I prefer to buy from the small local guys when I can even if it cost a little more. But I just finished a 14’ x 60’ deck on Cape Cod with pt framing & timber tech coastline decking. Along with timber tech 5.5” posts and their drink railing. I got 6 quotes on the materials using the same list for all 6 vendors. 5 of the vendors were small local lumber yards. The 6th was Home Depot. Big orange was the cheapest. The small local yards wanted between 3 -10 k more for the exact same items.

Strange. Must depend on he area. In our area. Local guys are the same if not cheaper than the box stores.
