Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) is native to Europe. It is common on roadsides and sides of fields. The flowers are favored by pollinators like wild- and honeybees, bumblebees and hover-flies. The dried inflorescence can be used as a herbal tea and has medicinal qualities. Fresh flowers can be made into a syrup. Ripe fruits are only edible after cooking and they are usually made into jam. Elderberry fruits are also favored by wildlife, for example birds, deer, etc...
