I'm growing lilies and other flower bulbs since 1997 and herbaceous perennials since 2004. I have two MSc degrees, one in Horticulture (2007) and one as a Plant Doctor (2010), I also have a PhD in plant virology (2021). I'm currently researching plant pests and diseases.
On this channel I'll talk about plants, pest and diseases, pest managements and other plant related things. Please keep in mind that the things I say or recommend works for me under my growing conditions, in my soil/substrate under my irrigation regime, which means that it may not work for you. Please keep the comments civilized. The videos have subtitles, you can turn them on if you do not understand what I say. You can also auto-translate the subtitles in any of the languages KZread supports.
And remember, if you don't like plants we can't be friends!

I don't sell plants
Congrats! 👍
Thank you!
Well done 🍾
Thank you!
I love your Pistachio ,Excellent !!
I love it too, I love green, white and black flowers, and also other vivid colors. I also like lilies with long pedicels. Who am I kidding, I love all lilies!
it's Rialto, and sorry but most of your OT's do not look familiar
The colors fade quickly and the virus also makes them striped
What a splendid tour of your lilies Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Madeleine! We had another heat wave, so my lilies are very early this year.
I never saw a Fangio like yours
Maybe its not Fangio. I'm at the mercy of the sellers, but also because our high UV light, it fades to pink. This is why I'm keep banging on UV light, some cultivars, especially tetras do not fade (mostly).
The original Graffity was registered as asiatic but is really a Div 8
Okay, this can be the reason it did not set seed from the lady I got it from! Noted!
Thank you for an enlightening and educational video
I try my best.
Thanks for sharing. 👍 Isn't the flower of L. pardalinum ssp wigginsii supposed to be of orange-yellow colour? This plant is party red, like many of the other ssps of L. pardalinum.
Yes, it is supposed to be, but this seed lot was open pollinated and there are reddish and yellowish flowers from this batch. The yellow form already dropped the tepals when I got to take the video.
Lily Paradise 😊
I hope so
Superb display of lilies! 👍 You have a really nice collection of cultivars.
Thank you Samuel! I've been working on it day & night.
Very comprehensive and enlightening
I'm so pleased you enjoy my videos!
Thank you for your engaging video ,I feel vindicated ,pot lilies are not meant for the garden ,they are designed for greenhouse production
They look weird in their first year, these have been planted late. In my experience lily bulbs should be planted when almonds trees are in flower. The bulbs were also smaller than normal lilies.
Thanks for taking us to such a great place
Yes, you may see these plants some time in the UK, because this grower regularly sells his plants there.
Strawberry Event is a tetraploid ,probably Purple Heart not Trogon
Yes, I've planted the 2 cultivars close, Purple Heart and Trogon, and they already had shoots and Purple Heart emerged in the Trogon side of the label, but its all good now, probably next year the shoot will grow upwards not sideways.
Never did like Minos but congratulations on having it ,excellent video
Thank you!
I am always learning something new from your comments. thank you
I've learned most of these tips and tricks through experience. Like I accidentally got herbicide drifted to lilies and they died without making a bulb.
Things look good ,nice video
Thank you! I spend a lot of time weeding and spraying this year.
MUITO LINDO AS FLORES JARDIM ESTA LINDO . ETERNO CRIADOR E MARAVILHOSO .
Muito obrigado!
Very informative.
Thank you!

thank you!
Lovely to see the lilies flowering especially Minos .
Yes, I was quite surprised how many buds this smaller bulb had! Most of the rest will have buds too.

Wow very beautiful 😍❤️ thanks for sharing ❤
You are welcome!
Nice 😍❤️
Yes, they have this very nice recurved flowers.
Very beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
Nice shot !
Thank you! It is amazing what this cultivar can endure. I'm happy that this was the first Martagon hybrid I bought for myself.
So beautiful Blessedness ❤
Yes, thank you.
I love wild flower so much thank you for sharing.
You're welcome!
💜💜
Thank you .I will now know what to look out for on my pear and apple trees
Do not forget the ornamentals, Sorbus, Spiraea and Pyracantha!
Thank you for taking us out and about to see the wild flowers
I do my best to entertain and teach
You have Larkspur as a weed ?
Actually 2 types of larkspur. Consolida regalis is widespread allover the country, and C. orientalis which is widespread on the east side of the Danube. Funny thing, that both C. orientalis and Papaver rhoeas are sold as ornamentals too, with their pink and white color morphs. There is a whole field of C. orientalis near Szolnok M44 highway which is totally blue for about 3 weeks because tens of thousands of larkspur. Drop me a mail if you want seeds.
@@janosagoston123 I didn't notice this ,yes send some seeds please
@@brianbergman1454 OK!
Ooo wow, what a beautiful and abundant meadow 🤩 thanks for sharing, I didn’t know about the wild chamomile - good reason to visit Hungary! 🤩🌿🌼
Visiting people, places or countries to see a nice flower/plant is always a good reason! If there is no reason, then make an excuse😁 You can start by visiting the Nine-arched Bridge (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine-arched_Bridge) which is located here: maps.app.goo.gl/QkXCGzHdBCnKNN7B9 You can see traditional Hungarian animals and have a horse-buggy trip in the Puszta.
@@janosagoston123nice, thank you ☺️🙏🌿
@@karinkallas You are very welcome!
It's so nice flower😊
I'm from India show beautiful flowers potting video 😊😅
Here is a potting video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fqFqw5avXcXPfbw.html This is a different lily this has to be planted in autumn for best results.
Thanks for the video. 👍 So sorry for your quince trees though! 😒 Is there any other disease whose symptoms resemble this bacterial one (i.e. fungal disease)? Friends of mine had an affected quince tree with withering leaves/twigs every year. Eventually it was cut down. Quince is rare here in Sweden, hence common knowledge in its patogenes is low. The bacterial disease that you described may not be present here(?).
Yes, Monilia linhartiana - named after a Hungarian plant pathologist György Linhart - has similar symptoms, it enters through the flowers and they abort and then travels through the vascular system, much like M.- laxa in stone fruits. M. linhartiana is very rare in Hungary.
Could have been Monilia. 🙂 The affected quince tree is gone now however. According to literature on Erwinia amylovora the disease is less common in colder climates. If it's spotted in Sweden it must be reported to agr. authorities.
@@SamuelC-qq5vb Yes, I assumed that. As far as I know the Nordic countries are in a protected zone. However bacteria has this ability to detect each other and count their numbers in a species - called quorum sensing - and they do not show symptoms before reaching a specific population size in the plant. This means that your fiends may have received a latently infected quince which started to show symptoms when the environment was suitable for symptom development.
Claude Shride is the first to flower for me as well but that is 2 weeks away
I think mine will finish flowering in 2 weeks, but there will be more lilies to come.
Interesting, if worrying, subject for lily lovers. 👍 Isn't virus in a lily a 'code red' situation, like dig up and burn up before it spreads?
If you are a breeder and/or you do starting material for mass production yes. Eventually if a lily is susceptible for virus, it will become infected. I do not mind it. Our aphid pressure is so severe, that susceptible cultivars get infected before first flowering anyways so i just enjoy the healty ones, the rest will be used for research.
Brilliant Plant shame about the pong!
Yes, it does smell, but only for 48 hours
Your martagons are about 2 weeks ahead of me ,call the scent spicy with a touch of musk ,you are a very engaged individual
They'll be flowering within a week or 2. If I don't forget I will :)
I see you have done some hybridizing
Nope, I only pollinated my Hermodactylus tuberosus, and I put the organza sack on to save the seeds. I do pollinate it every year, I just forget to collect the seeds.
Wonderful range of lilies ,they will be wonderful to see when blooming ,excellent labels
Yepp, I'm very proud of my labels, I invented them back in 2014, when the magpies collected all my aluminum stick in labels and had no clue what was what. I do hope they will look exceptional, because I have planted 500+ cultivars. What I should do is to keep weeding, but I'm only home 1 day a week.
Your martagons are further on than mine
Yes, but I'm much further south than you. My climate is more Mediterranean.
Great to see your set up .love your humour 😅
Thank you Madeleine!
Thanks for sharing. 🙂 Could you name some of the Lilium species/cultivars that you have? (When focusing on them in the videos for instance.)
Hello Samuel! I have 500+ cultivars, and a couple of species. I try to make more videos when they are in bloom, and will put the names in the subtitles, because my pronounciation might not be as good as a native speaker's.
Thanks for sharing. 🙂 A bit more info about what kind of lilies you have would be interesting.
I have cultivars from all horticultural divisions except Euro-Caucasians.
