I used a proxmox backup server, which I would now like to run as a virtual machine. I would like to mount the ZFS pool from the backup server in proxmox and use it there in the virtual backup server machine. I have mounted the ZFS pool with zfspool import command and can see it on the left in the overview. Unfortunately, I can't use it in PBS and I don't know what to do, I don't want to delete all my backups and start over.

Finally after going nowhere in forums for 3 hours spiralling about SSD IOMMU shared group issues, I was dreading that I needed to buy a separate HBA controller to pass through. But now my motherboard-controlled SSD is showing in the VM after following this procedure. Thanks!

@@tim0638 In my system I didn't have any showing with the scsi prefix, so I had to figure out what was applicable. I had an nvme (the main proxmox boot drive) and a SATA SSD (the one I wanted to pass through). In my list of drives there were a lot of entries and some looked like variations of each other so I figured it would be the one that has the ATA prefix (as opposed to SCSI) since that refers to the controller interface type of the SDD. I had lots of nvme prefix entries but that wasn't the drive I wanted. Then I had to narrow it down out of several ATA listed items (only have one drive) so I chose the one that looked most top-level such as the end of the entry was /SDA vs /SDA1 in the list because /SDA seems more like the physical drive and other numbered ones are probably partitions on /SDA physical drive. So starts with ATA and the one where the list entry ends in /SDA was what worked for me. The final ID string I had to use was something like ATA-WDC_WDS1002xxxxx_xxxxxxx_xxxxx whatever that string was before " -> " etc

@@tim0638 I think my reply 4 days ago didn't get published. Maybe KZread auto blocked it because of copying and pasting some characters it didn't like. The short answer is in my system it was an SSD I wanted to find, and since it's a SATA interface, I could narrow down the ATA prefix drives in the list. And I only had one physical drive of that type so I chose the one in the list that was a top level sounding drive, like SDA instead of SDA1 etc. Then I copied the drive string starting with ATA and it worked.

Thank you for this! Just had something on my Proxmox UEFI get messed up somehow on a HAOS VM backup, and have lost everything. Don't want that to happen again so I'm shopping for options. If I wanted to use USB storage to do the backups, do I just plug it into the USB and the Veeam interface will recognize it? Or do I need to do any other steps to mount it to the device before Veeam will see it?

Instead of sshing into the server from a cmd window to use ctrl+w, you can just use F6 in the proxmox terminal window in the browser...
