Fun to see one that shows the back of the medal, and not just the shiny image. I grew up in the far north of Norway, and have driven the length of the country many times. The cod that hangs on the racks was fished out in the sea, and was (and is) an important source of income for Norway. Being from the north, I am used to eating dried fish, and although the smell can be unpleasant, many of us love dry fish that has been pounded until it flakes. We eat it with good butter and beer. Dried fish has a long shelf life, and can be transported over long distances without being spoiled. Dried fish heads are still exported to Africa. Those who cannot afford fish or meat buy the heads and boil them for the broth. There is still a lot of flavor and nutrition in the heads. The farm fish facilities usually contain farmed salmon, sometimes trout. I would much rather have dried fish than that salmon. Salmon farming is not good for life in the fjords, but as always, the money is most important. It can also be mentioned that even though ordinary people were poor in Norway, as most other places, Norway as a nation was not very poor before we found the oil. The rivers and fjords made it possible to transport timber from the Norwegian forests to the sea long before the railways offered the same opportunities in other countries. Early on, Norway was an important maritime nation with a large foreign fleet, and when people learned to tame the rivers by putting them in pipes, farsighted politicians made sure to get foreign investors to develop hydroelectric plants, with the right of recourse for the Norwegian state 60-70 years after construction. In that way, they secured the rights to the rivers for the Norwegian people. This was an important experience when the oil was found, and the income from the oil was secured for the Norwegian people, and not, as in so many other places, that foreign investors in collaboration with corrupt politicians ran away with the profits. At that time the politicians still worked for the people of the country. The same cannot be said today. I recommend the video "Why Norway is Becoming the World's Richest Country" on the RealLifeLore channel. It is very well made, and gives a good insight in both history and present time.

For me it was the first time to see the hanging dry fish and it had an impact mainly because I scuba dive and love to see them in that environment. Don’t get me wrong , I also eat fish and all that. And totally respect the tradition and process. Farming is just awful.. and sad. Thank you very much for your input!

@@AnthonyMortal I'm not offended, because I understand that it can be a sad sight. I just want to give a broader perspective. You are probably aware that the human body consists of a very large proportion of water, and fish probably even more. It is not beautiful when it is dried, but in a country far to the north that only consists of 3% of agricultural land, you are forced to make use of the resources you have. Thank you for posting.

Houses in Norway that fall into disrepair in this way are often listed buildings that stand in the way of the owners' ambitions with the property. No one can be forced to maintain private property, so when they don't get permission to demolish the building, they let it fall into disrepair. Within a few decades, there is nothing left to protect, and demolition is ordered because the house is a dangerous place to stay. Fortunately, there are many others who have an interest in preserving listed buildings. I live in a 224-year-old log house. When we sawed out a wall that had to be removed, the timber still smelled of resin.

Indeed, N. Ceausescu was the CEO of the Romanian branch of the franchise called communism. His faith was sealed when the mother company, located in the USSR fell, due to bankruptcy induced by Saudi Arabia's selling of cheap oil. Many people still see the revolution of 89 as a coup d'état, perpetuated by his cronies (secret police = securitate) in order to delete any proof of their actions.

The deal in Roșia Montană was for the gold and silver extraction, and the sterile, which actually contain rare minerals ten times more expensive than the gol and silver, to be procese in Canada or another country. The tehnologie used suppose to use cyanide and the incomes to Romania except a few procent from the gold and silver after grinding few mountains should be around 4 billion dollars which is 10%of the taxes avoidance each year in Romania.

UC Sampdoria & Genoa CFC: a little class about the shared history between the two clubs: Genoa was founded by English men as a cricket and football club which was designed for the exclusive participation of English members, not genovese or even Italian. Genoa won 9 scudetti when the league was not Serie A as we know it: just as an example, the first season in 1898 was a tournament that only had 4 teams participating and the league was literally 3 matches long. Sampdoria is a fully Genovese club founded after the unification of two Genovese clubs in 1946. Sampdoria won 16 city derbies more than Genoa, has a better aggregate score in Serie A history, arrived above Genoa in the league 64 times over 77 seasons together, has more appearances in European competitions including a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and a Champions League final, had more internationally influential players, more balloon d'Or winners and more world cup winners. Since Sampdoria's birth in 1946, Sampdoria won 7 trophies, Genoa won 0. Last Genoa trophy is a Coppa Italia won in 1937. Genoa played 34 seasons in Serie B and was relegated twice to Serie C third division, Sampdoria played 11 seasons in Serie B and no participation to Serie C.
