When my workspace was the hallway of my tiny 2+1, 40m2 apartment I used hand tools only plus a drill. You can make a lot with a couple hand planes, couple saws, some chisels, a drill. Now that I gave the space, I have some power tools, but still in use hand tools whenever possible. So much nicer to not worry about wearing a dust mask and making noise.

I too live in a townhouse community. You'd be surprised how understanding your neighbors can be. This is because eventually they too will have to have some work done like having new flooring installed. This can take days of cutting with a loud miter saw. So far so good for me and my neighbors.
@bob_ombthreat64523 күн бұрын
I get it, you’re doing the social media influencer “thing;” so the formula is to extend the smallest amount of effort put into valuable content and stretch out the time it takes to convey it here. But, the title “dealing with tool noise in townhouse etc etc” contained basically you doing a db test outside your garage as tools ran. You talked about “tool location” like 5 different times in the video, mind blowing news. “Bribe neighbor with tool lending or projects” was literally the only useful thing I got out of this. Maybe a test or exploration of insulation and or soundproofing with some buying ideas? No, instead we get, “if you’re stuck in a lease.” Well gee I hadn’t thought about just moving, which doesn’t really address the title of the video. I get it, I get what you’re doing, but if you want to bring value instead of playing the formulas and algo, do more than this.

I own a small A/C shop compressor. It's very loud and very heavy. Over the years, I've used it less and less. For blowing water out of the water pipes out to my balcony, I now use a hand-held, battery powered Makita 18V blower. It's WAY less noisy, and it weighs maybe 2 pounds vs 50 pounds. I own an impact driver that I use to drive screws when doing framing carpentry. I bought a Milwaukee 12V fluid-drive impact vs a standard impact. It's probably at least 15dB quieter than a Milwaukee 18V impact. For a shop vac, it's hard to find one that is both powerful and also quiet. I've seen some makers create carts with enclosed spaces for their shop vac. I have a small Milwaukee 18V battery-powered shop vac. I know that if built a cabinet out of plywood and lined it with rigid foam boards or mineral wool insulation, it would probably cut 20dB from the noise of my shop vac. I currently own a house, and I can make some noise in my garage when I'm building something, but if I lived in an apartment, I'd consider enclosing my shop vac in a sound-dampening box.

It's great that you are considering how your actions can negatively affect your neighbors. Have you considered making sound-insulating panels to mount to the walls, ceiling, and garage door? They won't make the space entirely silent, but it could help.

At 18:30 isn't your saddle bag touching the wheel?
@elenamakes6 күн бұрын
Nope! It sits a couple inches above the wheel. Although I can’t use the dropper post when that bag is attached because then it definitely would touch the wheel.
