    Let it cool a little and only use hot water or it will crack.

    @@Passionforfoodrecipes Yea it's more likely to crack over a fire and being abused with dropping or straight to cold. Still the most durable damn pan you can buy is cast iron. No disrespect I like the content and subbed bud.

    Great way to crack your cast iron. And set the fire alarm off.

    Maybe if the alarm is right over the stove! Not a GREAT way to crack a pan though, considering I've never seen it happen in 40 years of cooking.

    Reminds me of making challah and apple fritters. Fritters tend to have that crispy outside but gooey, jelly, underdone-like doughy inside.

    Avoid all the downsides of this method by just heating 1 new Tbsp of oil instead. Then same thing: Get almost smoking hot. Scrape easily with straight edge turner. Wipe clean with clean drops of oil. Done.

    What was it they said on Futurama, TECHNICALLY correct, the best kind of correct! Indeed if we go on the hard definition it would need to be made out of crayfish, as that is literally what the word means in French.

    Doesn't this also negatively affect the seasoning? And does this work for carbon steel?

  • @Passionforfoodrecipes
    @Passionforfoodrecipes7 күн бұрын

    Sometimes it can affect the seasoning, but if stuff is stuck enough to do this scrubbing would likely do the same thing It works with carbon steel as well but the thinner the pan the higher the chances of it warping if the temperature difference is too high

  • @H4KnSL4K
    @H4KnSL4K6 күн бұрын

    @@Passionforfoodrecipes Thanks for the details. I find water really helps, but I don't hear the pan too hot, and I use a little bit of boiling water. After that I quickly scrub it with some salt, before it gets a chance to dry and harden again

    Don't you run the risk of cracking it?

  • @Passionforfoodrecipes
    @Passionforfoodrecipes7 күн бұрын

    There is a small risk of that, mostly if there is a flaw in the pan OR you heat it too much and then pour cold water on it. Always use water as hot as you can get it! So far I've never had a problem. But you can easily warp a thin non stick aluminum pan this way, so only use this trick with cast iron or good stainless steel

    How do i know the difference between seasoning* and just old food?

  • @Passionforfoodrecipes
    @Passionforfoodrecipes11 күн бұрын

    If your "seasoning" is coming off in hot water it was probably time to reseason anyway!

    @@Passionforfoodrecipes one question I've spent a good amount of time is on this- how do I know if I'm not just accidentally eating rust? Haha. Sounds silly, but if I use the stainless steel scraper and use some soap occasionally. If it dries it looks a little orange. But what I have done is place some oil on the heated pan and coat it and let it sit right after I rinse it clean. So it's not seasoned in the sense of baking the oil into the pan, but it's doesn't look bad with the oil layer.

  • @Passionforfoodrecipes
    @Passionforfoodrecipes8 күн бұрын

    @@jacobmarsh9022 yeah that orange you see is iron oxide, I do that too most of the time especially if I use soap. Just lightly oil and wipe off the pan after I dry it to prevent any rusting!

    The soup can be made in a slow cooker with the vegetables and garlic sauteed on the stove first. I can't have this combo without a couple of kosher pickle spears on the side. In a pinch I've doctored up pasta sauce, added chicken stock, seasonings and whole milk. Not bad at all....actually it's pretty good.
