I'm a Catholic British/Irish medieval enthusiast who likes to play instruments and write and sing songs about times gone by, often accompanied by my beloved wife.
I am a translator of the Scandinavian languages in my day job, but have a special penchant for the Old Norse language and medieval Scandinavian history. This will make up the bulk of my songs, but I hope to write songs in a variety of old languages.
If you like what you hear and would like to learn a bit of medieval history through song, please consider subscribing!

The one saved Europe for the first time under the invasion of a “mild” religion.
I am glad I found your channel. I appreciate the work you put into these videos. I am a descendent of Charles Martel. I cherish my Teutonic heritage. I cherish Christianity.
How is translated in old Swedish the phrase: the real capital of Greece is Constantinople?
In this day and age when men like Charles the Hammer are desperately needed, not only in Frankia but throught the Continent, the creation of this inspiring song is not just a work of art but a valuable contribution to our peoples.
Which language is this
Mid-late Old West Norse
The Franks/French were protected by themselves and were the strongest force in Europe. If Muslim invaders couldn't go through Spain again they had no chance at conquering old France even if Spain suddenly disapeared.
Amazing and Wonderful Masterpiece! I love frankonish, Old High German and all old and new Germanic languages so much. The word Kuning is so lovely 😍😍😍
Great song as always! I have an interesting suggestion: Take Marie it is whil summer ilast and expand the song with more verses in Middle English I think that'd be epic
Great, thanks !!!
Awesome. How did you learn Frankish though? Is it just looking for an archaic version of modern Dutch words or what?
small correction. In addition to Russia and Little Russia, the Old Russian state and Kievan Rus included the lands of present-day Belarus (Minsk, Pinsk, Brest, etc.) and part of the lands of eastern Poland
3:29 "sigikamf" sounds like two German words, two very politically incorrect ones, lol.
Beautiful! But shouldn't herr mannelig be translated as mister manly(manlig)? Like karlakarl is a real man's man. Or maybe He-man. :)
If Trump wins....can you do a Trump victory song in Gothic? That would be badass!
We are about to have a similar moment in American politics. Trump will lose big but his supporters? Not sure if people will be going home crying or EXTREMELY angry.
My foes: malding. Me: skalding.
Chuckled
Santiago y Cierra
Tis’ but another bangr m’lord!
The first cougar we see here! 😂
i blsame miracle aligner for being able to understand about 40% of this song
🏴❤️⚔️👍🏻
As a German I could understand all words 😊 Þankaz. Thank you for making this, it sounds similar to Old High German 🎉😊 I love old languages and the etymology too. Thanks for making this amazing video. Your voice is perfect, I just want to hear it again ❤ It's a master piece 😍🎵
Extaordinary 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
As a french who have lived in a town near the place where Charles died, I'm proud to hear this masterpiece. Well done, great bard !
Merci beaucoup!
Nice
Poor Troll lady. Lying is not the way.
nice man, great song☦
It is too fast! Try getting the same speed as Ronnie James Dio in "Heavy Metal Xmas".
My teen daughter just found your channel and loves your music. It is an added joy to see that you are Catholic as well. Just a thought to consider - your profile picture may lead women and teen girls into the temptation of lust and as a Catholic man I assume you would not want to do that, so it would be worth a profile picture change to protect the opposite sex from the occasion of sin.
This is amazing! Would you be willing to do a song in Gothic about St. John of Gothia?
do you plan to do a song on William the Conqueror in Norman ?
Considering it! Despite my intense dislike of the Norman conquest, it should probably be done at some point ;-)
Thank you for this song! Very interesting setting.
Is this reconstructed music or modern themed music? I'm still learning the distinction lol
Modern themed music :-) but the lyre was used in mediaeval Scandinavia so it's not a million miles away
@@SkaldBard cool! thanks for the response!
You should make a song about St. John the Goth
I like one song about of King Vortiger and the dragons omen in Old English.
Should do Rolandskvadet in Frankish
👌 Excellent as always
I wonder, if the French nation kept this tongue, would the Normans have spoken it and English been High Germanized instead of Romanized?
That would certainly be a very interesting scenario
The French nation as in the area of modern day France? Because they never spoke Frankish at any point, only the Frankish nobles and elite. The descendents of the Franks and the Frankish language are Low Franconians(Dutch)and High Franconians(German)hence why this also sounds Germanic, because it is. The Normans wouldn't have adopted Frankish, simply because Frankish wasn't spoken by the population of "west Francia".
@@Enbdhhdu8e3 I'm saying what if there was an alternate history where commoners adopted the nobles' language. Like, if Old French died and all it's speakers swapped to Frankish.
@@servantofaeie1569 Then the chances of The Benelux and modern day France being a singular country or even the Holy Roman Empire including France within it because it would also be made out of germanic states by language and thus also not being destroyed in 1806.....idk, there's a chance western Europe of today would just be the HRE lol. Its a fun speculation but it would have shifted history quite a bit.
A very underrated hero of Christendom
Another Old Germanic language that slaps melodicaly. Nicely done!
Saving this to my Deus Vult playlist.
Another great banger from Skaldic 🤘
Great song skald, maybe now song about Reconquista
Got one of those planned :-)
Do Rolandskvadet in Frankish, that would be so cool
Hi Mate, I use a dumbphone and I would like to download a whole bunch of your tracks to be able to listen to when I am out and about. Is there anyway I can do this? will provide many shekels
Haha, thanks for the support, mate. My songs can be bought on Amazon and downloaded and ripped to your phone the old-fashioned way! Respect for the dumbphone btw
@@SkaldBard Nice one, I don't want to take the p*** but I don't use amazon - can I pop you £50 on your getmeacoffee link with an email address for a folder of mp3s?
My first time hearing Frankish! It was so interesting learning the sound shifts which were very similar to High German, which surprised me as Wikipedia and Wiktionary treat it like the direct ancestor of Dutch. How much of this was reconstructed and how much is actually attested? In other ways it seemed pretty conservative, like putting "ist" at the end of a sentance like Latin with "est" and Persian with "ast"!
Mostly attested, just a couple of words here and there and a few modifications from OHG
Good as always keep it up brother✊🏻
Based.
Incredible! Your knowledge of archaic languages is truly impressive. Please create more songs in Old English, and also some in Old French!
Got some ideas for Old French, and naturally will be more Old English to come! Thanks for the support!
As a Dutchman this reads and sounds very familiar.
