    Just a few tips either paint it bone white or yellow. These plugs are fished for striped bass. Also don’t use spar urethane, instead spray it with lawyer as a finish after you paint it. Tight lines!

    Can i ask what sort of setup this is for? I'm just trying to get into fishing and i have 20lb braided and 10lb fluorocarbon for the leader. Is that sufficient for my purpose of basically just bass with maybe an occasional walleye/pike?

    My next rod I believe I will do the under wrap just for the heck of it… however I’ve since landed a 12’ hammerhead shark and all held up just fine🤷🏽‍♂️

    Great video, BUT please learn not to drag the fish in the sand, it removes protective coating from scales and also can harm the gills.

    We have a second home on Sanibel that’s an 8 mn drive to Blind Pass. Too many people fish there now. It’s not even worth going to on the weekends. It’s a shame. It used to be a great spot.

    Dude…yes, Savage Gear lures are great but they are anything but inexpensive… no matter who or where you buy them from… More than likely,.. I’m older than the both of you guys put together… Plastic baits are not new … everyone thinks it’s the newfangled bait… No, Wrong, Bad…! Freshwater bass fishermen have using plastic worms long before I was even born…! Anyway,… $10 to $20 a pop is not cheap… for a jig swim bait .. even though you get the 2+1 pack …2 tails and 1 jig head is the only way you feel you got a deal but not really… ! Back in the day … we used a white buck tail jig and an Uncle Josh’s pork rind strip … That was textbook Striper fishing and we whipped conventional beavers … not the grinders you young whipper snappers use.. thinking it’s the best thing since sliced bread…. As you know by now,.. we have multiplier reels that cast close to 400 yards .! The CapeCod Canal and Montauk is quite the place to be for Stripers but never have I seen anyone with conventional gear there.. where’s the skill in casting a spin gear and why the helm do you need a bale… really strange design of a fishing reel to say the least…! Stop telling people savage gear is inexpensive…. All lures are made are to attract you to buy them …. Truth is … it does not matter what your lure looks like or what it does… if it moves,… the fish will attack it… do the math fellas…. 👍😎🤙

    Nice work! This is the first build I've seen where the entire blank had marbling on it. Did you use thread finish for the marbling or some other product? Are you having any issues with the finish cracking? Thanks

    Great vid. The small fish at the end was a jack not a pompano. The jacks are very fun to catch and they get very big. I live here in Cape Coral next time you come bring some top water lures for some good explosive fun.

    Good looking rod for sure! I would recommend doing under wraps on your guides for such heavy duty applications. And a double wrap on your guide feet. Running 130lb braid and even bigger you want all the thread you can get holding those guides!

    Question for you. I'm new to the rod building community. Do you apply grips and reel seat anywhere. Or do you find the spine of the rod. I know you find the rods spine on smaller rods but didn't know if you had to with these bigger ones.

  • @catchingzzzsoutdoors1872
    @catchingzzzsoutdoors1872 Жыл бұрын

    Yup you’ll be able to find the spine on larger rods as well, just line the reel seat up with the spine once you find it. As far as grips and reel seat placement that will depend on arm length. Play around with it before gluing and do what feels most comfortable

    Sure, I used a few different sizes all of them were Heavy XN Alps Guides (titanium chrome). I used (1) size 20 (as my stripping guide) then (1) size 16, and (4) size 12. I also used a size 26 aluminum reel seat (alps) to fit the blank
