Are you a toy soldier collector or a wannabe? If you are then you are invited to watch our videos. Members of the Ontario Model Soldier Society (OMSS), omss.ca, are passionate about collecting toy soldiers. This organization's international membership includes enthusiasts for collecting model soldiers throughout history--metal, resin, or plastic--primarily 54 mm in height. The OMSS's monthly meetings, one Sunday each month, are held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 110 Jutland Road, in Toronto. OMSS hosts Canada's largest toy soldier show, On Parade, each summer. On Parade 2024 will be held Saturday, June 15th, 2024, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Franklin Hormer Community Centre, in Etobicoke. On Parade features vendors of model soldiers, and related items including books, magazines, and model kits. On Parade features a diorama competition. The OMSS Ottawa Chapter has meetings both in person and on Zoom, details of which are available on the OMSS Ottawa Facebook Group.

I wish I could have been there, I am European. Canada is an awesome country.
Great viceo Mark! Sad to miss the show, so I appreciate you recording it for those of us who couldn't attend to see what we missed.
Glad you enjoyed it
Todos os 5 vídeos são exelentes. Eu apreciei muito sua coleção de soldadinhos. Muito Obrigado.😃👍
Thank you!
Robert Thompson, a member of the Ottawa chapter of the Ontario Model Soldier Society, is the gentleman that you would want to thank for these videos on Box Art.
@@OntarioModelSoldierSociety I think we should thank both of you, my friend
A great opportunity for friendship, knowledge sharing and opportunities to learn about what is happening in the hobby and some great sales/trade opportunities. Check it out!
This is a flavour of what you can expect from the monthly Zoom meetings. A great way to get your toy soldier fix if you can't attend the physical / in-person meeting in Ottawa or Toronto. Join the OMSS and access to these meetings and more are a benefit of membership.
Hi Stuart, I’m following along with your presentation. You sent me the book a few years ago. Great stories. Cheers, Darrell
cool this is right in my town
You can learn the Toronto meeting dates for the Ontario Model Soldier Society (OMSS) monthly meetings if you visit its website, omss.ca. You are welcome to come out to a meeting and check us out. The OMSS also holds monthly Zoom meetings.
Great video. Really looking forward to the On Parade show in June. I really enjoyed it the last time around.
On Parade 2024 is being held this year on Saturday, June 15th, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Franklin Horner Community Centre, 432 Horner Avenue in Etobicoke. This is a much larger venue including two gyms. You should anticipate more vendors at On Parade this year. If you have yet to attend an OMSS monthly meeting in Toronto you should come and check it out! Meeting dates can be found on the club's website, omss.ca.
Hi Mark, What a great video of the club and its activities. This presentation is a ten out of ten! Many thanks, Darrell
Receiving these generous comments from the Honourary President of OMSS and a retired Canadian Brigadier General means a lot to me.
Good overall summary of the Club. Well done Mark!
Thank you for your generous comment. The Ontario Model Soldier Society--with active groups in both Toronto and Ottawa--is successful because it has a very strong core of knowledgeable and dedicated members.
Superb.
Thank you for your very generous comment! We try and upload great content on this KZread channel. If you would like to ensure that you can see this content I would invite you to SUBSCRIBE to this KZread channel if you have not done so already.
Great collection, like the pride in England.
Thank you for your generous comments. On this channel we make every effort to upload great content. We hope that you will consider SUBSCRIBING to our channel if you have not done so already.
The 11th. Hussars are a favourite regiment of mine. Nice to see the set James has in his collection.
Sorry I missed it but thanks for the video. Maybe next year.
No worries!
Hello James, Thank you so much for your most interesting series of presentations to date. They are very educational and even after purchasing all your books I am still learning more from you with these videos. Well done Sir.

The Master!
The Ontario Model Soldier Society KZread channel is planning on uploading five separate videos onto the channel. Collectively, these five videos encompass a recent 75-minute presentation that James Opie made at an OMSS Zoom Meeting. OMSS members are able to attend monthly Zoom Meetings that feature compelling guest speakers and interesting Show and Tell vignettes by OMSS members.
Definitely Sousaphones were not used by the Parachute regiment. The only Regiment in the British army in recent years (since the 50s for example) to carry them that I know of was the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and that did not seem to last long.
Great summary. The sound effects were great. Reminded me of my battle set-ups as a kid and being told to play a little quieter.
Wonderful and informed commentary on toy soldiers from "The Master"!
As soon as I heard what he is, I knew automatically that he was British. Just instinct.
Your instinct was correct.
Fascinating presentation by a famous toy soldier authority.
Thanks for sharing Stuart!! You have an amazing collection. Looking forward to seeing you in April..
I hope you will consider inviting a friend or fellow toy soldier enthusiast to attend Stuart's presentation on Sunday, April 14th, at 12:00 noon.
Please number the interviews/postings...basic stuff!
I do not number uploads because it is not considered to be a KZread BEST PRACTICE when operating a KZread channel.
Stuart was just a gentleman to take part in the interview. A legend of telling everyone else's stories for years... so great to hear a little of his own interests.
Sadly, I'm still going to be on a course down in Virginia during Hotlead. Some days it's just a sacrifice us Warrant Officers have to make. Looking forward to getting there next year.
There is always next year!

Sign me up! Well done Juan! Remarkable...
Thank you for the generous comment.
❤
If you have to dress them up, they are dolls, not toy soldiers.
These One-Sixth figures, including their uniforms, weapons, and accessories, are incredibly accurate. A significant amount of work goes into researching the authenticity of the uniforms et cetera. Some collectors do not consider One-Sixth figures to be "toy soldiers". Different courses for different horses.
@@OntarioModelSoldierSociety I was a bit harsh. I remember my younger brother getting the original 1960's GI Joe figures and we teased the hell out of him. But, I grew up with Britains Herald and MARX, MPC, TIMMEE, Crescent, Timpo and the like. I ended up just wanting to re-build a part of my childhood collection and now... I have way too much.
Great job.
I want to thank you for your generous comment. Juan Lopez is an outstanding individual and the Ottawa chapter of OMSS is very lucky to have a member like him.
Great video. Incredible work. Attention to detail and historical accuracy - wow!!
Thanks for posting this. I had heard of Hot Lead, but I didn't know much about it. - TW

Great overview of an awesome convention. If you have any interest in well painted figures, great terrain, superb games and so much more this is the convention for you.
Thank you for your generous comments. Hotlead 2024 is going to be my very first Hotlead convention. I am looking forward to it very much! Mark
Promo>SM 😥
Thanks for this! I’ll be there. Working on my terrain for it now!
Joe, I am looking forward to seeing you in person at Hotlead 2024. I will be attending this event Friday and all day Saturday. Mark
Mark, You need something of interest in your room/background...look at the comparison of Scotts background in the interviews you have done with him and your totally grey room. It is really dull for the viewer. Not a complaint, just some advice/suggestion as you do the split screen interview style on all your materials. Perhaps... less split screen and more full screen of who or what you are covering!? Good interview with Scott!
Thank you for your comments. With respect to the split screen, how do you propose doing an interview with two people on-air using a format other than a split screen? I agree with you that I could have a more interesting background behind me during filming. That item is on my To Do List. Regards, Mark
Very nice video!!! Just, if you can do it, make your camera more stable with something, like a gimbal, and I'm sure, you are gonna blow up! Gl, I dropped a sub and a like!
Thank you for the positive comment and Subscribing. I am seriously considering buying a motorized camera slider. What are your thoughts on this type of equipment?
I have all right because i play war thunder
Thank you for the positive comment.
Hi Scott, I’m glad Mark chose this topic for discussion. As I look back on my collecting days I made some of the classic mistakes you mention during my younger days. And some during my mid to senior days when periodic impulse purchasing got the better of me. You bring up good lessons for all of us and particularly for those starting out in the hobby. Cheers, Darrell
Thanks for sharing! It is always great to have a retired Brigadier General in the Canadian Armed Forces and an avid collector share his insights on the hobby!
Cool
We plan on uploading more Shorts in the future. You might want to Subscribe to the channel so you do not miss these!
Bloody awful music; great figures! Always love seeing K&C stuff in action.
There are few options for a KZread creator when it comes to obtaining music that can be used in a KZread video. KZread creators who are not careful when using music face a copyright strike and 3 strikes and your KZread channel is deleted.
@OntarioModelSoldierSociety So I've heard. Keep the videos coming, regardless!
Panzerfaust
Good choice.
Okay. This is pretty awesome! Keep posting more, man.
That's the plan!
@@OntarioModelSoldierSociety Oh man. You have no idea how happy I am to hear that.

Sherman’s we’re shitty tanks the only benefit was that they were easy to produce.
Not at all, Shermans were good, reliable vehicles, they were incredibly easy to maintain, most models featured a gun stablizer, and they were used in almost every role imaginable. The armor was perfectly serviceable, and the low velocity 75mm gun was fairly good at dealing with most armored threats, as well as infantry and soft-skinned vehicles. The use of 105mm howitzers and the introduction of the high velocity 76mm gun only further added to the lethality and utility of the Sherman.
You sir are factual wrong Sherman’s we’re all round balanced tanks
They weren't exactly shitty, they were just not the best because the game was numbers. Soviet tanks were shitty tho
Were* they were easy to produce, but it was highly affective compared to a tiger, panther, king tiger, despite having so many modifications to fit different roles too. It’s not just armor and gun you should care about, you should also care about maintenance, ergonomics, and reliability.
Your comment generated a significant response. As a KZread creator I am delighted to see this level of engagement from a 30-second Short. Mark
Mines Bazooka Panzers
When you indicate Bazooka. Do you mean Panzerschreck and Panzerfaust?
Any
I've gladly dropped a lot of money in the past on battlefront models and 40K. I always considered it supporting the hobby. The price for printers and the endless options of models has made printing hard to ignore. FDM is a good place to start if interested then graduating to resin.
I completely agree. 3D printing is going to change the entire hobby in time. Companies are going to be forced to pivot with the change of technology.
FOUND THIS TO BE QUITE INTERESTING AND MOST INFORMATIVE AND WOULD BE A VERY GOOD THING FOR ALL OMSS MEMBERS TO VIEW AS 3-D PRINTING IS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE - WELL DONE.
Thank you for your very generous comments about this video. The Ontario Model Soldier Society KZread channel will be adding some additional videos on the topic of 3D printing over the coming weeks. Mark
