"Fuels produced from Biological sources directly from nature are termed as “BIO FUELS”. The sources of Bio Fuels are classified into 3 broad categories.
1st Generation Bio Fuels: The feed stock for making this fuel directly comes from the food products, like rice brane, wheat etc. Which creates the competition with the food production and energy production places burden on Food Grain Production. Thereby reducing the available food stock. In order to solve this problem of competition of FOOD Vs Energy, a new generation of fuels were invented i.e. 2nd generation Bio Fuels.
2nd Generation Bio Fuels: To avoid the energy production consuming food stocks, 2nd generation bio fuels were invented. This involves, residues after treatment of food products. The best example of this is residues of sugar cane after the juice is extracted. The same is used for making Ethanol
3rd Generation Bio Fuels: This is related to production of fuels from plants and algae which uses the algae and other vegetation (not related to food crop by any means) as raw material for production of fuels
