Can a tooth abscess not be cured with just medicines?

To prevent the infection recurring, best to physically clean it out with root canal or extraction.

how antibiotics are typically used to treat tooth abscesses, or does it focus more on dental procedures like root canal therapy?

Both, antibiotics are used with root canal treatment and with extraction to treat tooth abscess.

Hello sir I hope your good iam from Hyderabad India age 27 male i have one pimple on right upper jaw and teeth intersection and pain is there . I fear with antibiotics is that when i took it after teeth extraction for 5 days they was pain in liver and kidney pain also for which test were done and total protein was some low and serum creatinine also some low. Right now i have bad teeth and many cavities along with gingivitis. For which dentist said cleaning and scaling. But i fear with antibiotics before tooth extraction due to infection doctor gave doxycycline and metrogyl 200 mg and due to my financial problems didn't went to him for 3 months and continued the tab for 3 months, after tooth extraction he gave Amoxicillin 350 mg and pain killer due to which i got urine problem and liver pain and now i have pimple on teeth can you guide me in this regards. If you provide email i will send my cbct and dental xray sir.

The pimple means you likely have another infection/abscess which means you will probably need root canal(s) or extraction(s). You need to see a dentist as soon as possible. I would check again with physician about liver/kidney issues as well. I hope you’re better soon.

    Does abscess always need Anti-biotics?

  • @PaulKantorDDS

Unless you’re being treated by a specialist ( oral surgeon or endodontist ) who decides you don’t need them, answer is usually yes.

@@PaulKantorDDS Thanks for the reply. Even though swelling was nearly down, Doc said should take antibiotics. I was going to cancel appointment but happy I didn't.
