  I think something is missing here because it seems that we have here two names for the same thing. Per your explanation the differentiation between swage nipple & reducers is incumbent on having the fitting butt welded on one end and socket welded on the other. I think a reducing threaded nipple should certainly be called a swaged nipple instead of threaded reducer?!
