    Hi ,beautiful painting. Just wondering do you seal it? Also how would you display it ? Can it be framed to hang on wall ? Thanks 😊

  • @island_jewel57
    @island_jewel573 жыл бұрын

    As you can see I use the little easels from Dollarama, our local dollar store in Canada. I also sell them framed. I mount with glue on Ikea Mirror frames, the 10 inch ones. They are good quality and price. Ikea recently stopped selling those, but I still have lots on hand. There may be some in thrift stores. You could also cut mdf board to your specs. I do this for other size tiles.. .. just sand edges, prime and paint with a roller.. I use No more Nails glue. Add hanging hardware on the back and it's ready to hang. For sealant I use Krylon Kamar spray. It is a must have for protecting the ink. 3 light coats will do it. You can find it in the craft section at Walmart, or in art supply stores. I also give 3 light sprays of U.V. archival varnish to protect from the sun as inks can fade over the years if they are exposed to sun.

  • @island_jewel57

    thanks Linda. I was using Ikea Malma mirrors for the last few years. The 6" square tiles mount perfectly and they are good quality and inexpensive. However I just found out Ikea is no longer selling these. I'm so sad about that. For any other size tile, like subway tile for example, I have been making my own. Home Depot cuts mdf board for you and then I use a paint roller to prime and finish in a preferred color. I use housepaint.

    I seal first with Krylon Kamar , 3 light coats. This seals and protects the ink. You can find it at Walmart usually in the craft section. Then 3 light coats of UV archival to protect from the sun. These sprays will take out some of the glossy finish, so you can add some varnish if you want shine back. I mount my tiles and sell them or at art markets and shows.

    Can you use any type of tile? Where do you buy them?

  • @island_jewel57
    @island_jewel575 жыл бұрын

    I always like to use the brightest white tile I can find. It's the white of the tile coming through that gives those inks their luminescence. If the tile is more of a dull white that will affect the colour of the ink, they will not look as intense in colour. The tile does not have to be super glossy though, it can be less shiny and work just as well. I get my Tiles at Hardware departments such as in Home Depot or Lowe's Etc. I sometimes have good luck at the Habitat ReStore, you never know what you will find there. I also keep my eyes open at garage sales. Some carpet stores will carry tiles but they can be pretty expensive there.

    @@island_jewel57 Thank you Jewel! I am hosting a girls night to try some tiles, do you think 15 bottles (variety colors) is sufficient for 6 ladies to do two-three tiles each?

  • @island_jewel57
    @island_jewel575 жыл бұрын

    That is enough ink, you shouldn't run out. I would recommend buying some Krylon Kamar spray to seal them after they cure.

    @@island_jewel57 Jewel, Thank you for your tips and fabulous videos-Girls night was amazing! Everyone had a blast and a couple of us are hooked for sure! I have one questions that came up, I bought a dauber that came with felt pad attached and refills. When I use it, it leaves fibers in the paint everywhere it touches and is difficult to remove....have you had this problem? Is there a different type of felt or other product I should use (just using what cam with it)? I love the effect it makes.

  • @island_jewel57
    @island_jewel575 жыл бұрын

    You can get a very similar textured effect by crumpling up a small wad of wax paper and dabbing with that. If you are using felt, the first thing is I don't buy the precut stuff, it is pretty expensive. I get a sheet of felt from Michaels or the dollar store. Don't get the thicker one, it does not release the ink very well. You can make daubers with a small block of wood, glue on the Velcro with No more Nails glue. Or sometimes I will find stampers cheap at garage sales. I cut off the rubber stamp and glue on the Velcro. For unwanted fuzz, once the tile is dry you can remove most of it by pulling it off with masking tape that you have wrapped around your fingers. If I forget to do this and go ahead and do the sealants, then it can usually be wiped off with a dry microfiber cloth. I hope this answers your question.

    I would expect adding the tree ink to re-activate the ink of the base coat. Had you sealed it?

  • @island_jewel57
    @island_jewel575 жыл бұрын

    If you let it dry slightly it won't spread too much or disturb the underneath color. (which I did not seal) Pitch Black which I also use , is thicker and not too likely to spread.

    thanks Kora. The inks are Adirondak (Ranger) brand. I get them at my local scrapbooking store, but they are also found at Michael's and the Ranger website. In the U.S. they are also sold at Hobby Lobby or Joann's. The link I posted is not showing the dental tools now. But if you search on Ebay, look for www.ebay.com/bhp/dental-microbrush
