Another masterpiece, thank you Rafael. I'm glad I found you.
@@johnaldrich611 thanks a lot John! Stoked you found me haha not easy with the youtube algorithm 😆
Enjoyed as allways , superb storytelling, looking forward to the next adventure☺
@@user-wg8jd1hx3t thanks so much! 🤗
Thank you Rafael 😊 Thank you for taking us with you on the accomplishment of your amazing adventure of achieving finishing the UTMB race! Congratulations from Central Australia! All the best wishes to you and your family in the future😊🙏🏼. I am very thankful to see the trail through your eyes.😊
@@aliceulkumanu8258 thanks so much for your message and kind words!! Waw central Australia! Awesome! A country on my bucket list to visit! 🤩
Great video - thank you!
Thanks Christian!
Another amazing adventure Rafael, wonderfully narrated so we get a great sense of your journey. Well done completing such a tough race and sharing this 👍🏻
Thanks a lot David! Appreciate the kind words and stoked you enjoyed it!
As usual, excellent. I really enjoy your video logs. You are the first of-the videographers who has mentioned the possible hazards of trail running. I fell three years ago and, in the words of my French doctors, as I live in Paris, I pulverized my shoulder. It has made me paranoid about running fast.
Thanks for the support! Sorry to hear about you fall!! That mist have been horrible!! I am also paranoid of going fast! So easy to trip and hurt ourselves badly! Hope you are better and can safely hit the trails again 🙏
Once again, dream-like places and inspiring thoughts! Thank you.
Thanks! Stoked you enjoyed it! Makes it worth it! 🙌
🎉gréât atmosphère 😊
Yeah great people!!!
Rafael, top class video as always! Very well done in what looked like difficult conditions. Cheers and look forward to more 👍😃
Thanks a lot mate! 🙌
This was fun to watch. There is so much adventure in a 100k. I did the 50k. That sun rise was spectacular. I would definitely do Desert Rats again. I knew it would be exposed but I hadn't trained for anything like that and wasn't prepared. It is easy to underestimate the cost of gaps between aid stations when it's that hot. I'm doing Speedgoat in a few weeks and hopefully I'll do better contingency planning. Best of luck with your future races. I'll be at Kodiak as well.
Thanks Eric! Kudos for your 50k! 🙌 totally agree with the heat issue. Enjoy Speedgoat! Will be seeing you at Kodiak! Which distance are you doing? I will be doing the 100 miles.
@@rafaelhidalgo The 100k. One-hundred miles is still a bit too much adventure 😀 If Kodiak goes well, I may enter the WSER lottery, but otherwise will focus on CCC for 2025.
Hey Rafael - long time follower/watcher of your videos. Congrats on the race! I also ran the 100K earlier this year, def a beautiful course! If I'd had know you'd be there, I'd have try to look you up. But, looks like you were running couple hours ahead of me... What other races do you have planned? I got Quebec Mega Trail 100M next week and Transjeju 100K in Korea in Oct. Good luck and hope to see you on a trail somewhere.
Hey man! Thanks a lot! Oh waw! We were in the same race!! We must have criss crossed at some point I’m sure 🙏 i’m signed up to Kodiak 💯 miles in October. Awesome line up of races tou have there! Globe trotter, super cool! Thats the traveling is also the beauty of these adventures! Where are you based already?
Kodiac's a cool race I heard. I'm in Seattle, WA. There are lot of great races around the Pacific Northwest (WA and OR), though they tend to be smaller and local than UTMB sponsored races. Stay in touch and let me know if you ever sign up for a race around here. Maybe I'll join you!
@@therealdonquixotedelamancha awesome mate you are privileged to live in that area! For sure will let you know if i go there. Next year i have Canyons on my radar in case you are up for it 🙌
It has been years since I ran Desert Rats, it is a beautiful course but it can be very hot. Congratulations!
Thanks a lot! You gotta come back to do it again 🤗
Great to see you’re back!
Thanks Daniel! I never left 😁 it’s just a little more complicated to get onto trails in the Bahamas haha but the adventures and the pilgrimage continues 🙌
My wife and I did the shorter hike a couple months ago, and have watched a ton of Kalalau Trail hikes on KZread. This video is the best yet to encapsulate the experience and dangers of the full trail. Most videos really just show the dangers of Crawler's Ledge and then stunning scenery. This did an amazing job of showing more "mundane" but real dangers like going off the trail or simply not being able communicate or refill water. It was a great way of showing that the reward is worth the effort, but that it's not for novice hikers or children.
Thanks a lot Carl really appreciate the support and stoked you enjoyed it. Kudos to you guys for undertaking the hike! It’s definitely not an easy one 🙏
This was cool to watch, very well put together! I'm currently training for a full Ironman and I have found myself watching endurance race documentaries during my long bike rides (when I do them indoor). Having done marathons, I have never had an interest in doing anything longer than that for running, but watching these and particularly this one, is inspiring! Well done and congrats on your accomplishment!
Thanks so much Eric! So stoked you were inspired! Keep on your hero journey and continue unfolding your own myth. The higher the aim the higher the positive emotion 🙌
I am doing the race this year for the first time, your insights are very valuable!! Thanks for sharing
Awesome enjoy the ride! 🙌 its a great race!
Same here!! Looking forward to it ☺️

Thanksso much!
I am here for the snacks 😂, no all jokes aside amazing vid and what a inspiring UTMB documentary, much respect and take care 🙏🏾
Haha 😂 thanks man! Appreciate the kind words 🙏
Thank you so much for this Rafael! Probably the most inspiring and beautiful UTMB documentary so far! Cheers from the Philippines.
Thanks so much! Stoked you enjoyed it so much! 🤗
One of the best I’ve seen. You truly captured the emotions at the start of the race. Brought tears. Congratulations on your finish
Thanks so much!! Stoked you felt the emotions 🤗
Great story, Great film 🎥
Thanks!
Bro, its absolutely amazing what you did. And hats off for filming it out and sharing with us.
Thanks!! Stoked you enjoyed the ride! 🙏
This video is scarily accurate to my experience when I ran in 2023 but what an adventure
Thanks a lot!
Powerful stuff Rafael. Congratulations on so many levels, the race, the documentary, the journey - and all of the growth!!!
Thanks a lot Ben! Stoked you enjoyed! And really appreciate the support!
So if you feel like you’re lost on the trail, what do you usually do to get back? I was also afraid of getting lost. I don’t even have a smart watch.
Best is to go in prepared with navigation tools. So easy to lose orientation.Checkout my film on the Kalalau trail. I hadnt put the gpx on my watch and nearly got lost in the jungle.
Absolutely stunning movie, great job man! Keep it up. I love how you describe the inner thoughts, demons you are fighting, remembering your loved ones, perfectly put together. Definitely deserves a LOT more views.
Thanks so much for your message!! Truly touches me!! 🙏
What a great documentary and inspiration! The ultrarunning community is so humble and respectfull and i love it. Gongrats !
Thanks a lot for your kind words!
thanks thanks thanks Raphel for this vibrant video, who comes at a very important moment of my life.
Absolute respect to you fella, great story and life motivation, thanks
Thanks man! Stoked you enjoyed the ride!
Had a good 50k trail yesterday and thought to myself ''I'm feeling way too fresh being this far in!'' after the 40k mark. I have done quite a few ultras by now but that one felt really peculiar. Then it just hit me like a hammer on those last 5k and I easily lost 15 minutes and 6 ranking spots right there. I guess the lesson is: No matter how good you feel, you're not done until you've actually finished. It's easy to get excited when things are going well, and even easier to get dishearted when they aren't. Edit: That's a really cool-looking trophy for that marathon! Something different, for sure.
Kudos to you man! Great tou felt fresh for so long 🙌 keep it up’
@@rafaelhidalgo By the way: Have you ever considered triathlon? I would love to do some, but my swim is... lackluster, to say the least. Maybe it's a new high for you?
@@hustensaftvernichter3785 haha not yet i have the same issue as you. Swimming is not my forte by far and I think i would miss the adventure dimension i get in trail running (mountains, landscape etc)
@@rafaelhidalgo Well, maybe to the Xtri norseman. You get to be surrounded by landscape *and* get to be a real-life version of ''The Walking Dead'' for a week after... Win-Win?! Swimming is tough stuff to get into, for sure. I find it to be totally unforgiving compared to biking or running.
@@hustensaftvernichter3785 yup totally! Running and cycling are fine but the swim part would be tough for me to crack
Awesome films, way to go!
Thanks Tohru!!
This is the best UTMB video I have seen, I watched it in one go and you have done a great job describing how you felt throughout the race. Well done for videoing yourself when you must have been in pain and feeling exhausted. I was in Chamonix watching the finishers and I can see myself wearing yellow just before the finish arch. Well done on getting in to and finishing the UTMB and for taking and editing this great video!
Thanks a lot Phil! Stoked you saw yourself at the finish line and stoked you enjoyed the film! I definitely poured my heart into it 🤗
Crazy adventure and amazing video. Hands down the best utmb or other 100 miler documentary I've ever seen!
Thanks so much Bobby! Stoked you enjoyed it!

Thanks Davey! 🙌
Thank you Rafael for this nice video. I learnt a lot of things for my 1st UTMB next August.
Thanks for watching!
Good seeing you at the Rabbit Valley aid station at Desert RATS UTMB! -Marty
Awesome! Rabbit Valley: where the suffering began haha it was soooo hot from that point on!
Great follow up Rafael, I can really relate to the journey and feelings especially around the UTMB it does give all kind of emotions that are hard to describe. Keep it up and allwayes follow more goals😁
Thanks! For sure! Always aiming upwards 🙌
Incredible journey bro. Congrats 👊🏽
Thanks carnal!!
Great job, thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey 👏
Thanks Tom!
"Short term pain for long term gain" is pretty much the main point of what Jesus was teaching when he said "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30. Basically means, do the hard thing now, and you will find it easier in the long run. Great words to live by and to teach kids. Keep up the good, hard work man.
Amen to that. We have much more to learn than we think from biblical stories and mythology. Those people knew a lot more than we know now. Thanks for sharing, powerful verse indeed 🙏
Your comment in the end about it being more so a pilgrimage instead of a hike was very beautifully put
Thanks!
No way I’d do that in a day. It wouldn’t be worth it. I’d definitely spend the night on the beach
If i could I would have. I had a choice: Do it in a day or not at all.
Really well done and inspiring! Thankyou!
Thanks a lot!!
It's great to watch all your videos! Congratulations on completing this challenging and honorable race. I have some questions about the temperature in the race. The second night seemed much colder than the first, didn't it? Do you have any advice on thermal clothing during the race? I'm from the tropical region (Vietnam) so my cold tolerance is poor, really need some advice. Thank you
