    unless you are getting the film developed AND PRINTED with traditional chemistry and NOT getting the film developed and the SCANNED, you are not getting the true film properties. The look of the photos are limited to the quality of the scan. The SCAN is "rephotographing" the film into a positive photo digital file and you are limited to the quality of the scanner.

    I schoot expired and fresh film but it has been refridged all this time. And I schoot it in bright sunlight. I do not know why film photographers do not use flash indoors. Those indoor schotts would have been at least better if you put a flash on the camera. It seems like it is a disease or some kind of phobia to many film photographers.

    The two expired rolls I shot came out like poop :x One in a crappy Diana+, that came with some film from the previous owner, they basically came out blank, 15 years expired, And I bought quite a bit of expired 110 film, 40 years expired (it was very cheap, and I thought I'll give it a shot) and that also came out blank... Might try to do some funky stuff with the latter, still have a couple, but yeah, so far not so great

  • @SeanJorgensen

    ah that sucks! I personally am not a fan of the Diana + however my first first rolls of expired like 8 years ago came out blank too. So i know your pain. I wonder if the previous person kept them stored or not, that might be a huge factor if they come out blank. also 40 year old film sounds so exciting hahaha.

Another thing i do is to diy redscale old films that i dont feel like shooting normally and shoot open by two stops and pull in developing.

    Why? Why don't you get that light meter fixed? Why don't you use nice AF SLRs like a Canon EOS 3 or Elan 7 or whatever the Nikon equivalent would be? Why don't you get an external light meter? Sounds to me like your broken camera and the difficulties to quickly focus manually results in worse photos for your clients. Are you convinced, shooting with broken gear will improve your abilities so much that after all, the photos will still be better? Do you clients know? Don't they care? Or is this an ironic video, a prody, and I just didn't get it?

  • @SeanJorgensen
    @SeanJorgensen15 күн бұрын

    I do have light meters that work in cameras, I was giving one example of one that off so I need to make adjustments accordingly. My work speaks for itself, sorry you happen to disagree.

  • @OriginalTLab3000
    @OriginalTLab300015 күн бұрын

    @@SeanJorgensen Oh, no, no need to be sorry! I don't know your work and I've only seen this video, so I could neither agree nor disagree with your work. Although some of the photos you've shown are IMHO bad, but they were examples of what happens when you can't focus quickly enough. In the end, the customer desides. I guess, my problem would be - if I worked like that or if I was a client - that I'd constantly ask myself "Couldn't the photos be better?" - for example with an AF camera. Looking at the photo at 4:20 for example, I'd really be mad at myself if that was mine. But I don't know whether you have 5 shots of the scene and you just took the worst one as an example. I have out of focus wedding photos, of course... just remembering a really horrible series right now, that fortunately only was shot with the stationary backup cam.... But I gave it my best and I'm okay with that, though still slightly annoyed 20 years later... If I had brought a camera that might have been defective, I woulnd' have forgiven myself. Anyway, back to the question: Obviously, it is safe to assume that you're convinced, shooting with sub par gear gives you advantages that compensate or make you even better. But let me put it the other way around: Do you think your results would get worse, if you took two Nikon F5 or F6 in perfect condition? And wouldn't that be a lot less stressful? Never having to worry that several cameras might malfunction? (You mentioned that most of your cameras have quirks.) And not having to bring 6 cameras?

  • @SeanJorgensen
    @SeanJorgensen15 күн бұрын

    @@OriginalTLab3000 My arsenal of gear is more than capable. Pentax 645, Contax T2, Canon EF, Minolta hi-matic etc. In regards to the out of focus ones, thats just the nature of the beast. Even newer fully advanced mirroless cameras miss focus at times. Also not every photo being completely perfect is part of the charm of an outdated medium. I also bring multiple cameras as I explain.... since I have multiple films in various cameras-not just for the sake of certain ones possibly malfunctioning.

    well said! if the lab processes it correctly its a great film and i personally gravitate towards a muted tonal look.

    @@SeanJorgensen yah processed three rolls at home so far and it’s been great each time. Muted colors and contrast works great, it takes you back to the 80’s, especially when you shoot in streets of NY
