"I am not an artist!" Sound familiar? That is where I was just a few years ago. Then I stumbled across acrylic paint pouring while browsing Instagram and Pinterest. I couldn't believe some of the amazing artwork people were creating. When I dug a little deeper into fluid acrylic pouring, I realized that I was more than capable of doing paint pouring myself.
I am an IT nerd. I love most everything about technology. I've taken that analytic approach I use for my work and applied it to my acrylic paint pouring and I've become what I consider a successful acrylic pouring artist.
This channel is dedicated to anyone that doesn't think they are an artist; to all those that love what they see but don't believe they can create art; to any of you that are stuck and can't seem to figure this whole paint pouring thing out. Join me and lets fail, and therefore learn, together. You can do it. Let me show you how.

Thnx for mind blowing tutorial . You r wonderful teacher & M also excellent student . I am 72 yrs old lady . Very interesting time pass which would make my life really cheerful . God bless you . 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks and welcome
I keep this video for further checks, amazing information, simple well explained… thanks a lot this explain perfectly why colors combine in between…..
You're very welcome my friend.
This is a life saver!!!!
Thanks. Hope it helps.
what is crazing?
Crazing is more like tons of tiny cracks rather than big deep cracks.
I wanted to try circles (various colors over white) and let them dry but they were too wet that the circles did not hold.
Were you using a canvas or a hard board? If you want the circles to stay you want to use a hard painting surface.
@LeftBrainedArtist I was using a canvas but that I applied 2 layers of gesso to days earlier, guess that wasn't enough. Ah ok, will look into that. Thanks so much! 🙂
Might be a a silly question but you divided the 168 by 25. Where did the 25 come from?
One ounce of paint covers about 25 square inches of painting surface. So divide total surface area by 25 to approximate how much paint you need - I have a better explanation in this video - kzread.info/dash/bejne/lY6EqpSBc7yqocY.html
@LeftBrainedArtist Ohhh, thank you. Ok, will take a look at that. 🙂
Excellent information thank you very much. Haven’t started pouring yet. I like to get all the technical stuff in my head first.
Glad to help Lally.
Can you stir with a battery powered coffee stirrer? Or not a good idea.
It will make tons of little bubbles. If you don't mind tiny pinholes in your painting it isn't a problem but most people prefer not to see those.
Very good information on colour stacking thank you
My pleasure
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Johni. Glad to help.
I was so lucky to find your channel after deciding only one month ago to embark on fluid art. I know I will be able to get going sooner now rather than looking at more and more podcasts that were making me more and more confused. Once again, thank you for your generosity.
So glad to help. Thanks for watching. Let me know if you have more questions.
I am just getting into pouring, and I have really appreciated your advice. Thanks so much for your expertise and authenticity!
You are so welcome Lucas. Let me know if you have additional questions.
Love watching your videos. I have been doing this for about 3 years now and I still am having issues with what to do and how much paint to medium! Your so good at what you do! Thank you so much!
How can I help you Penny? If there are any questions you don't see answered in my video please let me know.
I tried it but I think the paint was too thick and my hairdryer was not strong.
I've been there. That is joy of learning though. let me know how the next one goes.
@@LeftBrainedArtist I will! 🙂
Consistency close ups are soooo helpful!
Thanks Emily. I'll keep doing them.
Thank you for the close up showing the thinness of the glue, I was hoping I could see it closer up and then you did a close up! I like your tutorials! Not too fast but also more importantly not too slow
You’re welcome 😊
😃👍
Thanks so much.
So glad I found your channel. I’ve been looking at lots of different podcasts but yours make a lot of common sense.
Awesome, thank you!
I'm going to do it today!!!😊
Good luck!! Let me know how it turns out Michele.
Great video thanks a lot I need this information I will save to your others videos from you….
Awesome, thank you Orlando.
Does anyone know, what those plastic sheets I keep seeing people use for swipes are?
I get them in between the larger multipack canvases.
Dear David, we failed in trying chameleon pours. Taking the consistency gauge, what would be the right consistency for this technique. We choose 3.5 form the gauge. Both swipe an flip cup did not work. Maybe the Goya Silikon Oil was the reason. But neither 4wd-lubricant worked which will be used by several artists. Looking forward to your answer! With best regards Gottfried from Austria
For chameleon you need th paint to be on the thinner side (not super thin) so you can easily break the surface tension with the silicone and allow the colors from underneath to show through. I'd mix up your paints to a 4.5 then do a quick sample with that paint (less then a teaspoon of total paint). Then if it idoesn't work, add a little water to 5 and test again. That way you are only using up a little bit of paint and you know it will work before you do the main pour.
Any advice for the mask that should be used please 😊
M90 will work in a pinch. Otherwise an organic vapor respirator similar to this would be best - amzn.to/4cy8VBC (affiate link)
Thank you for all the interesting information wonderful podcasts. You have very nice hands to look at.
Thanks so much. Glad to help.
Very good
👍
Very cool inexpensive idea! Thanks for sharing 😊
You are so welcome Michele.
Thank you so much for your information...God bless you ❤❤❤
You are so welcome
What a great lesson! Love the consistency gauge, it has shown me how easily your idea of consistency can fool you. It takes some time to get them all equally fluid, but it definitely pays off!!
So true.
One of the best oil painters of this century that I study is Mark Carder who has done many paintings that hang in the White House. His suggestion is Gloss and I agree. Four coats is waaaaaay too many. I use Gamvar - one coat if possible, no more than two. Your goal is to protect the painting while at the same time, throw the "football" to the art restoration specialist many centuries in the future who will at some time want to remove your old, brittle, yellowed varnish and put on a new coat. The more coats, the more chance that restoration artist will have to use a lot of solvent, possibly damaging your painting. Matte won't make the colors pop. And exterior light on most paintings make Satin also irrelevant. Gloss works and looks good in most lighting situations.
Interesting perspective. Thanks for the reference I'll look him up.
David, Excellent videos. I have been a engineer for decades and felt that I was no good at art work. Your explanations have motivated me to get going in acrylic pouring. Thanks, Ann
So glad to hear that. I am in love with pouring and I am still amazing I can do something artistic like this.
Thanks 😍❤️🇩🇰
Glad to help Leila.
Thanks a lot for this valuable information
My pleasure
does it then just air dry? do you spray any sort of seal?
You let it dry and cure then I put a varnish on it. Here is a video and a blog post about that - leftbrainedartist.com/how-long-do-acrylic-pours-take-to-dry/ - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZoqlqreAYb3Lprg.html
I've spent so, so, sooooo much time worrying about, touching up and finishing my sides because i have always considered them part of my artwork.... i still do, however, with a slight extra cost, i actually believe this genius will be MUCH LESS WORK than it is to do all I do to my sides.... and they would "look more professional" - which i air-quote because a part of me is sad by this, as i have come to love how in fluid art the piece drips off and the piece continues onto the sides... but i don't think everyone thinks like i do (lol, what a revelation).
If i want people to see the sides I just make the pieces bigger so you can still see the sides a bit. I agree about the sides. I actually like that they are dripped off and that they aren't perfect. Makes it much more obvious this is an individual work and not mass produced.
you may have said this before, but im still confused, will floetrol yellow colors over time?
Not at all. I actually have a video coming up about yellowing. The Flood company actually has a bunch of research on how little it yellows.
@@LeftBrainedArtist looking forward to that video! thank you so much for all your research!!! i refer to you in my notes and plans often saying "LBA even said..." i trust your take!
Is you base same consistency as your paint, don’t know why the base coat is so hard to get right, I tried a Dutch pour today and after watching you , my paint was to thin. And tried it on a small canvas. But I will keep trying.
yes. 100% the same consistency. The only techniques where the consistencies are different are the Sheleeart Blooms, the amazing art taht Sarah Taylor does, and for things like Pearl Cells.
Really, really, really appreciate your help and expertise!!!
Happy to help always Mary.
Excellent presentation. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
THANK YOU !!! YOU AND FIONA ARE MY CHANNELS I LOVE TO COME TO. !!!
My pleasure!
More testing without the silicone please just to see how it all stacks up
I may try that soon.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks!
Wow. Thank you so much
M-1 Oil-Based Extender, Treats 4- Gallons, Interior/Exterior Paint Texture Additive (Actual Net Contents: 32- This is another similar to Floetrol but very light consistency you can try ….
Interesting.
M1 es para varios usos con diferentes frascos hay uno pequeño que se hecha a un galón de US Floetrol y ayuda a eliminar los residuos solidificados… ese dice para mild o mold, algo de eso no Home Depot, en Sherwin Williams hay
I will try to found the video I see, was amazing results…if found will send tu you
Please do!
Hablo espanol tambien.
Love the 3rd and last ones. So beautiful 😊
Thank you Daisy! 😊
Do you already try “Bladter Garage Door dry silicon” the light blue spray, some people do… no need to wipe or clean…. Maybe was you who found … thanks I want to be sure work.
I haven tried garage door silicone but I've used it on my garage. it is very similar to WD-40. I assume it will give smaller cells compared to treadmill siclicone or coconut oil.
You can look for “ polychromatic mess, the video is “ how garage door lubricant is better than silicone oil…. Tested no residues like you did with the Penetrol test and varnished with no problem. It is easy to found and cheap with a elaborated formula can be a winner … one drop for onz but check the video if you want.
@@avileno50 I'll take a look. Thanks!
@@LeftBrainedArtist @PolycromaticMess is the poster
Excelente video !!!!
Thanks so much.
Excelente video, only question is if after diluted very well it’s possible to increase the size of the amount with a pouring medium that no distorsión the color like Liquitex or the minwax polycrylic or maybe the polyurethane triple tick and how much I imagine to keep a vivid color ?!!
The more you add of anything the more the color will get diluted unfortunately.
