The baseball cap on backwards was a distraction to me as my mind started wandering, thinking; "what if he sticks with the backwards cap for the cheap boards, then sports a fedora for the mid range boards then gets a beret for the premium boards?"

It is not self sealing, so it will rot the just same , the tape holds the moisture in, but on that note no one knows the result advance 10 yrs to see

I watched a few of your videos and want to say thank you for the great informative content. We are getting ready to add a deck and are curious if you would recommend Deckorators Voyage or VekaDeck. We have a Great Pyrenees, so we have minor concerns about scratches from her paws. Thanks!

My installers are having trouble with the railing installation. They have to pre-drill through multiple layers of metal. Also, for the bottom of the stairs, one of the four attachment points has nothing to screw into. They plan to simply screw a sheet of metal between the two long sides of the stair tray and screw into that. Is this what you do? Are there installation instructions from Fortress about these issues? Thanks

These clips sure hold great fastened around the joist. However, that benefit makes it near impossible to ever remove a single board since these clips won't slide when loosened like the trex or others will.

From the US here, in north central Ohio. Nice video guys. We are trying to figure out how to build a new deck. Debating on composite vs wood. We had wood and tore it out for a water repair. It was in bed shape anyway. My number one concern is how slippery the composite may be when wet or slippery from cold in winter. I love the new composite colors in enhanced naturals. Foggy Warf or Rocky Harbor. But the wood was constantly needing updates, cleaning, etc. It would get green film and slippery. I had fallen on the stairs and broke my ankle a year ago in January. Bad break. So you see my dilemma and concern. Is there any composite with a non or less slippery surface? Thanks for all the information.

On the outer banks of North Carolina we have harsh salt air & high humidity (along with hurricanes of course…). We presently have a wooden deck, railing, & stairs, about 17 years aged. We are looking into replacing the decking and stairs landings plus all of our railing. We plan to use the existing underneath wood boarding (2x10 or 2x12 pressure treated). We want to go with the lightest color for both the decking & railing. We live in the standard beach box style house with the main house elevated on 8x8 wood stanchions. We have Nags Head Hammocks composite furniture on our deck (2 rockers, 2 Adirondack chairs, 2 captains chairs, and 2 side tables.our decks catch a LOT of direct sunlight and can get quite hot to stand on during our summer season here. We have 2 French Bulldogs who hang out on the deck with us. We want a decking that is not blistering hot to walk or stand on while out on the deck. What advice could you give us on direction here? Thanx in advance!

  • @MichaelJ674

Best video I’ve ever seen on this complex subject. Have you checked out Millboard mineral based composite decking. All the advantages of Deckorators Voyage but even more realistic wood look and even better color choices in my opinion. Based in the UK, they use a cap material that is a vegetable oil-based biopolymer (no petroleum-based products) that is cast using real English oak boards and then hand colored so it’s virtually indistinguishable from real wood when installed. Also, no need for hidden fasteners as the polymer cap is self-healing so it closes back over the top of face-driven deck screws when countersunk below the surface per Millboard installation instructions. You can’t believe it until you see for yourself. Makes it SOOOO easy to install. I believe Millboard is even a little more expensive than Deckorators Voyage, so it’s at the very top of the premium price range. It’s been in use for over a decade in the UK and Australia and has an excellent track record from what I’ve been able to gather. As with Deckorators, Millboard provides free samples so you can see the product for yourself. If you’re looking for the best available decking option regardless of price, Millboard is it in my opinion. It’s what I’ll be installing on my new house.

Deckorators enables a higher mark-up to the customer. That's why contractors like it. TimberTech is a better product but more expensive which means a lower profit for the contractor.

That was an awful review. I expect more technical talk from you two. I'm skeptical and nothing you said helped. For example, 90% of the joist is still exposed except for the top edge. The top edge gets the tape, but it's still riddled with holes from fasteners. Does the tape self-seal around a screw/nail? Does the adhesion of the tape last 20 years? Really? Tape that doesn't unstick "forever"? 104 degrees, -15 degrees, snow/ice, mildew, etc. Awful review. Any pro trying to get the scoop got nothing here. Please try again, you guys are usually better. Thanks.
