The vocal doubling in Dune and Donnie Darko, do you know the technique?

You just do not ever want to hard pan ANY vocal hard left and right. Do not do it. Some great tips in this video but don't do that. Any serious mastering engineer will tell you to go and fix that part of the mix. There's ways of widening it without ebbing so extreme.

...ahhh let's talk about "D-VERB" would have been even cooler 😂 - and my favourite reverb trick is: De-ess the vocal-send really hard above 2k, that will smooth out the top end of the reverb,... unless you are going for that 80s vibe sparkly shimmer!🤓 >>> 4:36min
@RoyThompsonAudioАй бұрын
That’s really funny. I love d-verb! Great tip about deessing. I’ll have to try that 2k boost-I’m usually afraid of that harsh range!!

@RoyThompsonAudioАй бұрын
This might be better solved by singing the vowel sound a little differently. Sometimes you can pull out a little 2 kHz with a dynamic EQ to wrangle in the harshness.

Love using mono double Dbl Same technique that Ben Folds uses for a lot of his songs. It just adds that extra "punch" to vocals- especially when a track is really layered like in a Folds song.

This is the best tutorial on mixing I ever needed.! Sadly I use audacity but been I’ve come to make my vocals sound good but everyone kept saying my voice never set right in the song like it’s hard to hear, after apply the technique I needed from this video I sent a song to a few friends and they all said it’s the best mix I ever done and they can hear me clearly . I can’t afford a good program, mic, or studio sessions so this is a great feeling like a game changer. I feel confident in music but my mixing was what always gave me anxiety

Great video, so informative. Just one question as I'm new to this, so I record my own harmonies, which means I would stack my vocals in mono right. Thanks
@RoyThompsonAudio3 ай бұрын
Mono harmonies sound great. They’ll mesh with the mains more like a duet. But there are no rules. Stereo harmonies and a mono main will make for a more expansive sound.

I just bought the VMS mic and I love it, but I need to know where you insert Melodyne when using the VSM software. VSM goes on top of the vocal track, so does Melodyne go above it or below it?
@RoyThompsonAudio4 ай бұрын
For me, pitch correction is always first, especially Melodyne.

Bro - Thanks for clarifying all these editions finally. The Essential edition can only pitch correct like free auto tune plugins that come with DAWs? That's it? Who would pay 99$ for that when most DAWs can do it (even my Reaper has auto tune plugin)

Very good tips on doubling. I tried a simple double today but it came out pretty muddy sounding, not crisp. Is that common for doubling? I use Audacity and a Blue Yeti.

I've heard in many songs they add another same track (what you call Double Vocal track) in different pitch most probably a step low. The complete vocal will be in a step lower scale. Will be helpful if you explain that. Thanks.
