A quick troubleshoot guide: problem: Failed to create a snapshot: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation. solution: ->run as administrator Added extra option: Advanced Options “snapshot-policy” set to Required problem: Failed to enumerate Microsoft SQL Server databases: Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer not found to the database instance. - cannot backup SQL databases. This is done during backup job creation solution: ->Grant LocalSystem sysadmin rights For backups/restores to work, you need sysadmin-level rights to the SQL instance problem: [Warning-Duplicati.Library.Main.Operation.RestoreHandler-PatchingFileLocalFailed]: Failed to patch file: blah blah blah The process cannot access the file blah blah because it is being used by another process. solution: ->Disable the sql server services if you are backing up a file like that else close the service that is using the program even if that is a file explorer or add the extra option ->Added extra option: --no-local-blocks

6.35 how come and you didnt select the Restore read/write permissions. Isnt that mandatory for the files to have the same attributes as they had when they backed up? Since duplicati can be used for backing up sql databases is there a limit in how big the file is and does it have the ability to compress the size of that database? That would be mandatory for a workload like that.

Good catch, mistake on my end. I usually use this on my own personal files which will all share the same read/write permissions (Me, not read only) so I must have slipped on that!

.... to answer my own second part question, since I ve tried that, it can backup an sql database ->most importantly .mdf and .ldf files but!!! you need to add extra options during scheduling the job which is Advanced Options “snapshot-policy” set to Required Only this it can backup a file that is already been used by the sql server. Else you have tourn the sql service off and on each time, which kind of defeats the automation purpose.

Hey sorry about that. For some reason I missed the second part of the question replying from the KZread dashboard. Still getting used to the interface. Glad you found a solution!
