Contrast is the key to a good Dutch Pour!

Pastel colors are pretty easy to make yourself. It just takes a little bit of color theory and a bit of practice.
Use code " LBA10 " and save 10% on your next Lolivefe order.
For this acrylic pour I started red, blue, and yellow. I added a tinsy bit of the complimentary colors from each (red -- green, blue -- orange, yellow -- purple) to dull the color and then I added white to lighted the value.
From there mix them like a normal acrylic pour. For this dutch pour I used 1 part paint to 2 parts pouring medium (American Floetrol) and then added water to a very thin consistency.
I used a dark blue - Payne's Gray like color as my base so the white heavy pastel colors would really pop off canvas.

    Lovin' how this turned out. And the base color really shows it off so beautifully! Perfect colors for Spring too. I musta' missed something ~ why wouldn't just adding white to the colors to turn them pastel work?

  • @LeftBrainedArtist

    @LeftBrainedArtist

    Жыл бұрын

    Technically pastel colors are not full saturdation colors which you'd get with just adding white. At least when adding white to a base color. They are more muted versions of the color. If you have a color wheel the pastels are not the outer layer but the next two layers for a specific color. But there are a lot of full saturation colors that get lumped in with pastels.

    A beautiful mix of colours. I always have problems with yellow as the base colour (the one you buy, irrespective of brand) is usually transparent or semi. Do you find that by making it a pastel colour by mixing with white (a strong base) you would reduce the transparency of it? I am interested in your views in this. Thankyou for a wonderful but of art 🎭🎨😊

  • @LeftBrainedArtist

    @LeftBrainedArtist

    Adding an opaque white definitely makes the yellow way more opaque. Even a little bit of white can make the yellow semi-opaque vs the original transparent or semi-transprent.

  • @LeftBrainedArtist

    @LeftBrainedArtist

    Жыл бұрын

    This one is a Level 2 Artist Loft canvas from Michael (US Hobby Store). The roughness can absolutely matter, however when you apply a wet base coat like I did here it isn't really a problem. Most of the canvases you purchase that are pre-gessoed (white) won't be a problem at all.
