Of course it's gambling. But gambling can be done more skillfully and thus more profitably by people better at it. There are many other areas of life that are ultimately just gambling i.e. stockbroking. But just like in poker the more skillful tend make the most money. Its not an absolute science as many talented players must have very bad luck early in their playing careers and get discouraged rather than ride out the variance. And equally many top players got there from a run of good cards combined with their skill at just the time they needed it to break through. And couldn't it be said that managing our lives everyday is a game of luck that requires skill? We can't control the hand we were dealt and all the things that come at us and we have to deal with what comes along the best we can.

He called because of pot odds thinking his flush is good if it hits. 1 out of 4 chance a heart hits and hes getting 4/1 plus a jack gives a straight. Odds were in Daniels favor. I dont think he thought he was good.

Call was based on how much of his stack it cost. Not sure how much Daniel had but I would guess he called with 1/6th of his stack, meaning calling wouldn't hurt him much if he lost.
