Hello, I'm Sarah Ensign! I'm a hand lettering artist and creator of Ensign Insights where I teach hand lettering. I started hand lettering during a difficult time in 2016 as a way to remind myself how to be happy. I'm passionate about helping you create hand lettering that feels like your best self.
In 2021, I experienced extreme burnout. I started a hand lettering journal simply to make it through each day. It has been an amazing creative outlet and a tangible way to use my hand lettering to feel like my best self!
I can't wait to share more about a hand lettering journal to inspire you to create your own!
Remember, the way you create right now is exactly where you need to be. You're doing great. :)

I have these in my cart on amazon LOL. Thanks for the review!
This video was very helpful. Thank you!😊
What is name of the marker
How you get this calligraphy style
Please do a 1 or 2 or 3 month update to show how the durability of the tips!!
I just bought the bullet tip ones today. I have this wood sign kit for about 3 years my daughter gave to me for Christmas. I am not good painting with acrylic paints and brush, get it everywhere it’s not supposed to be. Saw these and thought I wonder how they wood work. Well I so far I am impressed they make painting wood cutouts so easy. I just wished they had a brown in the colors but I will make do.
To help prevent washi tape, masking tape etc from sticking, I always stick them onto fabric first so they’re not as sticky/get fibers stuck, I use watercolor paper, so it’s noticeable when the tape rips pieces off the paper, this trick has worked well for me for years
That’s just what I was going to say.
I received a glass pen set for my birthday and have yet to use it but after watching your video I will start using and practicing with them. I gave both mixed media and water color papers. Other than writing with them are they good for drawings too? Enjoyed your calm voice and the video.
Do you need to wait for them to dry before layering different colours and be careful about putting down colours right next to each other?
Find things that make you excited and happy to live
Very useful tips on supplies to have. Thank you so much for sharing!🌹🌹🌹😊❤️❤️❤️
I always end up so discouraged when I compare myself to others. I won't be doing that anymore because I love Calligraphy too much to end up quitting because I'm not good enough
It's definitely less of a sketchbook and more of a journal, but with some artistic liberties. So we must creative a new term, a letteringbook! (Ok, that sounds dumb.)
These are so fun!!! I love them!!
I think sketchbook, art journal, creative journal or even art book could be good descriptive names for this! But at the end of the day, it is what you want it to be! (The OG name you gave it, hand lettering journal is also perfect!)
Oh oh more traditional artists struggle with the fear of ruining a good sketchbook, too! We have to just learn to let go, and be okay with our mistakes. Whether its journaling or sketching or whatever else, the books we use are for creativity~
Yes!!!
Brush tip isn't that good , you would probably love the bullet tips.
Love it 😍 ….. thank you Sarah ! …
Can you please tell mw about the neon pens? Im sorry I know you said but I'm a little hearing impaired. Thank you!
This is so cute, fun and full if ideas, and you just pulled at my heartstrings.( I always use EVERYTHING to the end)!!!❤
Never a true marker style girl, I have fallen head over heels for THESE!!! No priming, no breakdown of tip to start them, no horizontal storage, they're creamy, vibrant, opaque and just an overall JOY to work with!!! ❤❤❤ I hope they expand the color choices and nib styles of this line and soon!!! As a mixed media artist, for mark making and detail work, they currently rank #1 on my hit list, knocking POSCA down a peg. Way to go Sharpie!!! ❤😊❤
yay! more pens we can afford! ty for the review. now, hope they come to stores as open stock too.
Just bought these today! My sister loves them for doodling and i love them for lettering!
How do they smell tho. Sharpies give me a headache
I happened upon your book and your KZread channel a while back, completely independently of each other (and I'm not even sure which one I found first), but I had no idea that you were the one who created this book! That's exciting! Congratulations on your success because I found your book in a regular brick-and-mortar chain store. I'm a teacher and now that it's summer, I'll actually have time to sit and practice these techniques. I can't wait!
Stick the tape first on your clothes to make it less sticky.... That way it shouldn't rip your paper...
I'm so glad I watched this video (as if there is a video, made by you, I don't love watching :-))))! And especially since I received an offer to buy Sharpie Creative Bullet tip set in my email by a local supplier almost immediately after that. What??? Sharpie Stained is impossible to find in Bulgaria and almost impossible to find in Europe (or at least as far as my shopping opportunities go), so I watched the video somewhat regretting I'd never been able to buy this. But now I have them and they are exactly as wonderful as your review presents them. A real gem and I can't wait to try them on different surfaces.
I think for me I tend to go with the ohuhu fineliner/brush tip, a small set of pentel, a pencil, some varation of a detail pen, and my sketchbook since I like to test ideas or do mini thumbnails while traveling. That way I am refreshed for when I get back :)
I was holding off intil I saw why people DOlike them and your reasons are fine with me.
Perfect example! Thank you ❤❤❤
I got a the five pack of the brush tips! They’re honestly so pigmented and are so fun to use for detailing. I killed my yellow but other than that, they all work perfectly!
Are they lightfast?
Soothing to watch these being written and feels pretty lovely 🥰
WHAAAAT, I love thissssssss. Do you know if they work in textile surfaces like the brush one do?
Very nice & extremely helpful. Do you have a video with the entire alphabet with capitals?
Yes! Right here: kzread.infor6xtneF1QI0?si=jGf7I8bxTW8t1Yjh
@@EnsignInsights THANK YOU!
Bought them a couple weeks ago and 5/12 of them ran out of ink. Besides that, they’re great! I called Sharpie and they’re giving me a free replacement!
I am obsessed with the raw ink texture when applying them. So watery and satisfying but some how have an acrylic/gel texture to them. Obsessed!
When my caps crack I use tape to "fix" them. It looks horrible but it works ok so you might want to try to have the markers last longer
Your sketchbook is whatever you want it to be. Mine is for images but has pages of notes on layout and related topics. Anyone who makes things is an artist, I spin and knit, and on good days I make art. Try to see the empty page as a possibility.
Have you tried MALA markers from IKEA? They have the same tip as Crayola markers, but sturdier. You don't have to twist the marker all the time to achieve thin upstrokes.
I love this! ❤ watching your videos always inspires me to create.
Have you reviewed and compared Sailor Shikiori brush pens to other brush pens like Tombow Duals water-based?
Do you have a demo on thinner paper? Only because I trust you with pen tests.
Are going to do a white battle with this bullet, Gelly Roll, Uni signo broad, white prisma premier pencil, posca, etc.?
omg this is very helpful😮😮
Liked and subbed ❤❤ Use a hairdryer or heat gun on the tape when removing it. The heat melts the sticky stuff and makes the tape peel off like butter, with never any damage to the paper!!
I was really impressed with the quality of these markers when I tried them. I really hope they add more colors as the selection right now is a little too limiting for regular use.
