz here. We are two weekend warriors - installing, riding and testing all the parts that will get us out and riding a little easier, or for a little longer. This is Hard UNduro because we are as UNduro as it gets. We have both been riding dirt bikes for over 20 years and have been tinkering with them throughout. We are not pro riders, nor mechanics. This channel is our attempt to provide videos that we have searched for ourselves, including installing aftermarket parts, reviewing and testing some of our favourite additions to dirt bikes, and in large part our journey with a 2024 Beta Xtrainer 300. If you are like us, then come along for the ride and we hope you learn something, or at least you come and take the piss out of us in the comments. We hope you too get out on your 'mental health machines' as often as we do!

    I bought a 22MY XT thinking it would be my perfect bike, I'm 5'9" and around 168lb. I trail ride, single track that ranges from difficult to fast flowing. I gave it a shot but just couldn't get on with the breathless power delivery, found the small frame size uncomfortable ergonomically, the suspension was fine in slow stuff but hitting stones etc on faster tasks it was harsh and unforgiving. I started with exhausts, power valve springs, jets etc trying to make it feel like a proper 300 2t, mostly that worked out ok. By this time i knew it just wasn't the bike i was hoping for and the frame size was always going to be just too small. I decided not to spend a lot money on the suspension and traded it for a standard 23MY RR300. I put a skid plate and some radiator guards on the RR and i love it, Just as much if not more bottom end, but a lot more mid and top should you wish to use it, power delivery is easy to control. Frame size is larger, much more comfortable. The suspension is just so much better, still feels compliant going slow but absorbs hard hits much better. So many riders buy XTs and then spend a fortune on them, unless you are seriously vertically challenged or on limited budget (You might spend more on the XT in the long run) I'd never advice buying an XT over an RR. There really isn't that much difference in the heights, I'm 5'9” 60yo and not even an averagely talented trail rider and i can cope fine (I have an EXC200 which is much taller so maybe when i get on the RR it feels lower) Interesting review though, thanks for the content.

  • @HardUNduro
    @HardUNduro18 күн бұрын

    Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, I agree with a lot of what you mention. ALs stock bike suspension is partially ok in slow but any speed its terrible hence why I modified the other Xtainer suspension and its a world of difference everywhere. Once modified, Furz bike felt a lot more powerful and responsive everywhere. Everyone I've spoken to says the 15% smaller frame and seat height gives a lot more confidence when riding, which is huge. I would have my 2020 ktm 300 (half tbi/tpi) over the 300RR. I didn't really like the RR geometry and cockpit. Having said that we're going to review the new 300 XPro beta that replaces the RR soon so stand by for that, it may change my mind. Each to their own though, and as long as we all get out on whatever bike we have, that's the important thing. Hope you get some sunshine soon 🌞. Cheers 👍👍💪💪

    I ride pretty much only snotty stuff in Victoria's Otway region. All the manufacturers represented in my riding group. The carby bikes definitely run out first in my experience whether that's the ktm, betas or sherco. The injected bikes do get a bit more ks ( obviously the fuel capacities are all slightly different ) but 70 ish ks seems to be close to or empty for all bikes in that environment.

Took some time to find good fork settings, too. 110mm oil level, springs for my weight, clickers,l soft, bleed the air sitting on the bike...i may try 10wt on the comp leg next. No xtrainers available in Texas when I bought. At 5'9" I would have liked to sit on an XT! I fell a lot at the start, cause i couldn't touch easy. • @HardUNduro
    @HardUNduro2 ай бұрын

    Hi Roberto. I have done that on all my last few bikes but not yet on the Xtrainer. I've heard that the Xtrainer Samco hoses and thermo delete weren't quite fitting correctly but they may have updated them now. I believe if your climate is extremely cold it's best to keep the thermo installed. If you climate is medium/hot etc I like to delete them. I like to have a fan but we ride more extreme slow. The strainer fan barely comes on anyway, seems it's a fairly cool engine. No harm deleting it if you really want it out of the way . Hope this helps, thanks for watching. 🙏🙏🙏💪
