Genova, besides being a centuries long naval power, the birthplace of personalities like Nicolo Paganini and that other guy who was searching for alternate ways to India, gave also birth to Il Calcio!
In 1893 a group of English noblemen living in Genova founded Genoa Cricket club which 4 years later became Genoa Cricket & Football club. And the rest is history. We have the honor in this video to watch the oldest club in Italy live in one of the worlds most beautiful stadiums and enjoy it's spectacular atmosphere! The same stadium that almost 30 years ago witnessed the tragic consequences of football hooliganism when a young Genoa supporter tragically lost his life.
Genova is also the birthplace of possibly the youngest of Italy's most popular clubs, Sampdoria! We get the chance to chat with one of the Ultras of Sampdoria and also experience first hand the Banter side between the fans of these 2 teams.

ho avuto il piacere, la fortuna e l'onore di giocare nelle giovanili della Samp una 15a di anni fa. Genova in se come cittá la odi o la ami, e non esprimo il mio giudizio su questo...ma il derby signori, a mani basse il piú bel derby d'Italia e uno dei primi al mondo! Ció che lo rende unico, é tutto un insieme di cose, la cutlura calcistica, l'atmosfera, l'aria che si respira per le strade...la citta traspira calcio, bandiere e stricioni ovunque...e lo stadio eeeeh beh!!!! UC Sampdoria & Genoa CFC: a little class about the shared history between the two clubs: Genoa was founded by English men as a cricket and football club which was designed for the exclusive participation of English members, not genovese or even Italian. Genoa won 9 scudetti when the league was not Serie A as we know it: just as an example, the first season in 1898 was a tournament that only had 4 teams participating and the league was literally 3 matches long. Sampdoria is a fully Genovese club founded after the unification of two Genovese clubs in 1946. Sampdoria won 16 city derbies more than Genoa, has a better aggregate score in Serie A history, arrived above Genoa in the league 64 times over 77 seasons together, has more appearances in European competitions including a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and a Champions League final, had more internationally influential players, more balloon d'Or winners and more world cup winners. Since Sampdoria's birth in 1946, Sampdoria won 7 trophies, Genoa won 0. Last Genoa trophy is a Coppa Italia won in 1937. Genoa played 34 seasons in Serie B and was relegated twice to Serie C third division, Sampdoria played 11 seasons in Serie B and no participation to Serie C.

Just so you know, before genoa was sold to the new owners their stadium was always half empty for many years. Sampdoria instead have the highest average attendance in serie b this year.

I hate genoa with all my heart but i have to say that their fans are easily in the top 3 best in serie A. But let’s be honest how can they be proud of their titles when even my grandfather couldn’t see one of them… 😂 FORZA SAMP!!!
